Motlop is the least of our worries.

Him squibbing is nothing new and as an outside player he can get away with it a bit more. Unlikely he plays for the cats next year anyway.

He put up plenty of shocking performances last year and wasnt dropped so I doubt anything changes.

I've lost my baby, virtual middle finger at the mod who did this ;)

moving on, see you blokes in here next week when he's roasted for something else. Won't get dropped.
Understandably as there's hardly a replacement worthy of selection.

You're not surprised are you?

You have soft fans you get soft players.
Yeah i wouldnt mind an expansion on this comment either. I certainly wouldnt have thought I was soft sitting in the cold and wet at the VFL game on Saturday while a siren blared in my ears for 15 minutes non-stop...although i did go home at that point so a little flaccid at that point I admit...

In what particular ways would you classify Geelong fans as soft? Certainly other fans who dare venture onto this board and see the general negativity and squabbling despite our long run at the pointy end wouldnt and havent chosen the word "soft" to describe it. :)

That's a fair question.

If there was one thing I thought every single fan would agree on, it's that when the time comes every player has to put their head over the ball. No Motlop doesn't have to morph into Selwood overnight, but he does need to run towards the ball instead of pulling up because an opponent was coming. And it doesn't matter how much bigger the player may be (see Johnson v Sandilands a few years ago). The attitude that instead, it's actually quite acceptable for a player to do that, in my opinion is absolutely soft. You can't win games of footy by letting the opposition have the ball.

It was a shit effort on SM part, no questions.
Just disagreements on the VFL part. Don't see a replacement which is a key distinction between the Dogs and Stringer and us. They had more players to choose from and better VFL performers and depth. We have little of either atm.

Ah ok fair enough. Not sure I would call it soft - perhaps more "forgiving" of efforts like that than you, myself and others are. But still dont see the correlation in the statement of "you have soft fans, then you get soft players". Our particular attitudes towards player's toughness either way shouldn't and I dare say wouldn't have any bearing on how tough or otherwise the players are.

That is, of course, unless Steven himself is perusing this thread right now. In which case Steven, that is TWO WEEKS IN A ROW SON! PULL YOUR FINGER OUT AND MAN UP!

Yeah good observation. Was very much an instant response. Probably could have crafted it a little better.

I can't believe that people are defending it... he slowed down to the point he didn't even create a contest when if he maintains his speed he runs onto the footy and takes a mark.

And it's not an isolated incident, he bailed on a contest last week as well.
It lets the side down when this happens, and when it becomes a regular thing that becomes a problem.

How could he even look blokes like Sel and Danger in the eye really?

Absolute disgrace, outside player or not, another opportunity missed for Mots to set an example for young players that when its your time to go, you go.

I'm sure he walks around the joint thinking he's cut from the same cloth when it comes to Selwood and Danger, so looking them in the eyes wouldn't be a problems for him, and that in itself can ruin the very fabric of the whole group. The sooner he's taught that he's not an untouchable, the better.

Wonder if he lost his nerve, if he had any, when Hawkins cleaned him up in game 2?

No mate it was a simple chest mark and motlop squibbed the contest. The kick couldn't have been any better executed.
Rubbish.
You'd like to see cleaned up as a way of getting him out of the team? Execution...
That was a poor kick by Danger

The kick was centimetre perfect.

Just to confirm, you believe that not only is he not tough enough, but that his overall contribution (presumably factoring in everything other than toughness as well) is also terrible?

Please don't put words in my mouth.

Obviously he has talent, but a lazy attitude and pea-sized heart makes him a liability in our side.

Ergo, he's shithouse.

I'm 1/2 and 1/2 on that effort. If he knew there was no Geelong player leading up then it was crap.
But that kick was far enough in front of him to think someone like Hawkins was leading up.
I can think of a bazillion times Motlop has held off like that waiting for the drop of the ball.

to having him hospitalised?

its F**KING round 7 and the melts on here are laughable
It's astounding the lengths one will go to defend any player and the club. Bordering on delusion the safety concerns from that lack of a contest. The kick was perfect, you'll never see a better pass again.

He squibbed it it's as simple as that. He runs onto the ball he takes that mark ... no injury, no dramas, no derision from fans.
