It's a shame when the umpires detract from it (a wonderful final)

I thought both teams played brilliant footy tonight, and it was a ripping game, great atmosphere, real intensity.

But I don't think a reasonably umpired final quarter would have been 10-2 free kicks.

Just the lack of consistency, clarity and parity aggrieves me watching that live - my first AFL final too.

I don't think there's any real conspiracy, but I do think the umpires made a number of errors, and those errors, for the most part, went against Brisbane.

When normally the home team gets a slight rub.

Fages was again - ALL CLASS. Hopefully this burns hard and they go again next year. Get Rayner and Hippy back. Some great draft picks.

Well done to my boy Starc (who i co-sponsor) - played every game

Any gloating disrespectful Dogs fans that come here ***** em off. GO LIONS!

Sunday morning now so this is my considered opinion, I honestly thought we would get beaten last night going into the game, was proud of the effort our undermined side put up. Still think we got a terrible deal from the umpires.

BUT doubt we could have flown to Perth been cooped up all week and beaten a fresh Port side (they did have a few outs the night we belted them up here and are now playing better).

Next time we play for points Cam Rayner will be in the side :) Also McStay, what does concern me though is whether we can expect much from Hipwood next season, guys who follow the NBA tell me those big tall types normally take much longer to come back, and we know his injury was deemed worse than Cam's so even if he does make it back in the back half of next season it may take a while to find his feet.

Think Kiddy has been a revelation in the backline, hoping Madden and Payne become regulars there too next season, also think we need to explore the idea of Starce becoming a mid fielder, I know we will lose a lot there but perhaps Madden or even Answorth can take over that role, and I would rather have another elite mid, than an All Australian small defender.

Perhaps with Rayner back and Bailey and perhaps Starce playing more midfield Zorko can spend more time as a pressure forward?

Anyway in my opinion we haven't regressed, was satisfied with our first year of final, we beat the premiers in a qualifying final last year, the disappointment being the Prelim loss to the experienced cats.

Melbourne had the better of us this year, and you don't need me telling you we were brave but stiff last night. Hopefully some ruthless list management calls are made over the summer and we recruit well.

Dont let it screw your Sunday, I am giving our year a B rating when you consider how often we were forced to play away from home.

Have a great Sunday!

Lost by a point to a fairly half decent side and we still get our muppet supporters bagging us out. People forget the Dogs were out there to win as well, they weren’t going to just lay down and let us give them one. Both teams had their opportunities to put each other away big time. Umpires didn’t help though in a game so close.

There were umpiring decisions that affected last nights game, and as a neutral I can say with confidence the umpires clearly had an influence in the game that favoured the Doggies.
The AFL seriously needs to address these inconsistencies during the off season.

Despite the woe-is-me-end of the world wailing last night, turns out the sun rose again :)

and yet I still feel like shit.

Some thoughts;

-I was really happy with Lester and what he provided. Did some nice link up work, but didn't notice him much later on when Andrews was pushed up.
-I feel we regressed through the year with our tackling prowess. Early on it was noted we stuck tackles. We still get a lot of tackles, but in the Dogs and Melbourne matches the mid brutes were breaking ours way too easily.
-Those two complete misses at the end where we didn't even register a point burns so bad now (easy to pick and choose those moments though...)
-The Dogs changed it up and worked on the clearances and we lost that dominance which was really disappointing
-Adams was really good
-We ran out that game damn well after being a man down on our rotations for basically 3 qtrs. Losing Payne was bad, but the real loss was Berry. We would have kept him in the mid and used Lester up forward right
-Bring on 2022!

No value talking about any of the negatives from last night.

Keidan Coleman was a revelation down back! So much of our top end talent hasn’t even hit its peak yet.

Our future is bright. Let’s focus on building a better result in 2022.

