Geelong young gun Tanner Bruhn has been interviewed by police about his knowledge of an alleged sexual assault

The Herald Sun can reveal Bruhn and another man were interviewed in relation to their knowledge of an incident that took place in Belmont — a suburb of Geelong — on February 5 last year.

It’s understood the midfielder spoke with detectives from the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team at Geelong Police Station last Thursday.

It came a day after he celebrated Wacky Wednesday with his teammates at the Wharf Shed.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the pair was not arrested and they were free to go after the interview.

“Police have interviewed two men as part of an investigation into an alleged sexual assault in February 2023,” she said.

“The men were released pending further investigation into the matter.”

AFL spokesman Jay Allen said the AFL was aware of the matter.

“As it is a Victoria Police investigation, we are not in a position to make any further comment at this time,” he said.

It comes as Geelong’s season came to an end against the Lions in the semi finals.

Bruhn missed seven games with a shoulder setback and fractured wrist.

Speaking to the media at Melbourne Airport following the Cats’ win over Port Adelaide, the midfielder said he battled injuries all season.

“I have battled with a bit of continuity this year. Had a few injuries and a few niggles but I enjoyed last night,” he said.

“These are always the games you want to be a part of. I think for me personally this is a big reason why I wanted to come home, play in big games and big crowds.”

Bruhn began his football career with the Newtown and Chilwell Football Club where he played 55 matches between 2013 and 2018.

He then played at Geelong Grammar School and Geelong Falcons.

Bruhn was recruited by the Giants in the 2020 AFL draft before he was picked up by the Cats when he requested a trade.

Geelong Football Club and Bruhn were contacted for comment.

Terribly poor headline.

Yes, he was interviewed. Never mind the facts - and that he “witnessed” an alleged incident ……. As compared to “committed” the alleged incident.

Its a non issue

This is the headline the media is using and what I opted against:

"Geelong midfielder Tanner Bruhn interviewed by police over knowledge of alleged sex assault"

While the headline being used on the rumours thread for this story is being more blunt then the media

The chosen headline is reporting the facts

It's in the public domain, and will therefore generate discussion, so it's best it be confined here.

This

There's discussion elsewhere on this forum, it's the top story on newspaper websites and doing the rounds on social media

So much like the days following the situation Stengle found himself him a couple of months back, thought it better to confine discussion to one spot rather than multiple threads being started following the 6pm news tonight

I debated starting this thread, but opted against putting my head in the sand in the hope no one else would read the news - I also did a search on threads for previous indiscretions by our players, and we've started them before which helps confine discussion and also stop unnecessary spreading of rumours

Not a good look, but there's no way of knowing at this point what his suspected involvement/knowledge may be and therefore what he is potentially culpable of, so there's no point being outraged, jumping to conclusions or suggesting punishment.

Undoubtedly opposition supporters will stick the boots in. It's to be expected. Every club has their turn at some point.

Hope it's nothing serious. If it is, at least it's coming out at the time of the year when we can hopefully do something about it.

As above.

Tanner was apparently a witness, no more.

Depending on the circumstances, that might still not be very good.
Yes, if he was a witness to a sexual assault, especially one in which "Child Abuse Investigation" is involved, and didn't report anything, I'd say that's pretty bad and not something to be dismissed off hand.

Bruhn may have reported it + that’s the reason he was questioned.

Not sure about posting the Twitter comment.

A guy tweeted that he was questioned, but doesn’t mean he did it.

To clarify, Geelong is trending, was reading Holmes posts + Ralph tweet about Bruhn appeared.

Will evaporate fairly quickly once the facts are public.

Nothing to see here - move on.

Unfortunately, opposing supporters like to latch onto anything they can and use it from now on. Geelong is one of the most hated and despised clubs in the AFL.

Who cares about opposition supporters?

If there's nothing in it that will come out soon enough and everything's good. If there's more to it well that's obviously problematic.

Not for us, for him.

If there's nothing in it, really feel for the guy because idiots will hold it over his head forever.

It sounds ridiculous, in terms of how could anyone be that stupid/cruel...but it does happen, and it happens regularly.

Obviously, if there is something in it, then that's a different story and that'll get sorted out in due course.

Only need to look at the Dank situation Geelong still cops crap for today, despite being investigated at the time.
I reckon once a week someone brings it up somewhere online.
