Unofficial Preview SEASON 2025 - Best 22, Game Plan, Personnel

For mine, the most important player this off season is Edwards. If he can build his game into a Grundy type of defender, our whole focus changes. Tom can play forward. Blakey can play wherever he wants. Cox becomes an instant star …
That's not wrong. If he doesn't we're no worse off but if he does it makes a world of difference. Having what looked like poor development in the VFL team this recent season may have robbed him of some experience but let's hope not. Physically he certainly has what it takes.
If he and Melican can take the lockdown posts McCartin can play interceptor and Blakey loose man. If Cox wants a solid defence it starts to look as good if not better than Brisbane.

Poor memory from you , i never wanted Naismith in , couldn't get a mark in an exam , i said at the time

That's different to wanting Tippett out.

I went back and re read the preview thread the only change you wanted was to make sure Mcveigh didn't play :p

which was a good call really

25 to me is all about maintaining the performance of last season, which post a grand final flogging is difficult job one.

If they can do that or whenever next this side gets back to the big dance then the pressure comes, we can go undefeated all year to the grand final and we still won't prove anything until we win on the day.

I think the talent is there and potential talent is promising enough. A lot of it will be psychological and a willingness to do the hard work. Teams will bring pressure because they think we are mentally weak.

A couple of seasons ago, the Lions had what looked to be an issue when Adams went down with a long term injury. They plucked a local lad, Jackson Payne from reserves. He was unheralded but a massive unit. He has subsequently developed into a potential AA defender.

There are some similarities between Edwards and Payne. Both are big boys and are products of the respective academies. Here's hoping Edwards can follow Payne's trajectory.

I hope Dean Cox can make the midfield work and that he has the same belief in Callum Mills that I do.

I really believe that Heeney, Rowbottom and Mills could be the most well-balanced midfield in the comp if all three fire.

Like imagine this team with a midfield that could dominate a game...

We can prove quite a bit about the manner and consistency of our play. Not to mention managing the likes of Grundy and Heeney better. If we improve our starts and up our intensity I would consider that we are improving.

I asked Gemini the same question, it produced a very similar list.

After 10 attempts, telling it to take our Parker and Stephens where I also got very directive it then produced this list

FB: Tom McCartin, Dane Rampe, Nick Blakey
HB: Jake Lloyd, Harry Cunningham, Oliver Florent
C: Errol Gulden, Callum Mills, Angus Sheldrick
HF: Isaac Heeney, Will Hayward, Sam Wicks
FF: Joel Amartey, Jack Buller, Logan McDonald
R: Brodie Grundy, Chad Warner, James Rowbottom

Interchange:

  • Braeden Campbell
  • Justin McInerney
  • Hayden McLean
  • Matthew Roberts
  • Corey Warner

Personally

FB: Tom McCartin, Dane Rampe, Nick Blakey
HB:, Harry Cunningham, Lewis Melican, Riley Bice
C: Errol Gulden, Callum Mills, Justin McInerney
HF: Isaac Heeney, Will Hayward, Caiden Cleary
FF: Tom Papley, Logan McDonald, Jesse Dattoli
R: Brodie Grundy, Chad Warner, James Rowbottom,

Angus Sheldrick, Oliver Florent, Matthew Roberts, James Jordan, Joel Amartey

EMG: Campbell, Lloyd

Logan/Amartey to chop out 15-20% in the ruck.

Note: Going off the rumours of 5 on the bench

The bench/emergencies are tricky, and will know more after the rules come in whether it is 4 plus a sub or 5.

You're leaving our best performing KPD out?

For yet another half back option?
