Staker asks for guaranteed midfield time

Staker will hinder the careers of plodders like Chad Fletcher, Tyson Stenglein and to a lesser extent Matt Priddis (who needs to be moved to the bench as a impact player ASAP). Ebert and Masto will be fine.

we need experianced players in the side and fletcher priddis and stenglein are proven players that can teach the young players cant have all youth

Way to blow a positive thread.....

sorry just bringing every1 outta dreamland

Not really. His rambling makes no sense. Masten and Ebert will be starting midfielders next year with or without Stakers input

IN: Staker
OUT: Fletcher

Thats the plan.

i hope your right but if he starts taking undeserved spots off up and coming players im gonna be pissed off

Hahahaha, what the?

Him being there means another extra bigger body to protect them, infact it will accelerate their progress.

Hahahaha, hinder..you are a funny man.:D
he might have a big body but he doesnt use it he is one of the softest players in our team

Staker demands extra time in the midfield?

Perhaps he should stop playing like a ballerina and earn that right.

who the **** does he think he is he doesnt have the right to demand anything with some of the footy hes played

And if he plays like I did in one of my seasons, he will be one of your leaders, always doing the one per centers, being on the bottom of packs, lifting his team mates off the ground and chasing/tackling hard.

staker tackling and getting one percenters dont make me laugh

Staker is very hard to tackle. Id put him about 4th or 5th at the club in terms of ability to just shrug a tackle. I think he will add alot in the clearance situations too. Thats if we chose to throw him in the centre. Can easily play as a winger
He can also take a punch too...

Well I read all the post's for a change and am pleased to report most of you are living in Dreamland.

Staker is NOT a midfielder, and should NOT play there in 09.

We have NOW LOOK at the moment,
Kerr
Masten
Ebert
McNamara
Davis
Stenglein
Fletcher
Butler
Embley
Houlihan
Priddis
Rosa
S.Selwood
A.Selwood
Schofield
Hurn

So how the Hell is STAKER going to fit in a midfield when all these guys are fighting for a spot?

You say Staker is not a midfielder and then proceed to list a number of non-midfielders as your evidence. Well done.

IMO Kerr, Masten, Ebert, McNamara, Butler, Priddis, Staker should be our rotation. Add in Rich if we pick him and there are your 8 midfielders.

OK with all those Mids here are my others

6 KPPs to Play: Brown, Kennedy, Hunter -Forwards
Glass, Wilkes, McKenzie -Defenders

2 Rucks: Cox, Lynch

3 Small Forwards- LeCras, McKinley, Wirrapanda
3 Small Defenders - Bones, Waters, Nicoski

Thats 14 players, leaving as you said 8 Mids.
Now IMO certainties are Kerr, Embley, Hurn, Priddis
Leavis 4 Spots for the Rest?
IMO Ebert, Rosa, A.Selwood, Butler

Stinger, JMac and Masten would be EMG.

SO once again Where is STAKER GOING TO FIT ?

I am Not being a smart Arse just pointing out the obvious, we dont NEED him so if he wants a garrentee then I say Trade him and let his new team give him it.:thumbsu:

Stenglein and Fletcher also need replacements.
The Selwoods and Ebert can play other roles on flanks.

I'd have Staker in before McNamara and S Selwood at the very least.

Staker has shown more in the middle than Embley, Hurn and Rosa. Embley and Hurn can play as defenders if you want to keep them in the 22. I would prefer the kids do not get a spot in the starting 22 round 1 barring injury so I would rule out Ebert. Thats at least 4 spots that COULD be replaced, I think the problem is if you want to sign him up for a 2 year contract and he states that he wants to play middle for the two years then I would not except. If he says he wants a good run in the middle 18-22 games over the two years with a good stretch of say 10 games Then I would except.

What the, not all those players were midfielders -

Doesn't matter anyway, players earn spots. Staker and the others on the list will only be playing midfield if they earn it. That's the good thing about having depth.

I'd start with Kerr, Masten, Staker, Adam Selwood and Priddis in the midfield.

Have Rosa and McNamara on the bench.

Have Ebert and Embley on the forward flanks.

Have Scott Selwood, Hurn etc in defence.

wow, it seems like he signs a new contract and everybody forgets how frustratingly inconsistent he has been. I really REALLY hope he can succeed in the midfield but he has done the same thing for his whole career; play one outstanding game every 5 weeks. Why is he the one asking for conditions?

The same guy who everybody thought would be trade bait at year's end is suddenly going to be our next good thing in the midfield. Strange.

So will all those players you listed play 22 games next year? Every week we have 1-2 outs (due to injury, form etc) - so every player will be given a go.

Would love to see Staker be given more time in the middle. Played a few brilliant games in there last year, absolutely destroyed St Kilda. :thumbsu:

It's how contracts are negotiated. You put forth your conditions, the employer can then agree, disagree or negotiate.

I think the conditions he set were very sensible given his history of being thrown around everywhere and his game suffering as a result.

Exactly. The supporters complain about being frustrated, but imagine how Staker must feel. One week he's playing as a forward, the next week he has to change his game completely to play in defense. He has never been settled into one role which he can work on week-to-week.

I'm sure we'll find next year if Staker starts to play one role each week (i.e. midfielder), he will become much more consistent.

He has been there for 5 years and produced didly squat consistantly for 5 years. Midfielder you must be joking. Couldn't hit a target if his life depended on it, goes 1 hand to much and fumbles.
No way would I be putting time into him in our midfield after the 5 years of crap he has produced.
Not in our best 22 IMO and we are the 2nd bottom side. If you can trade him then do it. Midfielder hahahahahaha, one of the funniest things I have ever heard of.

Apparantly this was on Channel 7 aswell as hearing it on my drive home but Staker had opted against re-signing because he had previously asked the club for a guarantee that he will move away from the KPP role and become a full time midfielder. Seems like the club agree that the best move for him is in the midfield and I for one am thrilled

IMO next year after a full pre season of fitness work, he will be the no 1 midfielder at the club. If this guy performs we are top 8. This year we seriously lacked marking power in the midfield. Staker wil give us this. This is what im most excited about in 2009. Forget Rich Masten etc. I want to see Staker full time in the midfield. He will go boom I reckon

absolutely this guy has the potential to be the next adam goodes!wonderfull marking ability and foot skills

what the hell are you talking about?? the only games iv seen staker in the midfield he has been in our top 5 players for the game. he has good kicking skills, great running ability and is tall.not in our best 22?now THATS a joke!

Did you even both to watch any games this year?

Yes every bloody one of them, he is an ordinary footballer. How many more years do you guys think you should give him on potential????
Had 2 good games at best this year and one was very good for a half against the Saints and then went missing. the other was serviceable against the Lions.
Great games for him, yes! but as a decent midfielder you have to be kidding. Lynch is a far better midfielder than Staker and he is not a midfielder of any type.

So you admit he has the ability to play in the middle? The point I'm trying to make is that Staker has never had a permanent position. He needs to know where he will be playing in 2009 so he can spend the off-season training for that position. If he can get his fitness base up during the off-season, he can (and should) play the majority of 2009 in the middle. He has the talent to, he just needs confidence from the coaching staff that they will let him settle into a midfield role.

Ok thats a fair point, but he has been there 5 years. And all I hear on here is how good our coaching staff are so how could they have made such a glaring mistake and never played him in the midfield?
Footy these days you need to be able to play everywhere especially when you have the size that Staker has. He has had numerous opportunity's in many different positions and has not grabbed it once.
I would rather invest in our kids.
