Upside - I get to look forward to draft night for the 6th year in a row.
Sam Walsh is a mate of mine... thought we were no chance to get him because he will be top 3. I thought wrong. But nothing good ever happens to Saints fans so I doubt we will get him.
Plus as much as I would love to get him... as a mate I would feel bad for him if he had to play for St.Kilda

I wish I could argue against any part of this post but I just can’t.
Die hard supporters will say that it’s an easy kill going for the coach after a loss but after todays effort and private rumblings from a playing list over the last 18 months I can comfortably say this:
We as a playing group and as a football club are going nowhere with Alan Richardson as senior coach.
There’s always chatter at clubs from some unhappy with a coach, I’ve heard it but it’s easy to dismiss. But...after our start to the season I now realise that our coach has not the abilities to implement a game style to consistently win AFL games and more concerning for me is that his message is falling on deaf ears.
I didn’t want to believe it and hoped things would come good but the first part of a team to drop away when a coach has lost his players is the hard stuff, the want to get your hands dirty, to put your body on the line for your team. Have a look at our contested footy stats for the last fortnight and it’s a terribly concerning stat.
I’m in an Uber now on the way to a late dinner and a couple of bottles of red with some St Kilda people, it’s going to be a tough night until the wine kicks in and we forget about the garbage dished up today.
I’m just a shattered man, like all supporters must be this evening.

Ghost - why the feck did the campaigner get a two year extension?!

Want a fight campaigner?

I'm not here to score cheap points mate.

Like most of you folks, I thought the Saints would be a hell of a lot better. Just go check out the posts before the match on the game day thread.

IMO because we didn't want to go into this year with the distraction of an out of contract coach lingering over our season.

Which I can understand, but 2 years was just way too much given what he's done as coach thus far.

The saddest thing is I don't even rate our Recruiters.

Fogarty.
Bolton.
Florent.
T. Miller.
Daniels.
2MP.
Petracca.

Our team could do with any of them.
What hurts is the players we've taken instead of the above are either not playing or are no good (yet at least).

Our Recruiters miss.
Our Coaches miss.

I've tried to find positives and the way I did this was to try and work out who were our best players

Who stood up when everyone else was failing?

Carlisle was good - 11 marks, 2 contested, 12 kicks, 7 1%ers, 2 tackles and a goal
Webster was very good for three quarters but he tired and was shit in the last quarter - reasonably expected considering the amount of work he had to do
Geary - 13 CP, 6 marks, 4 tackles, 25 disposals, 6 1%ers, but defence was poorly organised with frequent overlaps
Ross copped the hard tag from Jacobs and was beaten by him on the day, but didn't give in and fought his was back to relevence
Gresham was quiet for stretches but still contributed despite starved of opportunity
Same Long - he is a very dangerous player with great skills
Bruce worked really hard including 10 CP and battled in the ruck - at least he looked like he tried
Ross's poor disposal directly cost us scoring opportunities or gave the North players vital inroads to goal. He was a key reason why we couldn't sustain a fightback.

I agree with the rest of your post. How Carlisle didn't make it onto the best list in the match report is a mystery.

So there are players not happy with the coach. Why would we give an extension if it was that bad?
And probably more importantly can we actually get professional ****ing players instead of flower petals that get shitty and drop their bundle. Had enough of this club being dictated to by the players.
These campaigners get paid better than most in society to play a game we love. We rock up we pay our memberships and we wear our hearts on our sleeves. Yet this kents act like teenagers not getting their way.

Wow didn’t expect to wake up to this. Had originally set my alarm to 3am to watch it so very glad I slept through it.

Keen to read everyone’s thoughts who was at the game after the initial emotions have simmered down.

Same as last year while richo is at the helm were a 9-12 side campaigners hopeless

Mate, if there have been "private rumblings" from the playing list for 18 months and we still re-signed him for the extra two years, the whole club should be shut down.

To put this in perspective I have followed St.Kilda F.C for 50 years and today was the lowest point in that time as a supporter. If my parents that were alive today, and they were long time members and fanatics, they would simply want to give up, like the players.

Not even in the 80s did we give so little respect to the jumper. We are now officially unwatchable. I sat today in total disbelief thinking that we would at some point pull the finger out and fight it out - it never happened.

I could count the players that gave a yelp on one hand. Steven, Carlisle, Webster, Savage & Geary. North came to play but we didn't even turn up.

The rest were so far off that it wasn't funny. As for the coaches, well the less said the better.

Absolutely gutted - 2018 now needs a rethink.

If players don’t truly believe in a coach is it their fault or his? They are human, if you don’t believe in what your boss is saying then it’s impossible to deliver.

theyd all be spuds if we had them

“Stability”.
I could see the thinking at the time even though I was critical of him earlier. We’ve got it horribly wrong.

Stability ???? our players can hardly pull off a drop punt.

Evening guys. Just watched the replay.
Reading your posts has brought back a bit of sanity, thanks.
Cameron Ling called us everything he was professionally able to get away with, but he was holding back big time.
I actually sat there in the 2nd half verbally calling every mistake we made. I ended up speaking more than BT.

During the 1st half, I actually had this feeling of confidence thinking "Well we can't play any worse than this and we're still in it."
Then we got worse.

OK so here's the thing. We can't hit targets by hand (couldn't do it last year either so no surprises there). We can't hit targets by foot either. So there's no point playing the Hawks style like Webster and Robbo are attempting. There's no point playing the Doggies style like Steele and Gears are attempting. We've got one option. Run and Carry. So Weller needs to be in. Coffield needs to be in. Dunstan needs to be in, dare I say it, for his ball use.

Anyway, now to let off some steam.

Richo. That's not good enough. Tim Watson got more out of the players than this. That's the biggest insult I can think of.
I've stuck up for Paddy, but he either needs contact lenses or a degree in something useful after football.
Was watching Fogarty's 4 disposal 2 goal game with envy last night.
Josh Bruce had a crack but the guy's just not a footballer when around the ground. He belongs in the forward 50 or the 2s.
With Robbo down at the moment, we're carrying too many unreliable ball users down back. Coffield absolutely needs to come in.
Armo's missed a lot of footy, but he butchered it today. Need more from a senior player.
VDS defended Newnes prior to Rd 1, but unfortunately his JLT form has carried over to the real season. Needs a kick, and not just of the footy.
Sinclair clearly went away in the summer holidays and lost his return ticket. Would be nice if somebody went looking for him.
Guys I don't blame for today: Carlisle, Long (was almost our best), Acres, Billings, Steven, Ross (took their tagger, which freed up Steven), Gresh, Bruce (had to cover for Longer).
Guys I forgive because they've got credits: Membrey, Sinclair, Robbo, Savage.
Jeez, pretty much everyone else should be very nervous before the teamsheet gets read out next week. Including Richo.
