Great thread. Was an awesome game to watch.
Have love/hate relationship with the dogs - it's an old Kelly/Libba thing (silly I know) but I was jumping up and down urging them on.
!

Me too!! I thought, for sure, Aka was going to get a free after he was held and mauled several times. The umps had a case of yellow fever, it seems - shat themselves prematurely.

it was a great game of footy. both teams were hard at it all night long. ling had 10 tackles and corey had 8. i loved the way both teams went about it all night. bulldogs are a contender

In case you only saw Geelong's stats, Griffen had 9 tackles and Callan Ward had 10...

Was a great game to watch, I have to agree.

But I'd put the Carlton vs Hawthorn game ahead of it for real drama and entertainment.

Plus watching Fev hit the post had to be the funniest moment in years, as everyone loves Brad Johnson, so watching him miss again was painful.

I dont get this "restores my faith in footy" thing, I've been to a lot of Collingwood and non Collingwood games this year, and as long as one good team is playing, AFL football is still the best sport to watch, especially live at the ground.

I think the game is as good to watch as it has ever been, and games like last night just show that.

But I think the ANZAC Day game was better, wasn't it. More exciting, I reckon.

Great comment. As a mad Cats fan, I sat back in my seat during the last quarter and
watched the game with a big smile on my face, regardless of the result. To hear the crowd roar as it drew closer and closer was amazing.

I was like that at round 1 2006 when we played, at the end of the third quarter I looked at the stats and thought both teams deserve to win this and it is such a good game that I don't care who wins. As it was we went on to win by a mere point and the rematch Geelong won by a point.

I don't, as he always tears us apart, and nearly did the same again last night. :p

Seriously though, I have enormous respect for the Dogs as a side. Great style of football to watch, and we've had some fantastic games against them. People have already mentioned the two classics in 2006, but there's also the shootout we had at Optus Oval in 1999 and the 1994 qualifying final, just to name a few. Then there's the couple of games where Geelong got out to a 6 goal lead at Kardinia Park, only for the Dogs to over-run us and win by a goal or two both times.

These two teams know how to put on a great game of football. As gutted as I am, I can't wait for the re-match later in the year!

Used to, yes, until he bacame the new Matthew Lloyd.

Two horrible decisions, both against J Corey to bookend the game - deliberate in the last 90 seconds, too high when Cross slid into his knees in the first bit of the game - laughable, wondering if anyone else saw this one?

Shows how stupid the 50m penalty for holding a bloke up is, Geelong got 2 goals from it yet it happens 25 times a game. No arm chopping doesnt apply to Harris. Ben Hudson takes the ball out of the ruck and throws it a hell of a lot. Higgins is a very good footballer. Umpire 25 is shithouse, only marginally better than Footscrays answer to Shannon Byrnes, Harbrow.

Good to keep winning while playing about 20 minutes of a game.:thumbsu:

What has any of this got to do with the OP?

Cat fans with guilty consciences doth protest too much.

Absolute gem of a game - a great comeback, nailbiting finish, and two teams that play fast, attacking football without kicking it around to themselves in the backline. Also the umpires stayed out of it which was good to see.

For the 2nd half anyway. Nearly turned it off in disgust at the umpiring in the first half!

That was so bad you actually had to laugh! That umpire has absolutely NO feel for the game or what is going on. I would hope he is embarrased!!!

50 mtr penalties for minor infringements can ruin a good, hard game. It is the essential 'cracking the walnut with a sledgehammer' example!
