Scott Pendlebury 433+ games - Is it a possibility?

Has played 390, 16 more H&A games this year, then 23 next year. Plus finals.

If he plays on, he could break it in finals next year. Or fall short by a couple.
I feel if he plays next year he could end up on the “players that went a year too long” thread.

Certainly still going well enough to keep his spot but the end is coming fast.

This is his last year surely

Thought he was going to DIE yesterday towards the end

Congratulations to Scott Pendlebury on reaching 400 games, and amazing to hear he will play on again in 2025.

Congratulations Pendles. I saw some statistic that most kids drafted never reach 50 games, but he's about to play 400. He joins an elite club in some great company.

As of right now

13,166 VFL / AFL players.

50 games: 4,377 (33.2%)

100 games: 2,484 (18.9%)

150 games: 1,349 (10.2%)

200 games: 676 (5.1%)

250 games: 286 (2.2%)

300 games: 104 (0.8%)

350 games: 24 (0.2%)

400 games (incl Pendlebury): 6 (0.05%)

That’s of all time - modern day is a bit different with strictly limited list sizes etc.

Been an amazing player but should have retires after last years GF and what a way to go out that would have been. Unfortunately he has played one season too long so if he goes on surely its just to chase records
^ bloke that does not watch footy

Maybe take your blinkers off

As i said he has been an amazing player but clearly playing one season too many
Didn’t you have seats to his fine performance against Carlton earlier in the year? That was one of just several strong performances this year, including last weekend

Part of the deal when you get to his stage is people are waiting for the end. If you have a poor game or two then everybody is retiring you, when it could just be… a poor game or two, which happens right throughout careers.

This x 1000

The industry and fans as a whole are obsessed with youth and shiny new things when so often a player will have a form slump irrespective of age. I think the tide is starting to turn at club land though as we are seeing at lot more players reach mid 30s now.

It’s just the never ending search for content. The game is just a 24/7 content machine, that’s now really its reason for being. Everything is about taking the slightest hint of anything and turning it into the next headline, the next big issue, the next hot take.

A young player who goes poorly is shit and was a terrible draft choice

An old player who goes poorly is finished and should be retired.

Anybody in the middle is out of sorts and could be sensationally dropped, delisted, traded, being shopped around, gettable…

It’s all to do with the real game now: end-of-season list changes. Trades, drafting, retirements, delistings. That’s now the main game - the footy season is just a warm-up for it.

Cheers, to further illustrations I thought I'd re-write your figures as a cumulative %, ie players to reach at least each milestone
