Reasonable statement from Harley, but again where is the 'no stone unturned' element to it - talk about the great effort of getting to a grand final yadda yadda yadda, but nothing about seeking redemption, seeking to make up for the disappointment of Saturday.

To some degree, I don't really care what went wrong. What I care about is that it doesn't happen again - and that should be front and centre at everything that is said. We will work out what went wrong, and we will do everything possible to make sure that, next time we are in such a position, it doesn't happen again.

Yep, this time they certainly do need to work out what went wrong, because it's exactly the same as what went wrong two years ago and clearly they didn't learn anything from that.

In fairness we haven't seen a full season of Mills and Heeney together in the middle. I think All Australian midfielder version of Mills would have been a very handy inclusion.

One thing I will point out is that after the final training session, Longmire said to the media that Mills trained at 110%. So they both had the same view.

I was not aware of this. That puts Mills comments into clearer perspective. Thank you.

A good statement for now.

Two reflections:

1. It seems pretty clear that quite a few members have written in with strong views and demanding answers. I suspect the strength of the reaction may have taken Tom by surprise (not that he would admit that).
2. The reference to a calm and measured review is of course the right approach to take, but I really hope it doesn’t all happen behind closed doors. The essence of the team’s issue is stage fright, and they can’t address that without engaging with the audience upon which their stage is set.

Heeney will go back to being a forward. Then pinch hit in the mids to get a game on our terms if plan A isn't working.
Yes Mills will be of assistance when fully fit as a midfielder.

So who would you put in there? 3 AA midfielders + Rowie is up there with the best in the competition when firing. Yes, they (- Mills) shat the bed on Saturday. I'm upset about that as much as the next person on this board but ultimately, it's one game - it happens (and yes, repeatedly to us).

So let's trade Warner, play Heeney forward, Mills back. Use Warner pick to get young draftee. Then we play a midfield of draftee + Adams + Sheldrick + Rowie. My money would be on us finishing well out of 8 with that mid group.

Yeah, you are probably right and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Heens did return to the forward line.

AA or not there's something missing in that mix of players - they're not consistent at winning the ball, even when we do our clearances seem forced, and when they don't win it they're quite poor defensively. I havn't had that centre bounce repeat forward entry confidence feeling from our team for years now. We somehow manage to make it work without being great in those aspects. But ultimately it doesn't stack up.

You had Mills, Parker and Rowy in there last year and the ball was waltzing out of the middle like i've never seen before. I feel we're lacking a born and bred midfield meatball whilst other teams have multiples. if this group truly does have it in them then there's something off between the ears, and i don't think we're capable of salvaging it at this point. But i honestly just think their strengths lie elsewhere.

I have 0 confidence in Mills coming into the midfield and dominating. He's just another non-specialised midfield hybrid who does the 'other' things very well.

Those AA's name are great on paper but other than Rowy none have midfield ball winning ability as their main strength.

The mids aren't the problem - We have no forward line apart from Papley and no backline apart from Rampe.

McCartin and Melican play like they are the Keystone Cops from Penzance with the number of times they spoil each other and lose their feet.

When our mids have a bad day we lose. We have very shallow depth in the reserves
