NO TROLLS Taylor Walker racial slur

Silvers can't come out and say it but unless he retires early and forfeits his contract, I reckon Walker is straight back in when he's served his suspension.
And do you think that's good or bad for the clubs image? It's an actual question I'm asking myself, not a loaded question with my answer as a retort.

Do you think, as a club, we would look more professional and respectable if a) some time in the off-season his retirement is announced and we all conclude it is because of this instance, or b) he continues to say how sorry he is, then plays all of next season with the possibility of opposition heckling, boos, questioning of the clubs decision to keep him.

Unpopular opinion?
Taylor Walker has been a loyal servant of the Adelaide Football Club.

However, because of his own actions he is now a stain on the clubs standing within the wider football community.

If the AFC are to move past this debacle, they should send a clear message to the remaining playing group and the AFL community:
The AFC won't put up with this kind of nonsense. Taylor Walker will be let go at the first given opportunity.

Discuss.

If Texs teammates are willing to forgive him and move on, then he's valuable enough to be welcomed back with open arms. If not, then it's time to move on.

I haven't said anything about this as I wanted to see the whole picture before commenting.
What I am left with is this.

1. Robbie Young is a classy, strong and forgiving guy. He has come away with massive respect, not only from myself but the wider Australian community. Hopefully this gives him a platform to talk about the issues that his community face, if he wants that.
2. I don't think Tex is racist. When people are looking to insult someone, you can take a physical attribute to throw into it. Generally the first thing that comes to mind. Eg "You fat %&&*", "You skinny %&€£", " You bald %&&£", "You short %&&€", and I think Tex grabbed at something like that. Let's face facts, Tex ain't no rocket scientist, so a well thought out insult isn't really his thing. Now I don't think Tex hates Aboriginals just like he wouldn't have hated short, or lanky, or bald people had he of grabbed for that. Now he needs to sort out in his own mind why he grabbed at the black thing.
3. Why the club did what it did by dobbing him into the AFL I don't know. They could have cleaned it up In house and given Tex the riot act. By doing what they did they basically ruined his career and legacy. I have an issue with that, and how that will sit with the group going forward I don't know. The club is meant to be a family, and that's not what I would have done to a family member, and I doubt the majority of other AFL clubs would have. The insult was never heard by Robbie. So if someone at the club hears a player tell a sexist joke they are going to report them to the AFL?

Anyway, it's a sad thing all round.

Well put. Reflects my assessment of the situation exactly.

That is an indictment on the media for allowing it to occur.
Carey assaulted police in America. He went on drugged fuelled benders. He glassed his girlfriend, and yet they shrug their shoulders and say 'no worries'?? Because he was good at football?

It's one of the things that I find most annoying about the media when they decide to attack someone like Tex. Tex deserves to criticism. Absolutely. But these idiots are really going to get on their high horse and talk about morals? Next we will have Gary Lyon criticising players when their marriages break down...
Yes
Absolutely right
My point was more about redemption

all those players got 2nd even 3rd chances

Bet Tex won’t

I say he comes back through the SANFL for a game or two.

Imagine it - first game back in the SANFL against the Roosters. He and Young hug it out after the game. Tex kicks 5. North win by 73.

Of course he will.
Not if some on here have their way

Robbie Young has forgiven him?

It's good for healing's sake, however, it isn't Robbie's call whether Tex comes back or not.

In the end, it's really on our next generation if they are willing to bring Tex back into the fold. This isn't the first time he's been touched by drama this year either, seeing our debacle about not wearing masks earlier on, and I could certainly imagine some of them wanting to get away from how scandal-ridden the club has been in the last half a decade. That said, if I had to read the tea leaves, he'll be back for round 4 next year, and a part of 2022 will be a Tex redemption arc.

After all, Tex has a genuine shot at lasting until 2023-2024 (if not longer) with how his game is built, providing he stays healthy.

So glad we have a supporter base that has never made a mistake

Carey , Riewoldt, Dal Santo Even Cousins all looked to be gone a few days after all their **** ups

3 of them are in the media now

Tex can come back - he needs to.
Those that want his career to end over 2 words should also take into account 3 other words
“I’m so sorry “
Succinct...
Good

I haven't read anyone say he shouldn't get a chance on redemption on here.

Also, believe it or not, Bigfooty will have surprisingly little say in whether Tex gets a second chance or not!
It’s reflective of the most vocal members

Then have the points stripped as they had 19 men on the field!

I think there’s a small percentage that say he should be terminated.
Most I think are not sure how he’ll be accepted back in and think that tex will make that decision himself.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Some of those players shouldn't have received second chances.

Tex's second chances depend on what he actually does from here.

Agree - Cousins was a total **** up and Carey certainly pushed the envelope
As for Tex ….”does from here”…
Which is what exactly ?
And let’s assume he wants to come back

Nope... Don't see it that way.
Tex will be let go if he is unable to regain the trust and respect from his teammates, indigenous players more widely, the broad Adelaide membership, the media and the wider AFL community.
Trust and respect are not given lightly by offended people within the above groups. It must be earned by his ongoing commitment and actions to being truly sorry.
Over to you Tex. It's in your hands.

Tex is going to get booed no matter how long he takes off. I reckon the best thing he can do is serve his suspension, come back in great condition and play some good footy. If people get annoyed at the time-frame for the club bringing him back, they can take up their complaints with the AFL who decided the length of the punishment.

He has to be, doesn't he, unless he is bullied into retirement.
He has already been tried and punished by the highest authority. Anything additional would be double jeopardy and lead to a lawsuit.

If I made a mistake like that at my work I'd be instantly sacked. What makes Taylor Walker any different?
I would have thought most workplaces would give their employee a warning & maybe send them on an appropriate remedial course, especially if it was their first transgression & were a valued employee.

The thing is, Walker's profile means that the harm caused by his actions is larger. It also means that the harm caused by quietly looking the other way is larger.

It also means the apology is larger
But like I said , for some , it will never be enough
