It is not beyond the realms of probability that Tarrant will be traded. It is not beyond the realms of probability that Geelong would be very interested. Unless the price is high though Tarrant will stay a Magpie. Whether or not BF posters think he is a complete dud matters not a cracker. First round or equivalent midfielder at a minimum or he stays. You can back that in. Good god on the Hay/Ottens scale he'd fetch a 2 first rounders and a gun mid. People on here completely under rate the market value of tallish players. Tarrant may or not be worth it to you but he won’t be sold cheaply if at all.

As for Geelong it is a give they need top reassess in a big way. They had planned for their group to develop and win together. The fact ids this squad is not good enough to win a premiership. The only tradable commodities they have are Scarlett and a few midfielders. They wouldn’t contemplate trading Scarlett. That narrows it to mids and draft picks. I doubt they will part with a top 8 draft pick. I wouldn’t mind Kelley and Johnson but the problem for Collingwood is that wile it adds a couple of good, if inconsistent players, it doesn’t solve the midfield pace requirements. I can’t see a deal happening with Geelong. I actually don’t think he’ll traded anyway.

Agree with all of that Mark, but will add to it that people also tend to under-rate the value of a hardened midfielder, such as Kelly. For example, over the last month, Richmond have suffered greatly without Mark Coughlan doing the hard stuff in the guts.

Tarrant on the footy field reminds me of Dale Lewis or Joel Bowden about three years ago. All superbly skilled, but looked like they were going about it just a litle too easily. I've no doubt that Tarrant would be rated at least as highly in a trade situation as Thompson or Ottens (who both harvested two Top 20 picks, and have at times both had some minor issues over the years), but his behavioural issues might cause some concern to prospective traders, and therefore may reduce his currency.

To visualise him living in the football/nightlife microcosm of Geelong is a little bit of a worry.

FWIW, despite his porr form of 2006, I really rate Kelly. If both players were on the market, I'd far prefer Kelly at my footy club.

I’d be interested in Kelly because he can play but he doesn’t really solve Collingwood’s problems. They would still need everything they need now. Therefore we couldn’t pay his worth in a trade.

I liked that Tenace + draft pick part of the deal...
So did I. Terrible disposal of the ball but he is very quick.

As for the F/S rule and Geelong getting great players, gun players, I don't know if we necessarily have gun F/S players. Granted Scarlett and G.Ablett are pretty good, but Blake, Callan and N.Ablett are not exactly guns. And they are our only five F/S players.

Meanwhile, a team like Brisbane has J.Brown and could have had M.Murphy. Richmond has Richo and Bowden under F/S. So really, we only have two good F/S players, like alot of other clubs.

Yep, fair point. Horses for courses. Different kettle of fish at Tigerland - we seem to have an abundance of pace (Deledio, Raines, Tivvers, Hyde, Tambling, JON, Rodan, Hartigan etc..) but not so many in-unders (Cogs, Foley, Tuck, Krak). Plenty of marking forwards, but a lack of key defenders. I'm sure the Pies have their own personal needs and gluts, and will draft/trade with different priorities.
