Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

:) 5 pages of joy descending into a discussion of how port intend to outwit us with the trade essentially...

Oh, the Burgoyne kid, did they just realise that he's coming to Hawthorn?

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Should convince Peter to stay off the piss and let him play for a year or two. Still has seasons left in him if he didn't hit up the pubs:)

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Port can say to Melb that the Hawks are offering a deal they're willing to accept for Burgoyne, however they would rather trade him to Melbourne for #11.

If Melbourne say they'll take him in the PSD, then we'll counter by saying we'll accept the Hawks offer for Burgoyne then.

Obviously this is not an ideal situation, but if the Hawks are telling Port they WILL play the hardball, Port can say "**** off" and just take #11.

my friend, draw out the decision tree and realise that your logic is faulty. the next step (after port tell us to eff off) is that melbourne, in the absence of a competing offer, also withdraw pick 11, knowing that SB won't be playing for port next year. then comes the PSD and the port lose SB with neither pick 9 nor pick 11.

eff the hawks becomes eff the power.

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Choco is comparing PB to Judd. Wants 1st round pick and a superstar.

Are we prepared to offer something more significant than what we did for ROK (and for Thornton). Will the deal get done? How good is pick 9? is there a good player on offer with a lesser pick? Is another team interested in a pick/player exchange?

The trade week this year promises to be frantic. Hawthorn may be like Qantas with "the odd son returning to the shore":p

As for conjecture, thats why I am a member of Bigfooty!!:thumbsu:

well if choco is thinking that, then he should be prepared to take 9, fringe player and 41. judd cost carlton 3,20 and kennedy. burgoyne aint anywhere near as good as judd. so i think 9 and a fringe will be on offer. if port say no to that they are mad. if the hawks buckle under the pressure (i hope they dont) then they could sweeten the deal with 41.

but 9 and a fringe is enough considering port have bugger all choice in the matter. if rohde says no to that, he might wanna start typing his resume.

just to clarify 100% - a player has to agree to a trade - true or false?

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

I am a little surprised at some of the opinions Hawthorn fans have on this trade. I can only put it down to the fact that you dont fully understand the ability of Shaun Burgoyne. I'll give you my thoughts as someone who has seen every game he's played.

Firstly all this injury prone talk is the biggest load of rubbish i have ever heard. He has never done a hamstring or calf and doesnt have shoulder issues. He had a knee injury in rd 3 this yr, which could have serious, but he came back in rd 17 and played the last 6 games.

He is not the hardest working player in the league, but he is not lazy. If he worked as hard as Ablett and Judd, he would be better than them in my opinion.

Shaun has played in defence and was never beaten. He played on Aker in the 04 grand final and played extremely well. (aker got a couple fo soft goals from free kicks)
He also has played full forward and kicked 5 goals in a half, im pretty sure against you guys in 2002.
In midfield and at stoppages he is magic. If he is not tagged he will run riot.
Later in his career im sure he will either go forward or back and will be able to extend his career.

This is a deal that the hawks have to get done, because Clarkson knows how good he is and how good the team will be with Shaun in it. I would think that Clarkson would have 10 players that he wouldnt trade, but the bottom 12 of your 22 could and should be tradeable.

If say Rick Ladson is your 11th best player or not a player that is crucial to your structure then he should be traded.

Are Hawthorn more likely to win a flag in the next 3 years with:

Ladson or Burgoyne?
Lewis or Burgoyne?
Franklin or Burgoyne?

Personally i would answer yes to the first 2 and obviously no to the 3rd.

You guys can not comprehend Rioli, Burgoyne and Franklin in the one side.
It will be the closest thing to the Harlem globetrotters we have seen.

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

True . But it wont be rohde making the call it will be choco and hes just signed for 2 years and he said hes prepared to play hard ball. He's said to shaun that its not personal but he is going to look after the PAFC

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Lloyd retires. Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn.

What an awesome day.:thumbsu:
Don't forget the bomb scare at Windy Hill to make the trifecta, three reasons why it sucks to be an Essendon supporter and not a Hawker!

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Apparently SB will nominate for the national draft with a price on his head if a deal can't be struck. :thumbsu: All part of the plan I think. :)

Re: CONFIRMED: Burgoyne nominates Hawthorn

Shaun Burgoyne will not come cheap. Williams considers him the club's best player and has the reputation for driving a hard bargain at the trade table. When Choco says he wants more than draft picks he absolutely means it. If Pelchen and others think this will be one of those trades where you wait till the final minutes and then force the other club's hand to do an under the odds deal then they are mistaken. Port will let Burgoyne walk if they think they are getting ripped off.

think burgoyne will work harder for clarkson as our coach is not someone who allows players to not bust a gut. not saying choco was either but burgoyne will be keen to impress.

i gotta ask port fans. here may be an opportunity to grab a player to replace tredrea in the form of dowler. port are not gonna get a star player. we all know it. sure - dowler has some time ahead of him before he gets to tredrea level but ports rebuilding, and he is a big forward capable of kicking goals. i cant understand why port wouldnt take this chance. im sure port have their reasons. but westhoff is not the man for KPF and who else have port got?

the hawks will likely trade him in this deal. he is hardly a fringe now. he played half the season and can play.

9 and dowler - both parties get something out of that surely

no worries. port end up with nothing. no doubt choco means he will play hard. but hang on, he said he will do whats best for port. so whats best, get something for SB, or nothing for him?

play hard port, but dont play too hard. otherwise its nil, zip, zero, nothing.

but the hawks wont screw port. a favourable deal will be done

I can understand what you are saying and Choco has obviously done this before but are you not getting even more ripped off if you are getting nothing in return?

I can't see how losing your best player for nothing is of benefit to the club. I suppose the argument is that you are not seen to be a pushover in trade talks? It's a fine line.

Hopefully it doesn't come to this and both clubs come out of this thinking they have done ok.
