I dont mind the team out of who is available, and I dont think we had a lot of choice. Who else would you have selected? I'm missing Poults, but there must be a reason he's not in. I'm not sure the other new draftees are ready, or perhaps the coaches are holding them back so they can be 'drip fed' into the team over the next few weeks.

We are walking a fine line this year between playing experience and seniority, and raw kids. We cant have too many of the latter or we will be on the end of some absolute thrashings. Which does nobody's confidence any good.

We are also at that awkward stage of the year where there's no VFL (yet) so we cant use VFL form to influence selection.
I'm pleased Ollie Henry is in - he showed some good signs late last season

Young Daics might have all the talent in the world and be a creative threat off half back but can he actually defend an opponent and stop them being an avenue to goal week in week out at senior level?

Pendlebury is another whose defensive credentials remain a great unknown and it's going to be fascinating to see if the opposition look to target these inexperienced defenders in the opening rounds.

Well before we even take to the field I'll openly say I can't wait to see the likes of Madgen and Noble replaced.

Bianco, Brown, Ginnivan, Henry, Mccreery all with lots to prove as well before they're locks. Add Cox to that list albeit the other end of the scale.

When you dissect the team like that it's easy to see why we're expected to finish bottom 6.

Hopefully no injuries and Kreuger and Maynard in over the coming weeks.

BUT their team is pretty bad on paper. So we're a chance.

I’m pretty much in agreement there.

I think Henry and Ginnivan will make it so would like games into them based on what I’ve seen so far.

Madgen, Noble, McCreery, T Brown, Bianco and Cox are probably my bottom 6 and along with Henry and Ginnivan need to perform.

If you replace that bottom 5 minus Cox with Roughead, Maynard, Macrae, McInnes and Kreuger we’re much better both now and in the future.

Cox and Cameron are interchangeable based on form.

I am going to be patient. A lot of posters here pick our team based on singular talent alone. At Wednesdays training I watched and listened to a conversation between Leppa and Sidebottom on the boundary. It was Sidey asking more about 'his role and positioning'. So, one of our most experienced players is confirming where he needs to be to play his role. Young players sometimes need a season to learn new running patterns, grids and zones. There are players I would love in the team based on my expectations of their talent but maybe they get a defensive pattern wrong or are slow to positioning. So when posters here talk about game plan remember thats a huge concept and training indicates big changes for all roles. Melbourne took five years to embrace and understand the game plan while their talent developed. Macrae needs time, the players need time, and we can watch and grow with this team. This is the starting team of a new era. Let's be positive and be supportive in '22. Go Pies!!!
Agree totally. It's about developing the team first and foremost. Need to get the patterns right and predictable to each other. And that will help develop individuals who will come into a clear system with a defined role. It's not just about getting the maximum number of games into the young players.

Half back flank is not real hard to play.

Not convinced on McCrae and yet to see McInnes at the highest level. Your confidence is admirable. McCrae seems to have no tank and looks gassed after half time so much so that he can barely chase defensively. That's a worry.

I reckon "Young Daics" might be able to defend as well or better than "All Australian defender Caleb Daniel".... that bloke never defends anyone!

Yep, I hope Pendles is more accountable as a defender than as a mid.

Who would you have selected who is not in the side and who would you have left out to accommodate them?
It’s hard to say, because of our lack of depth, but probably Macrae, who’s a genuine midfielder in the place of Bianco, who hardly set the world on fire in the practice matches.

It’s based on the fact I’m looking at exposed form on Bianco, McCreery and Tyler Brown and it doesn’t fill me with much confidence.

I can see why it wasn’t the case Round 1 but you’d like to see the young kids get an opportunity at some point.

HH should get the go ahead instead of Bianca up front… but probably also ahead of McReery.

McReery has done very little in the hawks and giants games… in fact his trade mark tacking has not been there since the Melbourne game last year

If he doesn’t perform this week I’d give Reef the pressure forward role… just so as to get AFL minutes into him

When did McInnes develop a pressure forward capacity?

Why does HH deserve selection?
He has no preseason form.

Id say 9 players <50 games, Josh Daicos and Lipinski just north of that, is the very definition of the young kids getting opportunity.

How do you know he isn't able to be a pressure forward? Have you got inside info on him? How do you know what the club has been trying to teach him since he's been at the club. Have you actually seen him play?

Where did I say he couldn’t play as a pressure forward? Merely asked when he’d developed that string to his bow. Happy for you to point out anywhere where it’s been highlighted as a role he can fulfill.
