Thing is, a lot of what Stevie J had just can't be taught. I haven't watched much of him as a Giant at all but he was an utterly unique player in the hoops, as much in his own mold as the Abletts were in theirs. Innate skill.
SJ certainly never influenced the way Murdoch goes about it. The exact opposite with his tunnel vision style lol.

I will repeat my view that it was a) the best option available and b) a beautifully weighted kick if the recipient had been willing to attack the ball.
It was absolutely a perfect kick, 2 of the approaching players only turned back to that position AFTER the ball was kicked, if Mots hadn't put in the short steps he takes that on the chest comfortably and then likely can chip it over to a free Parsons who was free because May had turned back to try intercept the ball... it IMO absolutely cost us a goal

I only have the limited video view, but Danger had the option to run on and I think it was Black who was down field a bit. Had Dangerfield kept running and waited it would have been a cinch pass to Black(?)
Nah if you check out the video posted just above yours, Danger was about to get swallowed up by an opponent so had to kick. Parsons was the one ahead but had May right with him.

you can see him shirk the contest, just plain embarrassing

I think May knew exactly what Motlop would do and even his bump ended up being quite gentle. You can't predict exactly what May would have done if Mots went for the ball, but I don't think that he would have tried to kill Motlop. He's a Captain now, and with that comes maturity and all players are aware that there is a duty of care to their opponents.

there are a few players that would have put their head over the ball even if Mumford was coming the other way.

hard to compare that vision with Loners backing in to the pack ( yet again )

Looking at that again, he also could have gone at that, at pace, and be bumped forward to ride it out and played on.

Such a soft cop out to say that's a dangerous kick. It was perfect.
At Danger's pace, timing and angle, and Motlop's initial speed, that was the probably the best kick that could have been created. I'd say it was one of Danger's best kicks thus far. Danger didn't look to sum up the situation and think, 'gee that's May up ahead, he could run at Motlop'. In fact, he didn't need to. He just put it in the best spot for an attacking player to mark. It was a beautiful kick in my opinion.

And all May did was a gentle bump/push away from the ball. He didn't line him up or anything, he just scared him.

And how often does that happen? Every week or very occasionally?
your previous ospt even contained hardly anyway...

Duncan is the exeception as explained by your "hardly" as brutal as it was.

Go Catters

Was a bit better tonight. 20 touches (11 contested) a goal and 4 tackles. Something to work on but that sort of output has to be the base level.
Need tackling every week. Need more contested possessions but wasn't too frustrated with him this week.

First 3 Q's were total shite though. Just not good enough for a guy with his talent/ability (to say nothing of his pay packet!).

Makes you wonder how those making excuses for Motlop go about their footy at Suburban level......but then again, I suspect those who excuse that, have never played a game of footy in their life
