Good luck getting them in. The MPNFL clubs rejected Cranbourne citing travel. Now they’re looking at clubs further north in SFL territory? Unless it’s Frankston Dolphins or Cerberus the clubs will knock them back I reckon. The majority of the MPNFL clubs are south of Frankston and hate the travel they now have.

Cerberus would get smashed in most comps.

Mount Waverly is cooked. Sandowns a maybe.
I reckon clubs won't leave SFNL until 2021. 4 divs works along as they have even numbers

No chance of MT Wav re entering? sad to think it’s got to this after they were so dominant not long ago

Yes it is sad about mt Waverley but that have done that a couple of times it was typical of there playing group they liked to be bully’s and be dominant in the lower grades but when they had to play sides that where better they all wanted out as the proof is there most of them are at fair park in div 4 eastern now and there second on the ladder I feel for fair park because if they go up they all will leave and look for a easier option they were a shit club with shit people all they wanted to be was big fish in a small pond

Thoughts on the gap between div 3 and div 4?
Cerberus won the flag and have been getting smacked, horribly and will come straight back down.
South Yarra and Hallam came down and Yarra will make the finals and Hallam might.

Regardless of whoever wins the flag, is there any hope of being competitive in the higher division?

Not to say that the league won’t change the format (again) as Hampton Park are out

Where are HP going? As for the navy boys they would be bottom 3-4 in div4 this year whole different team from last year

Was wondering when the HP rumour was going to pop up on here.

The AFL south east bloke was interviewed on MPNFL gameface over the weekend and he said that 2 or 3 clubs had already made enquiries about joining the new MPNFL div 3, most likely in 2020. He said that clubs had recently started up that would naturally be a good geographical fit for that Comp but couldn’t join because the old structure didn’t have an entry level division to offer. He said that had now changed with divisional structure. Surely he is referring to Frankston with all that?

Unfortunately AFLSE don’t have the authority to change things in MPNFL. 75% of MPNFL clubs need to vote in favour of this happening. I doubt that will happen as they will see it as the start of push for full restructure. Saying that it will be interesting period next few years.
If Hampton Park out, where to? Def not MPNFL I’d think.

the change to divisional footy and getting a third div running has been accepted. The clubs would still have to vote new clubs in though I imagine which is a big hurdle for the likes of Cranbourne.

Here’s the interview:

Is the SFNL in abit of strife you reckon?

No idea. But SFNL is the basket case of Melbourne Metro Football - I guess you’ve got Div 1 and most of Div 2 are run very well. Then it falls away terribly. A Navy club in Div 3. 6 clubs in Div 3 because Div 4 aren’t competitive against anyone except themselves.

HP have come from SEFNL which was obviously a very well run comp and now that they have divisional football - why wouldn’t HP at least look at it?

It’s just the lack of clubs. No other Melbourne league has such strong neighbouring leagues in its region - and particularly, the outer suburban region where the population has moved.

The SFNL now has the MPNFL and AFLOE on its doorstep for clubs. All three are metro comps, don’t worry about this silly “country” labelling. They’re suburban.

If all of the South East were in one league it’d be hugely strong.

All of these are south-east suburban footy clubs. Add them to the SFNL and you have a very strong 5 division league in the south, the same as the EFL in the east.

Div1 and 2 look great. The next two are horrid. HP way too good for Div3.

SFNL, EFL, MPNFL, AFLOE are all intertwined!
Time for AFLVIC to discuss with Commissions, Leagues and clubs to try and get structures right for the long term.

That’s the league that would have been had the Sefnl clubs not walked out on the MPNFL a few years ago.

It should never have been allowed to happen.

They’ve gone about it wrong.

They’ve merged the old Peninsula and Nepean leagues into one.

They should’ve merged the Peninsula and Casey Cardinia / SEFL leagues into one, and left the old Nepean clubs (Sorrento, Rosebud, Frankston, Hastings, Red Hill, Dromana, Somerville, Devon Meadows, Pearcedale, Rye, Crib Point, Tyabb) as a stand-alone league.

Mornington and Mount Eliza could’ve chosen which they wanted to play in.

AFL Vic haven’t been able to get it right anywhere across Victoria where they’ve taken over and tried to make changes.
Very difficult to fix local problems when you have no knowledge of the local issues.
I wouldn’t hold too much hope for a great outcome in this region either.

Say what you like about the MPNFL clubs but they at least hold the future of their Comp in their own hands. They have allowed change but only change that worked for the majority of their members.

agree. Sefnl clubs thought they’d be better off alone and now you’d have to say they got that badly wrong.

I think if Berwick and Narre were to go to EFL as rumours suggest, then beacy might land in the Gippsland Comp as they have said they want.
That leaves most of that Comp happy then with the exception of Cranbourne which really should be allowed into MPNFL.

Netball would be stopping clubs like Beaconsfield and narre from going to eastern netball is a huge part of the culture in these clubs

That’s true what you say about the MPNFL clubs, I guess they just have to look after their own interests.

Though I’m actually fairly sure the EFL process is the same, ie clubs have to be voted in. At least that was how it worked when Balwyn and Heidelberg tried to join.

On that basis I’d say Berwick and Narre would be longshots to be admitted. A fairly long way out of the geographic zone (travel) and they’re both powerhouses in terms of population and one point players. Be a bit like the old turkeys voting for Christmas.
