Game time was delayed to annoy me. That gets fixed starting next week as I will be relocating to Arizona. So clearly this was a final attempt to mess with me ;)
It was supposed to be on Fox Sports 1 here in the States, no idea if that will hold true for new time slot
Arizona? Giving up on Corporate and going prospecting/digging for gold? :D
How've you been, mate? Any thoughts on today's game?

The SA kids will play plenty of footy this season still, and the APS season is still going ahead I think.

I mean Umara-Hagle is the clear choice at this stage and he's NGA tied to the Dogs anyway.
Even if we "win" the wooden spoon, we probably still won't end up with the #1 pick.

Had been thinking of giving up the snow and rain for awhile. Shutdown provided the excuse...not to far off on rebooting and enjoying the last few chapters of life out West.

Not sure what I expect. It will infuriate me to no end if they are lauded for giving effort after last weeks debacle. My position has long been that the absolute minimum requirement for a professional athlete is full effort every time out. You do not get points for trying in my book unless you are an amateur.

I would hope veterans have enough pride to carry us over the line tonight.

We shall see.

I'm with Deaneus! on this game and the season.
Poster above (GROTTO?) made good point about wooden-spooning in an abridged, Pandemic-affected Season, maybe even 2021 as well.
I feel for Nicks who's forced to drink from the Chalice poisoned by 2018/19, Chapman/Burton/Roo and Co.. He might end up getting us valuable Draft picks for a strong rebuild and be sacked for it  .
We don't have the cattle or spirit to make Finals this year or next, so either way (last, or 10th-15th) he's unlikely to be Head Coach in 2022, IF he gets through 2021.

You've got greater faith in these guys than most of us. These guys have gone to the well more times than most, it's run dry. That said it's been a weird year.

If we do win, then it has to be on the back of Jones, Neddy and Fog.

The only positive I can see in winning is we are still likely to be bottom again next week anyway after playing Brisbane. Fremantle might be our biggest threat to the spoon. If Port win big they might even slip below us anyway.

Young teams can crack under the weight of favouritism. Seems to be part of most rebuilds, hiccups when expected to win, wins when expected to lose.

Gold Coast have started a few seasons quite well too.

Let's hope that continues today.

Yep, this!
(*gravelly, Frank Oz voice*
"DO, or do not ... there is NO "try" " ;))
Nicks said it (75-point drubbing, murdered in KPIs) was not due to a lack of effort o_O . That worries me. We were behind and chasing the ferals all day and often looked like tri-coloured training cones = lack of effort, to me.

He has to say that, he is coaching his 3rd AFL game today. Watched a parade of new coaches for 20 years in Cleveland spew the same nonsense after lack of effort.

They think they are having players backs but what they are doing is helping the losing mentality take hold of the franchise.

First #1 in either clubs history.

It'll be huge pressure, but IMO we get pick 2 anyway. There's no way the Dogs don't match.

If there's no standouts and reasonably even, especially given the lesser exposure, I don't mind trading back to 5 or so and getting 10ish as well. Know lots will go off, but I trust the talent ID guys and a Reid to only accept a good deal.

You may as well sack them then and there if a coach blames player effort.

Player effort is the coaches responsibility. He's got to motivate them, and he's got to get rid of the ones who are broken/selfish/incapable.

I liked Nicks presser a lot, he hyped up Jones and he took responsibility by saying its in the method.

At this stage we have 1 and 8, and that becomes 1,2 and 8 if Crouch leaves. Given the highly compromised nature of the draft it's possible we might trade down, but I'm not sure anyone would want us to have 4 top 10s

*2-3

If we have pick 1, we need to bid on the dogs kid, even if it is just to do as much damage to their draft hand as possible.

Certainly.

Given we've shown we will bid on anyone we think is worth it I'd fully expect us to do so this time.
