The juggle drums are that Stewart will be picked up with a late pick unless some other club trumps us as happened with Scott Thompson a number of years ago. Pace, improved depth in our mids and small/med defenders and a quality tall forward are high on the list of needs. If Kerr is available with our second I'd say there's a fair chance of Wells calling his name. I hope he doesn't use our first.

GHS should be given more opportunity this year now that both Caddy and Bartel are gone. Queries exist over his lack of speed at AFL level. But I think he's still a decent chance to forge an AFL career. Terrific guy with great leadership skills too. Murdoch's problems are almost the polar opposite to H-S's. Whilst H-S is a footballer but no athlete, Murdoch is an athlete trying to be a footballer. He has some good games but just lacks consistency and footy smarts. For mine, he'll always be a depth player at best.

Thanks. My mail has been GHS isnt winning enough CP and he isnt getting a lot of metres gained.

Interesting, someone on the Bulldogs board a while back mentioned our interest in Ridley. Quite a few 'Bevo' attributes

if that means does he look like the sort of player Beveridge plays then I'd agree with that. Enormous athletic ability, composed for a intensity game style, play lots of different roles and skilled then yes.

Myers for me is a mid who, if we're desperate, can be put into defence. Think he's not going to be back there too much next year.

I would personally want Begley there instead.

As for best 22, it's hard to say, but there players would be in and around the 22:

McGrath/McCluggage, Bellchambers, Parish, Watson, Stanton, Daniher, Z Merrett, Gleeson, Goddard, Francis, Zaharakis, Baguley, Fantasia, Green, Hurley, Heppell, Leuenberger, Myers, Bird, Hooker, Brown, Langford, Colyer, Laverde, Hartley, Stewart, Hocking, Howlett, Walla, McKenna

If I had to have a go at Essendons best 22 I would be thinking

B FRANCIS - HURLEY - BAGULEY
HB HOWLETT - HOOKER - DEA

C MERRETT - MYERS - STANTON
R BELLCHAMBERS - WATSON - HEPPELL

HF ZAHARAKIS - STEWART - GODDARD
F GREEN - DANIHER - TIPUNGWUTI

Int PARISH - COLYER - KELLY - FANTASIA

Would that be about right.

Personally I'd rather Brodie or Simpkin at 9 even if Logue is on the table anyway, Brodie especially. Have a feeling Hayward is the wildcard though as he would suit a direct need as well.

Obvious we need an explosive type within our 3 picks, if not 2, but at least 1. You are right though do we go best available at 9, then go for pace or do we go the other way around? Not sure.

I'd rather get SPP (if avail.) from what I have seen of him at least than Venables. I sort of like Venables but I feel even 19 would be a reach a bit.

In terms of those names, I think Dawson will make it, Jones will make it (move to the midfield would help), Foote is another that you have missed, and I have high regard for Leondardis. Rose I feel is tough, especially with Papley being better. Can't see Cunningham making it, he panics a bit too much, and it's very hard to coach that out of a player. Robinson is okay but won't me more than that I feel.

Interesting you mentioned Venables - I mentioned in another post I thought venables reminded me of Parker a lot. Chance he would still be there at #19 so Brodie and Venables would be a great combo to get. Dont forget Venables can also be that forward Hayward could be.

Thanks for the above. I've also felt (and I stand corrected0 Cunningham goes missing or makes some poor decisions in big games. Is that fair?

Hm. I currently have:

Hooker - Hartley - Baguley
Goddard - Hurley - Gleeson
Merrett - Watson - Zaharakis
Colyer - Daniher - Fantasia
Walla - Stewart - Bellchambers
Leuenberger - Myers - Heppell
Laverde - Parish - Langford - Francis

With McGrath, Stanton, Brown, Bird, Hocking, Howlett, McKenna all very unlucky.

Be interested in your view on where Crozier, Sheridan, Langdon and Weller are at.

Crozier and Weller both look more comfortable off half back with the ball coming at them.
Both quick, and good disposers they could benefit from having Pearce, Hamling Collins as a more stable unit, and perhaps Spurr as the lockdown.

Sheridan may have saved his career with the "run with roles" he performed, as I see him as the most at risk with Brad Hill and a fit Bennell coming in.

I really like Langdon and his gut running is a real asset. Unfortunately, same as Sheridan, he has the Hill brothers and Bennell in front of him. Personally, he'd be playing in front of Danyle Pearce every week
If we're not playing a tagger, I'd have him in front of Sheridan too, but that's a personal thing...not many would agree with me.

Crozier struggled to get a spot up forward, never settled. Lyons has throw him back with great results. In a few games he lead our metres gained. Needs to intercept more, but not all his faults due to lack of midfielder pressure.

Sheridan has been used as a half back, winger and run with. His run and effort is first class but his skills and decision making lets him down. Will be make it or break it year. Only chance for him to play will be as a run with.

Langdon defensive effort is very good and his running ability is excellent. Long kicking is good but needs to hit a few more shorter targets by foot and hand. The biggest issue with him, what is his best role. Outside we have the Hills and inside we have Fyfe,Neale,Mundy with Bennell as a compo mid. May struggle to find a role.

Weller has been played as a high forward with good results. Love his skills, tackling and running ability. The biggest issue for Freo has been getting the ball out of defensive. So many turnovers in the backs was the main reason we fell so badly. In the last couple of games Lyons throw Weller back. For me, Weller will be a big part of the solution with ability to hit targets and provide run and carry from the back half.

Certainly he hasn't been able to transfer his CP from VFL to AFL level at this stage but the thought from a lot of Cats fans is that he's been given a pretty raw deal compared to some (ie. Blicavs). He comes in, plays an average game, and then is turfed out. He really hasn't been given a run of half a dozen games or more to find his feet. Hopefully for his sake, he gets that opportunity in 2017.

Don't mind Venables actually. Have others I prefer but he should be in the mix. I'm a big believer in best available and only when 2-3 are similar do you needs pick. When you reach you run massive risks.

Cunningham for me is someone who needs consistent games, he will get better after playing a block. That said, I have some concerns, and he is a bit soft at times.

No Stanton....is that bc of the year out?

Was a bit surprised he stayed to be honest

I'd rather get games into Langford/Laverde/Francis. Though he probably does play due to his tank.

Excellent Snoop.

Who is this Blair sized one we are taking in your rookie phantom draft?
Sam Fowler?

Plays for Dandenong Stingrays and had a little bit of game time at the Championships. He is a really hard working two way forward that kicked 35 goals this this year from 14 or so games. I would liken him to Papley. He is a competitor, loves to do the defensive stuff but very good at finding the goals as well. Probably doesnt have the x factor upside of others (Ryan, Stengle etc). Played a bit in the midfield late in the season and was pretty impressive as well.

Love your work.

Many thanks

Snoop. Love your work mate. Any chance you could let us know where you rank the players? Like KM's power rankings?
