2022 could legitimately have not gotten any worse, yet we still didn’t win the spoon, so technically we can still go down, positionally, anyway.

However I think 2023 we find ourselves in a better spot. The belief that we are contenders is gone; we now go into next year with our decisions toward getting back to being in a position to contend.

There will be some pain, but genuinely going to be exciting watching our young crew develop combined with an older core who ideally we keep fit.

I hope we make all the senior players do a massive preseason. No easy ride this year, and if they injure themselves so be it.
I don't see the point in playing guys underdone/unfit like last year, you either get fit and play or you break down and shouldn't have been playing in the first place.

If we somehow pull off a miracle and have a healthy fit list I could see finals on the cards.
If we let the seniors take it easy through preseason and roll up unfit and injured 16th to 18th

Prediction wooden spooners for 2023, but great to see so many youngsters picked up in draft. The rebuild has started another 7-10 older players need to go. If we get 3 or 4 guns out of all the young guys that will be a huge win.

I think realistically we will be bottom 4
Our side has a lot of exciting new talent but it's way too early for them to start pushing us up the ladder against more mature sides. Not sure where we are going to get improvement from. Nic Nat, Shuey and Yeo still on last legs running the midfield. Sheed appears to be in no man's land with his career.

Our old firm is still what we are depending on. A lot rides on Allen and Darling and the rest of the senior brigade but again our downfall is our midfield. Can't see it getting better until our fresh new talent in Culley Chesser Hewitt Gibney take over that mantle. So many questions marks. Predict around 15th/16th, anything better then we have done alright.

We could be anything really if it all comes together and our seniors are fit and firing with youth pushing us. Who knows.

I don’t know about predictions, but now that I’ve seen who we drafted this year, I just can’t wait for the season to start.

Then watch the new guys get left in the wafl or played out of position while the same old guys trot around at half pace not giving a s**t.. 🤦‍♀️😂
I reckon both Ginbey and Hewett being prized high draft picks will both get a shot at playing in their preferred positions in the AFL early on like Culley, while the others might have to bide their time. I think the club traditionally favours players picked up higher in the draft.

West Coast the only club in the bottom 4 in 2022 not to change coach and looking through the clubs above them it’s hard to pick a club not named Hawthorns who would be expected to slide

If those three (North, GWS and Essendon) improve with a new coach and West Coast continue to stagnate, the jungle drums will be beating very loudly for Simpson’s head.

It’s quite possible that the bottom 4 could all improve but still remain at the foot of the ladder. The wooden spooner might end up with 5 -6 win’s depending on how strong the Harley Reid attraction is

I think they will need to do a fair bit of work on the psychology of the playing group over the pre season. A lot will come down to that. The playing group got used to losing. Didn't seem to be particularly hurt in terms of pride when they got belted. The club hierarchy was trotting out excuses for the performances giving subtle signals to the playing group that those performances were acceptable and they were not even partially responsible for the horrible results.

So i think the loss of confidence that will have hapenned by the players in the club's system and the other players around them, which is only natural for any group of human beings after a season like that, in addition to the crossing of a red line too many times where the players gave up trying during games, and the club and coaching management deemed that acceptable at the time, will have created some really bad psychological habits in the playing group that will need to be reversed. Every time you cross a red line like that it becomes easier to cross it again the next time. And we crossed it many times in 2022.

What happens the next time we are 5 goals down during a game? Do the players keep trying and believing we can still win the game if they do try? Does their pride kick in and demand they do keep trying? Or do they switch back into 2022 mental mode and think to themselves that the game is over so lets just let it go and it doesn't really matter anyway and there is always next week?

I think the rebuilding of confidence and re - establishment of good mental habits and effort levels is more important for 2023 than any game plan related changes Simpson might attempt to implement.

I feel like a lot of people are still acting like we have GOAT JK and haven't factored in that our forward line will likely struggle without him to help kick a score.

12-14, for me.

No doubt there's going to be plenty of frustration, but it's the games where our youth and next generation show some signs in some wins which will really get me excited.

Hopefully we can start flat tracking the shit teams again. I miss Dwayne saying "it's party time.."

At the risk of trotting out of cliches, this year should be one of low expectations for this reason alone.

Allen will be coming off a year out of the game and joins Darling in a full time role. Darling himself assumes the #1 mantle (though his role shouldn't really change - challenge Allen/Waterman to step into JK's shoes). Our rucks are still developing. Our midfield will transitition as the season goes on.

I would expect more competitveness and attacking flair but I still expect to finish in the bottom 6.
