What are we empathising? Kid looked fine with it and even smirked. Complete overreaction fitting of this board tbh.

May well have been fine, but suggesting that someone hoped the kid was ok shouldn't be ridiculed. Dismissing people's feelings is far more fitting of this board.

Thanks for the links to the interviews with Brodie and Taylor.

The interview with Taylor was more than averagely probing and worth listening to. Does sound like Adams is pretty assured to play in the guts to start off with, and also that Collingwood pushed him out a bit - not because they didn't rate him but because they didn't want to be depriving other young talent of opportunities (which I found a little bit disquieting).

The interview with Brodie is also refreshing because it explicitly is avoiding discussing football (which they don't strictly adhere to) and so helps to get to know Brodie and cover some new terrain.

I agree that these ex-Collingwood players seem to be more media savvy. Same goes for Chloe Molloy. They also seem to be a bit more modern (talking about making themselves "vulnerable" and the like) whereas I think sometimes our club comes across a bit old school (e.g. Kinnear Beatson). Hopefully something they can add to our club.

Locked article:

Exert:

“I was able to get away for the first time in probably five years and travel overseas and do some different things and I found that really stimulating,” Longmire said. “In the AFL environment, it’s been hard to do that up until now.

“I had a really good off-season and came out of that period feeling refreshed."

It's a really good article - I can copy/paste the whole piece if Mods think it's okay.

One of the better "previews" out there, at least they know the names of players not regularly in our 22!

Their ultimate prediction (5th) doesn't make much sense though. Their reasoning is we need to keep our list fit and that there'll be other good teams as well. OK..., but to quote Luke Parker, why not us? They seem to actually have a good knowledge of our team, but fail to properly explain why they think we'll only finish 5th.

We have a extremely difficult fixture which leaves not much room for error.

They don't really say very much except we'll be thereabouts (what else can you say? That's how I feel myself.) As you alluded to, they offered this explanation in answer to your question:

"The question remains if this team can stay fit throughout the season, as continuity will be key to a likely gruelling season.

Moreover, several talented teams remain well in the hunt themselves..."

I agree it's a pretty unsatisfactory analysis and a bit of a cop out. Any team can sustain injuries but currently we're going well and we have the depth to deal with them better than previously. And we all know there are a lot of talented teams contending.

I think, basically, that it's just hard to separate us from other contending teams and they ordered us in that way based on gut feeling. And one's intuition is just skewed in favour of the teams one hears most about. I don't know where they're based or who they tipped for top 4 but I think that is one reason why people might not tip us to finish top 4 - i.e. we're as good a chance as other teams but those other teams are easier names to call out (or harder to ignore).

Have to line it up against the other predictions to make sense of that I guess. The actual content is decent if a little shallow. I went to check out Brisbane to compare and it's not up yet. 🤷

Im really surprised how much the fixture factor gets overlooked its one of the biggest differences between a top 8 or top 4 position.
I guess because if you're good enough, the fixture doesn't really become much of a factor.

In 2022 we made a grand final and went 6-0 against the top four sides (excluding us), so instead of the narrative being "we might not be good enough because we have to beat all these tough teams", it was "we might be good enough because we've beaten all these tough teams."

any blander and you’d back AI drafting.

I liked this. A bit of goofing around but you can tell some of them take it pretty seriously as well.

There’s been some really good media stuff this time around compared to most years.
