Brad Johnson is 100k cheaper than last year, its worth noting that since the competition started he has averaged;

2005 - 104.7
2006 - 112.6
2007 - 105.6
2008 - 86.9

Its a tremendous run, but is he past it? :thumbsu:

yeah has been a gun in past seasons but i wouldnt go near him unless he dropped under 200k a few games into the season

Johnno struggled from an injury run at the start of the season. I would predict an average of 95 next year - about the same as he averaged in the last half or so of this year you would think.

So in answer to your question, there isn't much value in picking Johnno, or any other player around the 85-100 mark for that matter really, but he isn't passed it:thumbsu:

Warnock, 2nd ruck behind Cox?
Haha, Big Man's been a bad boy

a few things to bring up
1. andrew welsh from essendon...any good for a defender? had some big scores late in the season when moved to midfield
2. luke hodge...too expensive to pick up straight off with his inconsistentcy to play 22 games or worth his price tag?
3. will scott lucas, alwyn davey and des headland in the same team be taking to big of a risk? and if so which is the weaker player in that bunch..im convinced headland will probably not have a huge impact
4. will the chad regain his form?

1. I think Welsh was moved into the midfield due to the number of injuries the Dons had. As good as he may have been there, im pretty sure he wont be playing there too much.
2. We all know that Hodge is an absolute gun. I think he will be too much at the start, even if named as a back. He will almost be up there with Gary Ablett. We will definately see his price drop early on and i would definately consider upgrading to him then.
3. If youre convinced Headland wont have a huge impact, why put him in the team. I wouldnt wont any of those 3 in my team all season so you are basically wasting 3 of your trades up forward for upgrades. I think Davey is the best/safest of those 3.
4. The Chad will regain his form with the improvement of Port Adelaide. There werent too much positives for Port in 08 so wth some better games from the side in 09 he will certainly be back to his fine form. In a way it doesnt matter if he doesnt get back to his peak because you should be able to pick him up dirt cheap.

with that in mind who would be some mid range/cheaper options for the foward line?

I do like the looks of Davey as i said. Instead of getting to mid range players you could perhaps elect to go with starting a draftee such as Yarran or Sidebottom and in the process save money meaning that instead of having 2 mid range players you would then have one lower priced player eligible for an upgrade later on and also 1 higher priced player such as a Fevola, Stevey Johnson along those lines who may not need an upgrade. I for 1 wouldnt want Des Headland and Lucas in my team all season long.

Ill gladly take Lucas for the whole season if he has anywhere near as good a season as he previously has.

Hes probably the best value this season. No joke. First picked in my team this season.

It would be interesting if Sidebottom is eligible for the forward line, given he's only played the one game up there really in the TAC Cup GF. Then again, that may stick in people's minds.

He is tearing up the track apparently. Top 3 in most of the running drills. Id say thats a fair indication as to where he is at. Ill be picking him.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but it's a direct question for Monty;

Why haven't you allocated a discount for Jesse W. Smith? Have you gotten some info from Champion or Virtual Sports regarding him specifically, or is there some other mathematical reason why he misses out? :confused:

That's the theory: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?p=13286778#post13286778

None of the discounts are concrete by the way TRS, they're all estimates done on trends from years past.

1. He will get decent scores but possibly better options around that price. With injured players returning in '09 I think his role will change once again. Because he is one of our more versatile players.

2. Not worth the price tag, wait a bit and upgrade to him later.

3. Depending on pre season form I wouldnt choose all three of them in the same forward line. Don't no a lot about Des Headland.

4. I think he will get closer to his original form but i'd expect him to average like 90 with a few big games and a couple of quiet ones. I will select him unless their is a really good reason not to.
