2013 - Round 1 - Friday Night - AAMI Stadium
Port Adelaide v Collingwood
John McCarthy Medal for BOG.

I passed on the idea to a few of the AFL journos on twitter. Also to the Port Adelaide & Collingwood twitter pages and finally to the Official AFL twitter page.

Hopefully it gets spread around the AFL community very quickly so it can happen!

We have the Port board account that we use for player sponsors. We'll work out what to do and then release details of the account

I will be glad to donate as well if you don't mind when you get it up and running?

I am growing a beard for the rest of 2012.

I can't grow facial hair for shit, but 3 months should be enough to get something up to John's horrendous standard.

I'm halfway there, my dog destroyed my razor and because i'm a lazy **** I haven't bought a new one yet. It's been closing in on 2 weeks and i'm looking pretty horrendous. I will have to shave at some point because of my field of work though, lol.

I'm pretty poor ATM but I'll help if I can.

best first year player to come from a different team?

This is different, but I like it. 'Recruit of the year' award or something. Problem is there'd probably only be a field of one or two players if that each year.

I'd be all in favour of a 'best first year player' award being named the John McCarthy medal though.

Best player under-23 award.

A local 15 year old lad has been offered a college scholarship by both Collingwood and Carlton. I wonder if an annual scholarship funded by both Collingwood and Port in JMac's name for a promising junior could fly? It could be something positive to grow out of a shitful occurance.

Ultimately a John Mccarthy game against Collingwood would be amazing and even better for the opening game of the season. First home game we should be wearing all black anyway, make an obvious visual statement. I also love the banner idea, remember how we did it at Adelaide oval? That would be fitting!

I don't agree with retiring the 35, he's not the only person to use it but I do believe that young players won't choose that number for a fairly long time anyway. TSW, is there a person in the club that was obviously close to John? Maybe the PAFC could offer the number to him so he can carry on his legacy.
