He was out there. Have to say we didn't really notice him at all today.Awesome, Axe. Look forward to these every year.
Any news on Sicily?
And your_mate_07 was L.Ron Hubbard-esqueEarly days yet, but where do you see Morrison spending most of his time this year?
I'd love to see him get more time on the wing where we know he can penetrate from.
Love the report, Axe!
G. R. R. Martin could only dream of writing such succinct beauty.
Brockman looks to have more confidence and consistency to go along with his moments of brilliance. Had a couple of Cyril like moments where he bounced back to his feet like a cat after shaking a tackle. Seems to have improved his defensive game as well. He was popping up all over the field and impacting the play consistently.
Landed today I believe. When are the Irish boys due back?
He and Howe are basically HBFs.it's a good question. Is he too slow for a wing position? I don't know. But his composure and good ball use makes him a good half back flanker. I could see him in either spot, but there is now a lot of good competition for spots in both positions. At worst he is excellent depth, at best he could be a decent wingman or a very good half back flanker, which is what I lean towards.
Thanks Axe and HH. You guys are bloody legendsIt was a stinker down at Waverley this morning. A good day to sit in the small amount of shade on the hill with houdinihuddo and watch the boys got through a long and comprehensive session.
There was a lot going on with various drills taking place simultaneously on different parts of the field. Took a while to get my eye in for 2022 but some good stuff to report, so here goes:
No shows - Kosi, Newcombe , Moore and the two Irish boys.
Day and Butler ran laps and didn't participate in any of the ball work.
Who stood out in general?
Morrison was outstanding all day. Composed, used the ball well, hit targets.
Worpel is looking fighting fit and oozing confidence. Seems to have a freedom that has been missing the last few years. He racked up clearances, broke tackles and hit targets all morning.
Maginnes was really impressive today. Last pre-season he was somewhat inconspicuous. Today he was highly visible due to the fact that he was in everything. Using his strength to get first hands to the ball and get it out of the contest, but also using his running to get to the loose ball and take possession and was generally effective with his disposal. He is looking more like a Josh Kennedy clone and I think Finn will thrive under Sam Mitchell.
Connor Macdonald is an extremely exciting prospect. Both myself and hh were really impressed with Connor. He has exceptionally clean skills, and is accurate by foot and hand and knows where to be. Looks like he belongs already.
Likewise, Josh Ward will be a gun. It's not just his skills and footy nous, which are exceptional, he is a playmaker. Multiple times he would kick start an attack from the back of the square, then be dashing down the wing or through the centre square to take the ball again and deliver it to the forwards. We didn't get Horne-Francis or Callahan, but Ward is no consolation prize. He is already directing others which shows the confidence of the lad. Along with Macdonald, we have drafted very well in 2021.
Tommy Mitchell was in beast mode all morning. First one in and under most of the packs using his super quick hands to get the ball out. Now that we seem to be playing with a couple blokes waiting just off the contest, it gave Tom better options and he used it well. There was a drill where two guys would go one on one, one player with the ball and the other trying everything to stop him getting to the other side. Tom (with the ball) went up against Hardwick and won every time This could be a huge year for Tom.
Lynch v Mcevoy was entertaining. Lynch actually did quite well most of the time and looks like we really have something to work with. He is a more aggressive ruckman than Ceglar which is a good start.
Denver had a bit of white line fever this morning. He was tackling like a mad man, laid two absolutely crunching tackles, one on Lewis and I can't remember the other. Then he copped a really decent whack across the ears in a contest and went quiet after that.
Jeka had a good day. Loved his effort without the ball as much as what he does with it. He put in a couple of massive efforts to run full tilt and intercept at the last second, causing turnovers. With ball in hand, his agility and field kicking just stood out. Nailed a nice long range goal as well.

Saunders really impressed in the first major game play drill with his speed and clean skills. Likewise Seamus Mitchell who has speed and elite disposal. Some of his kicks are breath-taking. A couple of them didn't quite come off but the ones that do are Sicily-esque.
Bramble was fantastic on the far wing, kicked a sensational goal on the run.
There were three Box Hill boys taking part - Parsons, Blanc & Aducci
That's all for now.
Edited to add:
Dan Howe was excellent and was the first to really catch my eye due to his impact in the drills. Confident and clean. Another big year for Dan coming up.

Smells quite fishyİ like how everyone talks all sorts of crap on here ( me included) until The Axe-man comes in and then everyone goes quite reading his reports with baited breath!!!
I kind of feel like if we’re to make a nice push up the ladder then we need guys like Finn and Downie to take the next step. Both those guys have the physical traits so hopefully something clicks for them and we have a couple more pieces to the the jigsaw puzzle. Thanks Axeman!
Good to hear finn is continuing to find the footy. Has all the physical traits but if he can find the pill we could have a serious player
Smells quite fishy
Jed Rule from Box Hill also trained again today.
Pretty good move, get to trial all and see how they go and have the option for a risk free pickup.Jed Rule played for Oakleigh last year as a key defender, also James Blanck formerly eastern rangers and Box Hill the last couple of years, we seem to be trialling a couple of Key Defenders atm.
Considering that Hartigan is our only big-bodied key defender, is the wrong side of 30 and ranks as below average in most categories, we have no option.Jed Rule played for Oakleigh last year as a key defender, also James Blanck formerly eastern rangers and Box Hill the last couple of years, we seem to be trialling a couple of Key Defenders atm.
