So because you haven't seen it, means she hasnt done anything ?

Interesting assumption.

Remember her blood lines are completely different to that of a regular Jedi.

You should know that not being a casual fan.

That's funny because up until this film came out, no one was leaning on the bloodline to justify her power, but now you're perfectly happy acknowledging that it's because of her blood.

It's been one year since she discovered her Force powers, it's just a very condensed timeline. It's a flaw in the entire trilogy.

Never really thought of Rey being a Mary Sue character myself, and I liked at the end of the movie, she seemed to have gone back to her old life as being a scavenger.

Also I don't see how this movie actually ruins the 'Anakin Skywalker' legacy or storyline, as many fan critics have been saying elsewhere, if anything, it validates his redemption back to the light side (loved that haunting 'in your head voice over by James Earl Jones, that was great)

All the stuff about Vader'a crushed/decaying helmet was proof that he was dead for good IMO, and Palpatine/Snoke played on it to mess with Ben Solo and Corrupt him

To this day, I am convinced Darth Sidious/Palpatine was the one who planted the nightmares of Shmi being tortured and Padme dying in childbirth, into Anakin's mind, to expidate Anakin's descenr to the dark side.

Having Palp's granddaughter proclaim herself a 'Skywalker' at the end of the saga, would be the ultimate FU by Anakin to Palpatine, and far from insulting his memory and legacy, it honours iT..

That is my interpretation of the text and events anyway, but I do enjoy the robust discussion fans who didn't like it, are sharing here. Least it's been civil and polite (mostly), unlike the shit fights on Facebook and Twitter.

Also I loved Hux turning on Kylo Ten and betraying him, I could easily read the subtext as an act of jilted unrequited love (from Hux)

I hope they release an extended version one day on the DVD/Blu-Ray/4K format, there was plenty of footage they left out of the movie, which might have actually helped the narrative of it was left in..

On the other hand, maybe Luke knew that Rey was a Palpatine all along, when he first meets her, and that is why he really didn't want to train her.

That makes Luke being such a dick in Last of The Jedi a lot more sense (in hindsight)

No..?

Spice Mines of Kessel are referred to in ANH, Han drops his supply of spice at the first sign of Imperial cruisers, it's pretty heavily suggested if not outright stated that it's not just something to flavour your food.
Did people really think Han/Jabba were smuggling paprika?
Well there you go. Been a decade since I watched the original SW, I'd assumed they were smuggling slaves. Clearly didn't register how blatantly they'd ripped off Dune!

Turns out David Lynch cracked the shits about it too.

Liked it. Felt like it had to try and fix some of the stupid shit from the last film and did a pretty good job. Over analysis of movies, especially Star Wars means you cannot please everyone I guess as is easy to nitpick everything. I just run with the eyeball and enjoyment test, and this one did not jar me out of just enjoying it like the last one.

Thing is though, the issues I and most others have with the film aren't nitpicks. They aren't "Omg that helmet changes between scenes, so dumb" or "Omg how did they get there so quickly". It's "Why is Rey a Palpatine? So dumb." or "The Emperor coming back is hamfisted" it's the big plot points, not the little nitpicks.

No one was leaning on the bloodline?

Wasnt all the talk after she first appeared that she was either a Skywalker, solo or obi wan relation?

Reckon that is leaning on bloodlines to explain her powers.

Just turned out her bloodline was from the highest power.

Except that those plots aren't dumb..

I mean after TLJ.. Have you not been around here for the last 4 years?

In your opinion. See, I actually do think they're dumb, which is my opinion, which is why I don't like the film. And when people say I don't like the film because of nitpicks, that's wrong.

It actually sounds like you never caught TLJ after your last post, so maybe go check that one out to see why Rey being a Palpatine actually is dumb.

So what has she done, canonically, to warrant such a power-up?

I haven't seen a flying spaghetti monster in Star Wars either, but I'm sure it exists according to you.

Blood-line doesn't automatically make you one of the most powerful Force users in the galaxy. Even a young Palpatine wasn't that powerful.

Let's be brutally honest, Rey being a Palpatine is still not as silly or stupid as Anakin being created by the Force/Midi Chlorians.

I haven't seen The Force Awakens in a few years, so I have to re-watch it again soon and see if what you say holds up.

Excellent point. Especially as Ben immediately vanished upon dying. Rey was dead for a good minute. Luke also evaporated immediately upon dying. Theres no continuity/lore with Disney. Theyre ******* it all up.

She probably didn’t know how. Leia did, so that is why Kylo and her disappeared.

It's silly because of the story set up in TLJ and the way it is revealed in this movie. It's silly because the concept of Palpatine keeping a concubine to give him an heir.. who he dismisses because he thinks his future Grand daughter will be more powerful? It's silly because there is no hints or build up to it through the previous two movies, and serves as a narrative "break glass in case of emergency".

Bloodline can have a big say, as we have seen with Skywalkers. Amount of Midichlorians. Also the will of the force.

She has two on her side at least which means the third is probably true as well.

Ok, so when Palpatine explodes, what if that is the trigger to force conception and Rey is now pregnant on Tattooine, just like Schmi Skywalker before her.
He's probably not even dead. I mean, he survived being thrown into the death star's reactor, the death star's explosion, the descent onto Endor's moon and the resulting landing.

Yet Luke as a beginner was obviously struggling, for years at that... so no, not really. Contrast this to Rey and how quick she picked things up and even mastered them at a level that is comparable to Jedi Masters, if not moreso. All I'm saying is that bloodline is not necessarily the reason for her overpoweredness.

Even a young Anakin required years of training.

Just turned out her bloodline was from the highest power.

The talk was that she was a Mary Sue, the "explanation" to try and explain was "she has to be part of a force sensitive family", hence this movie pandering the audience in the final third of the film by revealing her as a Palpatine.

To put into context, she's approaching Revan territory in what she can do, and if you dunno him, also known as the Revanchrist as a Jesus clone in the force, and all we've had is retroactive reasoning as to why she may be able to do these things, and what you have visually is roughly 3 years for Luke to lift a few rocks, and 1 year for force pulling a starship into lightning it to destruction on 2 single training montages and that she can read.

If you reject that the books exist and revisionism to show training the body, you have a character introduced to be the embodiment of the wizardry in space breaking known convention because her genitalia is inside instead of outside, similar to Janna's push in TROS as a straight carbon copy of Finn's character and subsequent reveal of "hey, I'm force sensitive!" and it's part of the reason why, when directors and those involved with her conception as a character state "we intended to make her powerful, it's not a mistake" she is called a Mary Sue because she has earned nothing in the beginning and her journey is based on revisionism to explain it, it is not built, it is not earned.

If you reject that she has a bloodline, and she exists as a character, she is broken and handed feats as if they are toys.

Agreed, doesn’t and shouldn’t make one over powered. However, Anakin displayed the power prior to his training, with pod racing. Until she touched the saber she displays nothing. In the EU objects can be force sensitive or have a force sensitivity. I always thought that awoken her. Considering the force dyad, it certainly stands to reason that an event caused the elevated power and that as with the finale, the Jedi empowered her.

Just my take, and I had it since TFA.
