The problem is with the lower clubs in particular the ones that dont have juniors, they are penalized with the points system when they recruit good players. How the hell are clubs to survive, they really need to review the way points are distributed in the lower grades.

Couldn’t agree more, the SFNL have absolutely butchered the points system, gone early on four divisions & are a genuine laughing stock. How can a senior men’s competition in metropolitan melbourne have 6 competing teams? Mind you it isn’t even the lowest division in the league! Teams have to face each other as much as four times -genuine shambles. Disappointing to hear no one would accept the offer to come up, especially Carrum, weren’t happy 14 months ago when they announced the split, wouldn’t back themselves when the opportunity came knocking. Another straight sets exit for those pea hearts! Onya caino

Carrum have really been a shamozzle from the start- whether it’s their grand final being called off at half time to now knocking back the chance to come up to division 3. Shocking club

any truth that dandy are struggling to fill 2 sides?

Yes sadly there is. Too many clubs in the Greater Dandenong area scrapping over a very small talent pool. The area has changed significantly and simply cannot sustain that number of clubs anymore.

Sandown and St Johns both down to one side playing Thirds/Clubbies. While i hope they can see a way out of this, after years of struggle I’m hearing the Redlegs are set to do likewise.

The two Doveton clubs have the resources to recruit externally but with no juniors this is not sustainable either. Even the once all-conquering Noble Park now rely exclusively on the cheque book. Fortunately for them they have some deep pockets whereas Sandown and Dandenong do not.

This is only going to get worse.

Most clubs from Hallam through to Moorabbin rely on being able to draw players from the new estate areas from Lyndhurst through Clyde and the back of Berwick. There’s 5+ new clubs planned for that area in the next few years which will dry up the player pool for these existing clubs.

This has been coming for 10 years and nothing done. In fact the issue has been made worse by poor planning and research when making expansion decisions.

The league and AFL Vic need to put a plan in place for football in the south east. Time to sit with all the clubs, discuss the future and help kick off some tough discussions.

The other option is to do nothing and watch them drop off one by one. That’s no way provide leadership and prevent damage to the reputation of the Comp.

Some of the discussion in other threads about culling clubs seems pretty harsh given many of the problems stem from issues far beyond the control of the clubs in the region.

Don’t know who told you that, but we won by 6 goals in the seniors and no Kirkland isn’t playing
Not what i have heard.
Kirkland or not they would want to win the flag this year with they coin they are splashing about. Looks like they would have been a good fit for div3 but took the easy way out.

Pea hearts . 👌👌😂😂 We wanted to go up I'll make that very clear to you . The SFL rejected our offer and they know the underlying truth . We were after a 4 hr meeting going to Div 3 to better ourselves . They halted that ! I'd rather be the best we can be against better opposition , than flat track bullies for half our games in a season . Anyways " Big Man Duke " you have a good 2019 and to everyone in here best of luck to your respective clubs for the season . Cheers . Chat to you all again in September when the seasons finished .

After a 4 hour meeting?! Thats your excuse for not testing yourself at a better level 🤣 not rocket science champ, you either accept the offer to come
up or take the easy way out! You don’t put an offer to the league they put it to you! Enjoy the straight sets again champ

Thanks for the well wishes bud . Have a good one 😘

Dandenong played Sandown, My mate went to watch Sandown and said that Dandenong got up by 5 goals in an very ordinary game of footy.

Any div 4 clubs looking like they’re short for ressies in 2019? Just moved back to Melbourne from Nz and would be keen to have a kick

Feel free to come down to Moorabbin, always welcoming new players down, training is 6pm Tuesday’s and Thursday’s Widdop crescent in Hampton East

Ok lads i'll have first crack

Dandenong Vs Frankston Dolphins
The Dolphins will be too strong for the Redlegs but Dandenong should put up a good show at home.
Dolphins 20pts

Hallam Vs CPL
Should be a good game of footy down at Hallam but for me it will be CPL in a close one.
Lions 5pts

Lyndhurst Vs North Balwyn/South Yarra
Another mouth watering game. Will be another close one.
Lions 12pts

Moorabbin Vs Lyndale
Playing for the Zammit cup Moorabbin will use the home ground advantage and Lyndale will be focusing more on the clubs image than the game at hand.
Kangas 30pts

Premiers- Frankston Dophins.
Spent a lot of coin this year and if we go by that the should be the most dominate side in 2019.

Frankston by 95points
cpl by 87 points
lyndhurst 37points
lyndale 23 points
