They are going to be our biggest rival for some time I feel if they manage their list well, so we may as well get used to it.

And opposition fans can stop complaining about us getting two games a year against the Giants and start cheering about it. Feels like a while before they will level out.

Was so excited at one point he had to go off mic to cough.

Do you remember those tickets you sold me to the '12 GF? I was wondering if you had the original receipt somewhere because I was trying to figure out where I was sitting. I know that it was on the 4th level and you also sold 2 to swansfan51 and his lady (friend?).
Let me try and find it.

Nah as much as I despise hawthorn I respect them for the way they have run their football club and generated their list. Giants on the other hand...

Yeah that's what I'm saying. The presence of GWS has at least made Hawthorn respectable. I can handle them a lot more because they're not, well, GWS..

We also need to make sure we quell any chance of a rivalry with the Bulldogs as well otherwise we'll have to play them twice soon.. Media loves them versus us

Losing sucks but what sucks even more is that I just saw a team I know we can't beat if they play at their best (at least that's what I think anyway). That's deflating.

We were right with GWS even when we were literally spraying kicks right into their lap. They look a lot better when the team they're playing against is flat. Our intensity was pretty poor for a final. (I assume you're talking about yesterday as well)

I know the feeling and its going to get worse. It'll take almighty teams of any persuasion to deny the Giants multiple premierships over the next decade. They have a stupidly good seniors team, ridiculous depth (I'd love to see a comparison of the depth across all lists - just on the basis of where they were taken in the draft as it would illustrate the point) and priority access to a zone they shouldn't have conveniently sold as 'academy signings'.

We can't complain too much as we've done wonderfully well over the past two decades in particular, and have been blessed by having a team that is year in, year out competitive, and has won a couple of flags and given us plenty of great memories. Who I really feel sorry for is those teams that are really struggling - in particular those that were denied any ability to rebuild decently by all the priority picks of the AFL to GWS (and a lesser extent the Gold Coast - who have been stuffed by poor list management).

Sorry was a bit quiet towards the end I was caught up in the match

You did more than I expected, so don't worry about... It was cool to know a little about what was happening

Yeah probably not the right thread , I don't think we played that bad tbh and all the structural problems were forced by GWS imo including the forward line. We just got outplayed in a game of football when we were ok-goodish.

Spot on. It'd be hypocritical of us to complain with our academies and what not but I still think the AFL have put themselves in a tough place by giving GWS what they have. The people that are saying it won't be as bad as people think are hoping more than anything because we just saw a team absolutely belt us and they aren't even at their peak yet! (We WERE minor premiers ffs!) They'll dominate for a while yet methinks and the noise is going to get louder and this time I am on their side.

We sure did get outplayed. But you said it yourself we were ok-goodish. That's unacceptable in a final. That was just about the best GWS could play, besides their goal-kicking accuracy. And we were with them for most of the day. But our best could beat them. I still think GWS are one-dimensional myself. When they can't get their running game going, they are basically a standard top eight team. I recall Port Adelaide in 2014 running rings around premiership fancies like us and Hawthorn. Once teams figured out how to structurally prevent them from playing their way, what happened to them? Just takes some good coaching and the execution of the players to stop the Giants.

Hope you're right. But teams will have to play the perfect game in years to come to beat the Giants on the big stage.

But at least our academy is doing what an academy should do - increasing the playing pool and spreading AFL. The part of the GWS academy in which they are doing that I fully support, but its just a charade with the academy players from the border areas that they are basically doing stuff all to develop then getting priority access for. That should be fixed asap - it is sapping talent from the general draft pool to a team that does not need any additional leg ups from the AFL.

Footy is a funny game and so often has a way to even the playing field one can't expect, but an era of GWS dominance is the most likely outcome of this - and I don't think that is a good long term outcome for the league. Teams fight so hard to get anywhere near a premiership (Ask st Kilda or western bulldogs), yet the AFL has gone and put 'cheat codes' on with their western Sydney love child. The cheat codes failed for Gold Coast, but they are going to pay stupidly good dividends in the case of GWS, barring some unexpected outcomes in coming years.

Any word on Jones? Was it just concussion? Don't like seeing the neck brace out there.
He was wiped out when I checked in, not even moving. Newman might be a chance for a finals debut next weekend if Jones doesn't get up. I can't see McGlynn staying in, so could be Newman & Crappy for McGlynn & Mills.

This is of course depending on Jones's injury which looked like a pretty severe concussion to have not even woken up after they took him off.
