22MAY21: Hayden McLean/AFL Website
Barry Round was the guest on Front Bar on Thursday with few horror stories of early Sydney days. No lights at SCG no.2 - players had to turn their car headlights on. Some weird publicity stunts.

The goal he kicked on a not-quite-broken ankle s excruciating to watch.

[Video should start at 24:34. If not, go to 24:34]

22MAY21: Freo v Swans Match Reports/Multiple
Well this one hurt, but if you're up for the re-telling have at it

Is there anything on Ryan Clarke !

The media's obsession with Franklin really is over the top. If the sports journos ran Bigfooty, our current thread titles would be something like this....

Buddy Franklin v Carlton Blues Sunday May 20
Buddy's lazy team mate's 2 Point Loss to Freemantle
2021 General AFL Discussion (what the rest of the league think of Buddy)
Buddy's Contract Status
Swans Reserves (Buddy played a game with them earlier this year)
Tom Hickey - Franklin welcomes him to Sydney

I won't post them all, here's the latest...

...
Round 23, 2017

Buddy Franklin 10.2.62
Carlton Blues 8.9.57

I'm certainly hoping we can have a repeat and that's the title of the Autopsy thread.

One of my favourite games I have ever attended.

Best bit was I won a signed Franklin top that was given to me just before the game.

26MAY21: Luke Parker interview/SEN Radio
I've come to the conclusion that when Buddy eventually retires the footy media won't know what to ask about when it comes to the Swans.

Dwayne: asking if Luke is ever coming home to Vic...sweet mother can our media grow up just a little?

Deewayne is an imbecile and so sad he gets 3 hours a day

And in today's update on the Swanklins...

"This is for the Buds!"

I do understand why a lot of the coverage is around Buddy though. He's the player every fan of every other club knows about, god-tier player, approaching 1000 etc. Same reason why coverage on other clubs focuses around their big names. Richmond it's Dusty, Adelaide it's Tex, Saints it's ... idk, Bradley Hill's form fluctuations is the closest I can think of. Dedicated Swans fans would love articles like 'Top 10 things you didn't know about Malachy Carruthers" (yes that's a joke, kind of), but it's not going to generate the clicks, ad revenue for AFL, Fox et al.

I remember a time not so long ago, growing up in country SA (way back in the late 90s.../sarcasm), where there was about zero news available/promoted to me on the Swans, other than a few lines in the Advertiser (or if we were playing Crom or Port, maybe more) and what was on *shudders* The Footy Show or WWOS updates. So I'll allow the hype.

I find that The Roar occasionally digs a bit deeper, on here is great for fan opinions and the old google search of News > 'sydney swans' > sort by date can bring up some less covered info.

27MAY21: New Medical & Physio staff impacts/The Age
Tom Hickey, Don Pyke and the change in the medical staff:
The Swans brought in an almost entirely new high-performance team this season, triggered by the departure of physical performance manager Rob Spurrs after 20 years of service.
...

“They’ve been massive,” co-captain Dane Rampe said. “Their impact has been significant from the moment they walked in the door.
“We did have a really good medical staff up until then, but the fresh ideas and fresh faces, they’ve obviously come with a wealth of experience, particularly Rob, from Richmond, who have obviously been the benchmark ... their injury list has been next to nothing for the best part of four or five years.
“I can’t speak highly enough of them. They’ve come in and just immediately bought in and displayed a professionalism we’ve been really impressed by.”
...
More specifically, the methodology of Inness and head physio Damien Raper – who also moved to Sydney during summer after previous stints at Geelong and Essendon – has been warmly welcomed by the playing group.
“It’s more of an empowerment to the players, which I think can’t be underestimated,” Rampe said.

I found the following infuriating.

"But a 'Cripps clause', like the Bird rights, would give them a better ability to keep the group together – and reward Cripps for knocking back rival overtures throughout his career, the lure of a return back home to Western Australia and the patience for leading the club through its rebuild."

Those poor Victorian clubs having to fight off those pesky interstate clubs trying to poach their players.

If Cripps has any sense he'll run to west coast. Will be the reverse of Judd, where he's busted his back carrying that hopeless team for all these years.
Their average age must be a worry. Same with Saints, who have the oldest list in the league. I find that astounding looking at Cats list lol. I would advise Cripps to run as far as he can. Freo would be a good match for him.

27MAY21: Swans Contract Signings/AFL Website
Spot on Gary Lyon.

"While Lyon remains confident that Blakey will make it as an AFL player, he believes the young Swan isn’t suited to an inside midfield role.
“I’m doubling down. I’m going to buy more stock at the low price,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.
“He’s going to get there. He’s going to get there. I think he’s got an identity crisis at the moment.
“I think he thinks he’s a bit tough, a big-bodied Josh Kennedy inside midfielder, and he’s not. He plays like that and he’s not.
“I think he’s got to get more outside footy.”
