He has to be, doesn't he, unless he is bullied into retirement.
He has already been tried and punished by the highest authority. Anything additional would be double jeopardy and lead to a lawsuit.

would be double jeopardy?

You can't actually be serious about that?

It's a joke right?

please, please tell me it's a joke.

I would have thought most workplaces would give their employee a warning & maybe send them on an appropriate remedial course, especially if it was their first transgression & were a valued employee.
Correct

Nope... Don't see it that way.
Tex will be let go if he is unable to regain the trust and respect from his teammates, indigenous players more widely, the broad Adelaide membership, the media and the wider AFL community.
Trust and respect are not given lightly by offended people within the above groups. It must be earned by his ongoing commitment and actions to being truly sorry.
Over to you Tex. It's in your hands.
Yep, AFC will be making him earn his trust back.

I'm annoyed that we weren't capable of doing something better, especially given the magnitude of what was being done. I'm not talking about movie framing and CGI, I'm talking about putting something together that was meaningful.

Let me ask this - did the video achieve what it was meant to? Has it been well received? The answer is no to both.
How is a public apology and acceptance of said apology not meaningful? The wider indigenous community aren't obligated to forgive Tex but the fact that Robbie Young has accepted his apology is still important.

As for the rest, refer to Froggy's post. You seem to have totally unrealistic expectations about what this video was supposed to achieve. Did you really think an apology video for a racist comment was going to be celebrated?

Unfortunately that is how Walker presents himself. He is terrible in front of camera without a script.

They are his words, said his way. It is honest.

The fact he was looking at getting a media gig post career is a sad indictment of Footy Media.

It's astonishing to me how awful we are at managing stuff-ups and scandals. I mean we have hod so much practice! We should be good at it by now.

That apology video was terrible. Just awful. Every bit of it was crap. Poorly filmed. The positioning of Walker and Young was sh!t. The language used was horrendous. What part of it meant anything at all?

We really are a complete basket case of a club at the moment.
He wasn't wearing crows gear. It would have nothing to do with the club (officially).

This incident has actually upset me more than I initially thought it would;

I feel it could have been dealt with internally, that the official should have confronted Tex and the club could have sanctioned, educated him.

It was racist, but not vilification. By putting it out there, it has become vilification.

I also feel this could happen to a lot of people, most of all dumb footballers.

If this happened to a younger footballer I think we would forgive more easily, which brings in a level of ageism against Tex, who is old for a footballer but young as a man.

The industry is so forgiving, I hope they can do that here, the outcome for everybody will be superior if Tex finds redemption. Especially the club, the supporters, and the indigenous community more broadly.

I also feel for Eddie Betts who had the weight of the world on him to stand up when the AFL won't.

I couldn't believe Eddie McGuire commentated the game on the weekend, it felt incredibly tone deaf for foxtel to put him on considering his long history of racial ignorance and antagonism.

Could have been a boundary rider I guess. Good English isn't exactly a pre-requisite for that

I haven't read anyone say he shouldn't get a chance on redemption on here.

Also, believe it or not, Bigfooty will have surprisingly little say in whether Tex gets a second chance or not!
What do you mean? I thought we were running the club (the coaching panel always includes our selections each week does it not), and the AFL as well - along with the media trolls.

And do you think that's good or bad for the clubs image? It's an actual question I'm asking myself, not a loaded question with my answer as a retort.

Do you think, as a club, we would look more professional and respectable if a) some time in the off-season his retirement is announced and we all conclude it is because of this instance, or b) he continues to say how sorry he is, then plays all of next season with the possibility of opposition heckling, boos, questioning of the clubs decision to keep him.
The club is in a no win situation. Sack Tex and risk the ire of the Tex fan club or go through a year of booing at every ground damaging the club's reputation and potentially losing sponsors. It's likely a wait and see approach of how it plays out next year. If it starts getting ugly the club will likely pay him out mid season. Also if some players don't want to play with him it's a tricky situation especially if they are a good player. Let's not be naive to think that every player on our list is a fan of Taylor even before this incident. Do you get your player base off side for an aging player who has 1 year left? Nick's will obviously be a large part of the decision. If he doesn't really want Walker I can't see how Riccuito can force this upon him.

Struggle to believe Kane Cornes sometimes, his response to this has been nothing more than pathetic joyful grandstanding.
And dare I say it his boofheaded leader Craig Hutchinson

Tex is going to get booed no matter how long he takes off. I reckon the best thing he can do is serve his suspension, come back in great condition and play some good footy. If people get annoyed at the time-frame for the club bringing him back, they can take up their complaints with the AFL who decided the length of the punishment.

I think my point was, what would affect the club negatively more, if tex stayed or retired.

A lot of the arguments within this thread are that it bringing him back next year could create division with him and the indigenous players, community etc and ultimately might negatively affect the image and respectability of the club, which is th emost important thing at the end of the day.

Yep, AFC will be making him earn his trust back.
The AFC will expect him to build trust and respect. But the only person who is responsible for achieving it is Tex.
I don't know Tex but my impression is that he won't shy away from his responsibilities. I think we'll see what he's made of. But it's up to him.
P.s. the apology video including the victim is a good first step.

Yeah, currently I'm at a wait and see mindset, but fear there would be more of a risk to the image of the club if he stayed than if he retired.

In terms of least negative effect overall, retirement > playing > sacking

I haven’t watched the video and probably won’t but Kane offering any kind of opinion on Tex’s apology is cheap.

It makes a serious issue which so many such as Tony Armstrong have made powerful statements about into more fuel for Kane to use in his petty feud with Tex. I can’t help but think Kane just saw another opportunity for clicks and took advantage given his form.
