Put a bloke who does his best work outside the contest where he belongs and a bloke who is a good inside midfielder where he can play his best football? What do we need wingers for otherwise? Chunk and Lewis should've been able to do just fine on the wing if there was nary a difference between the positions.
My point is that the wing and centre positions are just spots on a field these days. They are all on ballers. Essentially we should have on ball brigade of Langdon, Tomlinson, Brayshaw, Oliver and Viney. We also need to fit Harmes in there so someone has to line up at HF perhaps or on the bench.

Nevertheless, the recruitment of Tomlinson and Langdon gives depth which is great. Personally I don’t think Jones is best 22 anymore. I’d also like to see KK get a really good run at it injury free.

Ha, we've just signed Langdon and Tomlinson. Bit late for us to start getting concerned about disposal. I don't think Sam Gray is anything flash, but he's not too old and can play a position we're short in. He'd come cheap. He's essentially the Adam Tomlinson of small forwards / half flankers except we don't have to pay him a top 10 salary to get him to come here.

I don't know why we're not into Butler. Hannan was awful this year, Garlett left (quite a while ago), Spargo was also rubbish, Trac should be spending more time in the midfield, Lewis retired and AVB is perennially injured. We could sign up a few small forward types and still be short in the department during the next season.
Agree, and it irritates me hearing Mahoney say he thinks we have enough ability up forward with our current list. We absolutely don’t.

I don't think they're the same at all but I have no interest in continuing that part of the conversation.

A lot of people don't want Jones to be best 22 anymore, but so far no one has been consistently good enough to take his spot in the side. Until that happens, Jones will keep getting games. I'm not convinced Tomlinson is a better wing option than Jones, in any case. Langdon seems like he is.

I don’t know anything about draftees so can only pass on what I’m being told.

Serong has been on the cards all year. Apparently in terms of best available, he is the clear leader without Rowell and Anderson. Daylight to 4, some good quality in the top 10 but it seems to drop off after that. Serong would suit our small forward needs for the 2-3 years. An upgrade on everything we have in that role.
This would explain why Mahoney is happy to also go to the draft if we don't split.

Have followed the Draft closely this year, Serong would be a great get. Will spend majority next year as a half forward but once he gets more experience, has the ability to make a huge impact in the midfield.

Yeah he’s been our back up since we learnt GC were pitching the PP (pretty sure I posted this about 2 months ago).

Our preference is still for 2 top 10s but that’s our fall back. We may even trade 3 on draft night.

So my mate doesn’t have melbourne in their mock but thinks the are below options for us depending on the picks we may hold.

Serong
Flanders (surely nickname is Ned)
Kemp
Robertson
Weightman
Surprised Young isn't on that list. Great skills and a player who looks likely to play the old Hodge role of quarterback. Serong looks good, but I still think Kemp will turn into a gun. I don't think we'll risk taking him, but whoever does will have a player on their hands when he's ready to go. I'm hoping a decent player will fall back to our pick 26. Have to nail those two picks this year as we need some quality youth in the side..

Santa didn’t get you that bike as a kid, did he?

I ask around and pass on what I get back.
Does your mate work at Melbourne?
If not, it's a blokes opinion on what we might do.

With pick 3 we can pick anyone who isn't Anderson or Rowell.

I had the great fortune to have 10 minutes of my life that shall never be retrieved by listening to some dude on trade talk called Marc McGowan giving rare insight to our forward line trading when he delved into “Upgrading their small forward corpse” Possibly may have mispronounced a word there or in fact hit the nail right on the head.

I misinterpreted your post, apologies, fair bump, play on.

Oh well the game has changed to me from what it used to be. There used to be a lot more traditional wingman playing football.

Where did you hear that we’re looking at Serong? Isn’t he a medium inside/forward type?

I get a snippet every now and then from people (well 1 person who gives me decent info really) I know at the club. I don’t see them very often these days though so I don’t badger them when I do.

I also have a few friends who work in the under 18 system and they are usually pretty accurate if they share something.

We view Serong as a Robbie Gray type. Super smart without being overly quick. Very creative and will likely start his career as a half forward then move to more midfield minutes as he develops.

As I said, we are still open to trading down if the price is right. I am starting to think that might not happen though.

No Ash or Young in that list? If that list is right, we haven’t learned a single thing this year and we are truly f**cked.

I don’t know about Ash, but apparently we think Young is a bit too much of a one way runner for pick 3.

He might come into the picture if we trade down a little.

We’ve been quite into Miles Bergman for a while as well. I think we were hoping to use our second pick but his form in the second half of the year has pushed into first round contention.

I really wanted a Mongoose, but my old man got me a Malvern Star instead - and I was annoyed. It did have legit Skyway Tuff Wheels though. And then my cousin got me an annodized yellow handbrake which was sick to match the yellow Tuff wheels

But did it have spoke-e-dokes?

Wouldn’t mind seeing us trade pick 3 to GWS for 6 and their 2020 1st.

Take Young/Ash/Stephens at pick 6.
On draft night see if we can trade the GWS 2020 1st to get a pick late in the first round if Weightman is still available.

For GWS, they want Green. If Green gets a bid in the top 5 (which is likely) they are either going to have Green and a 2020 first, or Green and pick 3. Makes sense for them. Could possibly get a later pick thrown in too.

3 for 6, 40 or a player and their 2020 first rounder is what I'd be asking for.

I dont think its a bad idea to target small forwards in the draft. One of those positions that doesn't require a lot of development to get an impact out of players.

+1 ... melting about the players we draft 6 weeks before we draft them is setting a new standard.

What else do we have to talk about?

Eh, we've been bin-dipping with later picks on small forwards in the draft in recent years and that's why we're short in that department.

Well we have 3,26,50,79. How many picks do we actually have to make ATM with/without Stretch, JKH?

Majority of the good small forwards come later in the draft. Our development sucks ass, not the picks we use on them

What year we talking? My first real bike was a red mountain bike of some sort. Cant remember the brand. Going around 1994 I reckon.

I get everyone is annoyed, so am I, but the positives of Langdon and Tomlinson far outweigh the negatives. Think of the relief Brayshaw, Oliver, Viney, Petracca and Harmes get with two pure outside types.
