I like Obrien or Brander if he's available at our pick. Brander had a quieter than expected year, he'd be handy as a developing player over the next few years. Obrien for the wing. Havent looked as much into this years crop as previous years.

The issue I have with Brander is as good as he is as a package what position is he playing? It's a gamble.

Rather go small

As a tall he gets 2 years to develop in our system, we'll find a role for him. With Tippet, Sinclair and Buddy slowing in 3 years the timing of having a young tall ready to go then would be handy.

Small is ok if it is a winger with elite kicking skills but if that isnt available Branders the guy, but think he goes top 10.

I'd rather target a few talls in 2018. Just feel with pick 14 we should address our number 1 need and that is kicking skills. Get the best mid that's available that kicks the ball well. We have enough ball butcherers that just hurt us.

I feel someone like a Lochie Obrien or someone like that could be better. There's a few I'm interested in. Rather not spend 14 on Brander

Delisted spud = better than what we have in our best 22.

When is the draft so this talk can stop?

Although I agree with you that some of these players mentioned are not worth picking up, people need to remember that this is the exact thread for "Draft & Trade Hypotheticals" for others to discuss.

Our left of centre predictions of why Fyfe or Martin may have come to our club may now seem like an absolute load of crap, but it certainly provided some light entertainment for those of us footy nuts that had some down time in our busy stressful days. Well that's why I come on Bigfooty anyway.

So people need to save their serious trade talk for the "Draft & Trade No Hypotheticals But Facts Only" Thread that RW is about to open up for those that feel like yourself.
I'm sure you'll have fun reading the posts in there.

There is so much dribble from some that think they know all. FWIW we were not far off Dusty , believe me.

How many picks do you guys think we will actually use in the draft this year?

Senior List:
Out: Jeremy Laidler, Brandon Jack, Tyrone Leonardis, Michael Talia.
In: Lewis Melican

Rookie List:
Out: Shaun Edwards, Sam Murray, Lewis Melican

I think that is where we sit at the moment. So that would mean that currently we have 3 senior spots (Though could be 4 dependant on if Alex Johnson is offered a contract) to fill as we always go in with the minimum list and extra rookies.

We have picks 14, 33, 51, 88, 106

I would probably guess that we would use 14, 33 & 51 in the draft. If AJ got delisted I would think that we would probably get a DFA. Though, because we are upgrading Melican we only have to use 2 picks (14 & 33) to comply with the AFL rules.

I’d be keen on Miles as a DFA should he go down that track. We’ve been sending Papley into the guts which is fine as he offers tenacity but he needs to concentrate on the forward crumbing. I’d be more than happy to sacrifice the pace of Cunningham due to his ball getting ability. We’d need to lose a player from the list I guess though!

This is where we erred in re-signing McVeigh!

That's where Jack Higgins would be good and I know he was impressed by Beatson. Jack barracks for the Saints , but doesn't really care, as long as he gets drafted, which he will.

Have been listening to Pelchen over these last few weeks. He basically said that we didn't need to get much in as we have a very good list already from gradual management over two years.

Serious? so we have cap space?

Our top 10 earn decent dollars but it seriously thins out after that. Tippo's contract would probably drop after this 6th year, Buddy's goes up a little in 2018, Macca retires, Reg & Smith either retire or renegotiate a lesser contract allowing us to increase some of the up & comers.

Yeah, I think we have no more of a cap squeeze than any other team that has a Martin, Fyfe, Dangerwood etc, etc.
Collingwood for instance has a spread of players who are on some mid to high dollars which is very deceptive.

Add 3 years to a tall drafted next year and we're looking at 2021 before theyll deliver for us.
