We aren't in great form at the moment but if Luke Dahlhaus isn't in AA calculation something's wrong.

Midfield positions are the most highly contested. For some reason, every supporter thinks their best midfielder (and therefore probably best player) is worthy of AA selection. You can't get 18 midfielders into 5 spots 3 starting two bench.

There's no way Dahlhaus is in the same bracket as Sloane, Dangerfield, Martin, Selwood and Rockliff so far this year. He's in the following pack, but surely it's clear he's not up there yet. And I don't think you should be picking wingers because their clearance numbers are so high. Genuine runners only need apply.

I'd have Riewoldt on the wing, but honestly haven't seen enough footy this year yet to say much about the interstate teams' players, I'd be surprised if anyone has been able to watch a lot of the Sydney games so far, or the Carlton/Brisbane ones

Agree with a lot of what you say but we pick AA on form and Dahlhaus has been better than Danger after the first 5 games, the other are ahead probably.

I think Dahlhaus has been AA worthy on the forward flank quite personally but in no way has he been better than Dangerfield. Dangerfield's standards are set much higher because he's proven to be better in the past, but he's been in the best two or three every game bar round four I'd say.

Agree with the above. The ridic standards Dangerfield set last year make it next to impossible for him to maintain or improve his standards. He was best on in our first few wins, and if it weren't for arguably a career best effort from Selwood yesterday everyone would probably be talking about a potential 3-voter with 32 touches and a couple of goals, important ones when the game was on the line.

That is a bizarre statement.

There's 14 players (including Dangerfield) who are currently averaging over 30 disposals per game, and who've played 4+ games. Dangerfield is averaging 1.2 contested marks, twice as many as the next best (Selwood). He's averaging 1.4 marks inside 50, nearly twice as many as the second best (Gaff). He's kicked nearly twice as many goals as the next best on the list (Shuey and Treloar). He tops the league in contested possessions and is fifth in clearances. If you're looking for a player that is perhaps getting a good run on reputation at the moment, I'm afraid you're barking up the wrong tree with Dangerfield.

The Bulldogs are 5th on the ladder and Dahlhaus far and away our best so far this year. And besides Picken in last years finals he was in our best in the Herald-Sun every final last year including GF. I think he flys under the radar and is grossly underrated. Picken is a good example everyone is saying Picken this and Picken that. Dahlhaus is better and consistently so.

Being the best midfielder in your team doesn't get you a spot in the AA team though. As Saint said, you can't fit 18 midfielders into the team.

So unless he's in the top 5 or so midfielders in the comp this year (and I don't think he is) then he's not going to get a spot on the team.

I also would challenge your assertion that he's played better than Dangerfield so far this year.

I'm not saying Picken this and Picken that.

As is the case every year, there is up to 20 midfielders that have some claim on an All Australian spot at this early stage. 12 weeks will separate the wheat from the chaff to some extent. If Dahlhaus is still producing every week, he has an excellent chance. I could nominate Mitch Duncan from my team as being in a similar position. He's having a sensational year and if he continues his current averages across a 20+ game season, he would be very, very, very stiff to miss the final 22. But there's too many ahead of him right now.

Flying under the radar and being grossly underrated isn't enough to be an All-Australian. Sam Mitchell's only made three teams in his career and he could have easily made twice that number. Dahlhaus is barely doing anything better than Dangerfield and there's several important midfielder categories where Dangerfield is miles ahead. So I'm interested to know why you picked him out of all those names.

Nobody thinks Picken is All Australian quality though. The dogs have a deep midfield, just because Dahlhaus is the best one doesn't mean he's better than many other teams who only have two or three decent midfielders.

It doesn't really matter where anyone is on the ladder. If it did, it would only reinforce that Dangerwood is the best midfielder in the league so far this year.

Dangerfield leads pretty much every supercoach or points system there is. Yesterday was the first time he's been clearly beaten for BOG honours, along with the match last week where I'm pretty sure he had a rib or two fractured or at least badly bruised (noticed him favour them once or twice yesterday). But yesterday's match he was still class when it mattered as well as racking up his usual 31 disposals.

All those mids would also be better forwards than Dahlhaus, they kick more goals and assist more goals.

Before this round, Danger was 5th in Supercoach behind Murphy, Rockliff, Sloane and Bont.

Should rise to 3rd unless Pendles or Martin pull out a blinder.

Meanwhile, Dahlhaus should rise from 20th to top 15 after this week.

Both doing well. Hard to separate the top 15 or so mids at this point of the season.

Happy that there are two Lions in the discussion, but I'm surprised Zorko hasn't rated much of a mention. Kicked 8.8 this year along with averaging 27 touches and 8 tackles a game.

If he didn't have those (about 8) weeks out with his knee last year he would have made for sure. He's so consistent.

o_O

the kid has some skills but you can't be serious

Dayne Beams worth a mention too. The main reason why we've been in games this year and been in winning positions.

From a Crows perspective, Talia's injury is going to hurt his chances.

Atkins has had a great start, but no.

And I'd fit Walker in somehow.

After 4 Rounds revised:

B: S Docherty, A Rance, J McGovern
HB: E Yeo, P Davis, D Roberton
C: N Riewoldt, T Rockliff, M Murphy
HF: D Martin, T Walker, T Greene
F: E Betts, T Hawkins, R Gray
R: S Martin, R Sloane, P Dangerfield
I/C: L Franklin, M Bontempelli , L Shuey, R Laird
Glad you picked Docherty , been v good in an ordinary team !!

Unfortunately he is no chance with KB on the selection panel !!

There's potentially 4 lions (Rocky, Zorko, Martin & Beams) who could be a chance at AA yet we are 1-4. Thats too many from a team that far down the ladder
