I decided to give this round a miss, couldn't find any songs I liked enough to nom and figured that most of the songs in the playlist I wouldn't like either.
I'd like to suggest an artist but I might get a day off

I thought about nomming this song but it's already been nommed a few times before so I decided against it, probably would have won.

Pretty sure this has already won.

Thought about this one I discovered some time ago.

She's from Sudan, but lives in a refugee camp in Kenya due to ongoing conflict in Sudan and South Sudan. She created this song with her brother (who she was separated from for many years and the reunited as adults).

This song is sung in the Nuer language, and is about a guy named Gatluak (apparently that's a common male name there) and she's accusing him of not answering her phone calls and basically being a jerk lol. Considering the levels of assault in South Sudan it's a huge **** you, and telling Sudanese men to do better. There's a good article about the song and about Nyaruach here:

I mean this is horrific:
"According to a 2017 survey issued by the International Rescue Committee and Global Women’s Institute, 65 percent of South Sudanese women interviewed had experienced physical or sexual violence." :(

Great and catchy song!

Sadly it's not surprising and I imagine the figures for men would be similar. It's very much a tribal society. Even after years of civil war that finally resulted in Southern Sudan gaining independence just over 10 years ago, the tribal fighting continues. Throw in flooding, rampant disease, a severe lack of medical facilities, medication shortages, and an increase in aid worker killings and the future isnt very bright. As one of the poorest countries on the planet it's hard to see much improving in the foreseeable future either.
It's no wonder there are over 2 million Southern Sudanese in foreign refugee camps.
It's one ****ed up situation.
