I should but I’m a very stubborn person with opinions that I would like to share and I have no interest in a response to them.
Not sure he realised you gave a 2.2cm height range, and hence thought you were serious. Maybe with a 2.2 mm height range...

What about Josh Morris?

Nailed the switch to halfback at BH ... appears a bit like Dimma Mk2, including genuine toughness & attitude

Good size, good mark, decent kick ... what's not to like?

Given the influx of small/medium defenders on the list, Morris is more likely to push for a best 22 spot in 2023/24.

As impressive as he was in the VFL in defense, he’s last in the pecking order among the half back flankers on the list. It’s likely to be another development year in the VFL.

Brockman and Breust are our small forwards.

Moore plays like a HFF. I don't expect we will see him sitting deep at the feet of Lewis this season, he'll likely be pushing up the ground and then working back hard.

The first time I watched Moore he reminded me of a young Boomer Harvey with the way he moved and could get into dangerous positions .

These days, you can see is a bit of Boomer and a bit of Toby Greene in his work

You'd love any player to have about 2/3 of Greene's mongrel with just a bit of moderation on the absolute fringes of his psychotic behaviour. I remember watching him playing in his first years at the Giants and he came off with an injury and once patched up was pacing the sidelines like one of those caged lions at the zoo just waiting to get back on and rip in. Even when the Giants were just easy beats you could tell he wanted to rip people's heads off and you had to admire it. You can't teach that kind of tenacity - and sadly for Greene you can't really contain it as much as you'd like also.

Got there a little after the boys had hit the track.

Good to see that back in with the main group doing skills….Chad, Nash, CJ, Saunders, Butler, Brockman.

Dooch and jars not spotted. Box Hill blokes lacking today, but Ed Phillips looks to be out there.

Downie, Day and Pup doing a heap of running on the far side. Downie and Brooksby doing a lot of 200m work together. Day had been doing the sprints, then broke into a drill where he had to move sideways and back between cones and then take the incoming mark. He’d then have a timed break and back into a grind ball drill. Looks to be building up again.
Lots of drills today. Hard to keep up with who is where.

Harvey doing some specific with with O’Hara, MacDonald and Butler. Making them compete for ground balls and then get the hands free in the tackle and back to him. Other players roll through as they swap around the stations.

Noodle, Lynch and BigBoy on the ruck bag, practicing their jumping.

Ed Phillips, Punky and Seamus doing 1 on 1 work, alternating, with Andy Otten. All three feeling the intensity. Seamus hands on knees after each contest, doesn’t quite have the tank yet it, but Breust is also getting tired too.
Jeka, DGB and Lynch an entertaining group. The repetition required to make and break tackles with every set has them all spent. Hartigan didn’t gave Kozi any favors. Kozi gets ups looking for blood on his nose. All good. Both give a fist bump and reset.
Finn and Worpel trying to out-bull each other for the ball in one of the other groups doing it on the east end of the ground. 😂

Lewis and Tom vocal while the boys get a break and a drink, Lewis seems to be walking the walk regarding his comments about wanting to lead more.

Small game of handball in the field the size of a Little League game with red singlets against the gold jumpers. Sam relished the opportunity to put the red seeing that on and get involved. In one group MacDonald took the ball and ran the gauntlet through three players to score.

Day, Downie and Chad now over doing ground drills and kicking. Downie and Day alternating leading out of full
Forward, while the other runs in from the forward flank and delivers to the pocket. CJ running 200’s and then some hot laps. Pup back in the main drills.

Half the squad now split up into three groups with red singlets white singlets and gold jumpers. Red singlets versus white singlets Hickmott being very instructive stopping the play asking the other players to have a look at how the set up is looking. Being very positive and telling them all how well they’re doing well with the set ups. How they’re ready to close the space etc. Hickmott impressive.

Day running laps, breaking mid lap, timing his breaks, running again. Chad and Downie still running on the far side. CJ back into the main drills again)as a designated kicker)

Squad now breaking up in the brown jumpers and gold jumpers. Pup, Brocky, CJ, Saunders, Seamus, Butler and Fionn sitting it out. With Day they all get stuck into some boxing.
A little bit of match sims, starting with a throw in.
Nash smashes Phillips within the first 30 seconds of the match sim. Finn delivers long to Lewis in a 1 on 1 with Sic, pushes off and takes the mark.
Lewis and Sic have a good stoush. Lewis presenting right up to the wings, Sic still winning his share.

Each time a score was made they would start up in a different spot on the ground with her that they are throwing or a kick in. Finn had a couple of good runs with the ball in hand. Moore and Breust looking good. Wasn’t really focusing too much on any specific place just watching the way the ball was being moved around.

That’s all for today.

How's Downie moving out there, SYL?
Would love for him to push for a spot in the side earlier than he did last year!

Thanks SYL. Great write up. Regarding Day there has been some pessimism about his recovery but from your report he appears to be not far off. What's your take on his progress?
It’s hard to tell, but they’re clearly building him up again, as he was doing ground ball gets, some agility work, lots of running, kicking, marking and at one point I looked over and they had Brooksby next to him, bodying him for a marking contest in the pocket.

Not sure he is ready by Round 1, but maybe he's still a chance as we’re still 5 weeks away.

Lots of running. Nothing spectacular.

Thanks for the report, SYL. You mentioned Harvey was working with O'Hara, MacDonald and Butler. How was Fionn going in those drills? It's incredibly early days for him I know but just curious.
It was a very interesting watch. My assumption was that this was a tailored drill in order to get an understanding of how Fionn was going to match up against other players of his weight range, and how he used his body.
In typical Irish fashion one of the first times that the ball was rolled out in front of him and McDonald, Fionn chose not to use his hands to take it on the half volley but to try and flick the ball away with his feet so that he could get some space to pick it up.
He actually really held his own and was able to get his arms out of the tackle when he did eventually get the ball in his hands.

I was of the opinion that he might not suit up for Box Hill immediately and they may instead look to try and have him play in a lower level early in 2022 but after watching him over the last couple of weeks he might be fine to step straight into VFL footy.

Very interesting, thanks for that.
