Qualifying final v Hawks by Nunez
The first week of finals is always a bit of a dud, and when you’re the minor premiers you really may as well take two weeks off. That is what the Swamprats did. The Hawks were no real threat to their premiership defence, so gave them a small glimmer of hope. In the warm up contest, Sparkle was incredible. The young ruck amassed27 touches, a goal and 7 hitouts. The miss performed reasonably well, but it was the Hawks ability to lock the ball inside 50 that proved to be the difference. Harvey Manfrenjensenden was very good for the Hawks, kicking four goals.

Semi final v Wonders by Nunez
Domination. What else really needs to be said? The Rats did what they were destined to do. They destroyed the traitor known as Ant Bear and cruised through their first final in absolute style. In a masterclass captain’s call, Far Kern moved Nunez back into the midfield and he showed why be won the S27 Mobbs medal. Together with his former partner in crime philreich, the pair combined for 42 disposals, 9 tackles, a goal and Ant Bears lunch money. Up forward, SarahSmiles and Lukepakerno1 took the Wonders defenders to the cleaners and kicked 7 goals between them. Domination. Rumour has it, Ant Bear approached Far Kern following the match and asked for his old job back. When Kern offered him a custodial role without pay, Ant Bear declined stating “I’m too outside to get near the ball, let alone mess!”

Preliminary final v Demons by Nunez
Overconfidence is lethal. The reigning premiers had dominated their arch rivals and were up against a piss weak and dull Demons outfit. Sadly, the overconfidence bit the fan favourite Rats on the tail and the result was unkind. The Demons midfield dominated contested possessions (which is strange considering they’re a bunch of sleepy old codgers) and left the Rats mids chasing. To make matters worse, their delivery into the forward 50 was flawless, resulting in 9 different goal scorers. The Rats weren’t without some strong efforts. GotTheGoodes and Sparkle performed admirably, while Power Raid bobbed up with 3 snags. Back to back always seemed impossible, but if there was one positive we could take from this loss, it is this: it was a fluke.