The team gave their all with effort and enthusiasm, but lacking in execution which is understandable in a high pressure game. We did have home ground and crowd advantage, so well done to the Dogs for winning. The coach was good during the press conference, gave some insightful answers to some frankly ordinary questions. Can we get better in 2022. We have too.

Proud of the boys. They will learn a lot out of that loss.
Birchall played a good game, was more aggressive with his kicks.
Really happy Fullerton got that goal.
Coleman asserted himself on the game, such a mature young lad.
Please can we stop jumping into our team mates heads!!
Hoping for a Port and Dees GF.

Well what a bloody flat feeling, I was too emotional to come online last night after the game, I can never recall being so wild re umpiring, took me an hour to get to sleep, I get over it quick though all settled down now.... I haven't read over the thread but for those who watched it on the TV was the umpiring as bad as it seemed to be live, easy to get caught up in boos, hisses and a woe is me mindset live at the game.

FWIW I thought Keidean Coleman and Hugh McCluggage were huge for us, Kiddy is going to be a star, the way he moves reminds me of Simon Black.

Do you think the Bulldogs can beat Port in Adelaide, and then back up to beat (likely) Melbourne in the Grand Final? I don’t, but if they do, we’ll be talking about how we lost by 1 point to one of the greatest teams of all time. If not, their season will be forgotten - just like my team and just like your team. History only remembers the winners
The team that will win will be the team City Hall wants to win........you cant beat City Hall.

The umpiring was bad. But that game was ours to win. Too many crucial errors.
Im not sure what the sentiment is around the free kick given against big O but it was definitely there and was an absolute brain fade.

Yeah there were at least 10 free kicks against us worse than the Oscar one which at least was consistent with the Daniel deliberate.

Just watched the replay. Disgusting stuff. There have been a bunch of rigged finals, but thats the first one so rigged it was actually stolen.

As much as Id like us to avoid your lot you absolutely deserve to be there next week.
If the umpires were trying to rig the game in the dogs favour why the hell would they elect to pay deliberate on Caleb Daniel 30m from goal to give Brisbane the chance to take the lead? In what was a blatantly terrible decision? Can that be answered

Its a terrible decision as its not deliberate. But it wasnt a terrible decision as they have been paying that all year.
What are you even doing in here? Go celebrate

Yep, I put myself through the torture of watching the last 2 minutes this morning and it still looked a bit soft to me, what was so bloody annoying at the ground was that I think that was the only ruck free kick paid all night... was that right?

+ When we surged that ball forward from their winning point I thought for sure Charlie was going to burn Duryea off and win the game... ball just wouldn't bloody sit for him. The toe poke out from Duryea I've have seen similar called deliberate before as well, certainly more so than the horrendous call of deliberate against the big O for a handball out right in front of us on the Southern wing.. it was in the middle of a couple of Lions players... sheesh!

I liked the gamble and thought the upside was high, but on reflection playing Cockatoo (especially if Ah Chee was fit) was a mistake.

The coaches have a history of backing a player in to eventually come good (Ah Chee, Adams), and usually they get it right.

Hopefully Cocky can take confidence from getting on the field and playing some finals into next year and beyond

The ruck infringement was definitely soft but I believe it was there. He didnt have to do it.
The deliberate out of bounds earlier in the game against McInherney was ridiculous. Not deliberate what so ever. As you say there were two team mates there.
And these people going on about Daniels wasnt deliberate surely havent been watching football all season. I agree its a terrible interpretation but they have been called deliberate all season.

But as I say. I believe we lost that game. Everything was against us but we had our chances.
Zorkos out on a full.
But even just butchered deliveries into the 50 during the game.

I hadn't even thought of that but that is spot on, another bloody what if to mull over all off season.

Give Cocky a full preseason and watch him flourish.

Clearly these Bulldogs supporters know that they have been given a fair ride this finals series or they wouldnt be coming into another teams board just to try and justify themselves.
If we had won Id be out enjoying my life and feeling good about myself. I definitely wouldnt be on the Bulldogs board worried about what they were saying about us
