Re: Whaaaaaaaaaaa?

Hawks? If they made the 8 the year before my apologies.
Hawthorn yes didn't make the 8 in 06 but the thread is about making the top 4 the year after. They didn't finish in the top 4. It was Geelong, Port Adelaide, North Melbourne and Collingwood. Hawthorn came 6th behind the West Coast Eagles. Only Geelong, Port Adelaide and North Melbourne were the teams that finished outside the 8 in 06 that finished in the top 4 in 07.

I thought WCE came 3rd, Collingwood 6th???

What year are you guys talking about

Re: Whaaaaaaaaaaa?

Lions looked gold at the end of last year until the hawks stopped their run at the finals in a classic game.

A better run with injury, good group of improving youth, travis johnstone added to a very good midfield, and J. Brown up forward will see them as premiership contenders and top 4 next year IMO.

Lions are a chance unless Brown gets injured in which case they are no chance. They are probably as reliant on one player as any club.

Other than Brisbane, Saints and Freo have claims but have things to overcome. Hawks are on the up so they may make it. Might not be a club from out of the 8 this time around.

Given the age of the top 4 sides I think this might be a rare year when there is no change at all. The top 4 of Geelong, Port, North, Collingwood could very well all make it again. Geelong can't get much better but don't need to. They just need to not have a hangover. The other 3 are all on the up.

My prediction is Hawks in for Port but Port might finish first and Hawks 9th as well.

Was thinking about this thread the other day. I play in a tip the number of wins per club comp at the start of the season.

I tossed up between Stk and Lions for who would go to the top 4, went for Stk and completely ignored the Doggies. In your other theory/thread of top 8 to bottom 4, I went for Sydney with West coast staying "high" up the ladder. Got that one 100% wrong. Mind you my team seems to be considering giving the West Coast a challenge

Interesting.

Port look to have added some speed to their midfied, and if Treadrea came back and was in form they could rise up the ladder quickly. Cornes at CHb, Tredrea at CHF and the Burgoynes in the guts is a pretty good start.

The Cats could easily rise into the top 4. Plenty of improvement to come from their core group and if Ablett can replicate his late VFL form, and Hawkins provides any type of presence they will have enough scoring options. They are very even over the ground, but speed in midfield is still the biggest flaw. May see Gary jnr spending more time in their which would make a difference.

The Roos finished 5th in 2005 and then had a year this year where pretty much every player played well below previously displayed form. If they can pick up a CHF in the draft to even half cover the gaping hole at CHF then they ould be a chance as they are otherwise pretty even across the ground. A new reliance on young guys in the midfield may see an inconisistency that would see them get that high..

Can't see any of the other teams doing it.

This was probably already acknowledged at the end of last year, but good calls from the Zebra lol! :thumbsu:

Well the pattern continues. This time 2 teams from outside the 8 have made the top 4. Dogs and Saints are the two.

The other pattern was a team from the bottom four making the 8. Dogs went that one better by making the top 4.

Theory still holding water Dan. It will be interesting how many factor this in to their 2009 predictions.

So one of Richmond, Brisbane, Carlton, Essendon, Port, Freo, Eagles and Dees will be top 4 in 2009, and one of Port, Freo, Eagles and Dees will at least make the 8.

With the run of bad luck from Freo or the sudden fall of Port, one of the bottom 4 could easily make the 8. With the improvement in the Tiges and Blues, the top 4 chances are there I guess.

This thread keeps coming back for a reason.

yes i know the theory's been good so far, but its still no certainty to happen next year.

anyways i think dons, freo and port have what it takes to grab top 4 next year

yes i know the theory's been good so far, but its still no certainty to happen next year.

Nothing is a certainty bar death and taxes as they say and one year the theory will fail. Given the cyclical nature of the competition because of draft and salary cap constraints though, the theory will be proven correct more often than not.
