I'd be selling 30 to Essendon for Melbourne or their F1. Taking some generic west Australian kid like Davies at 44, Urquart 68 and MacTaggart with the last unless there's a Champion bid, in which case match Champion and rookie Loch. Maximise the 190cm athletic beast with some knocks on his game foot soldier, build the ultimate running machine. The days of an attractive brand of football are over friends, time to run, jump, bash, crash, spoil, and get it forward at any cost.

Have to say we have come away with a big win!

It will be interesting to see what offers WC get for their picks with some gun players still left to be picked up.

Would definitely slide back a few spots to add another F1 or F2.

Hoping we get Barratt or Dennis (or Shanahan) and then either Davis or Boxshall.

the 2025 charge has begun

Too much talent left on the board, I'm using our Hawks F2 to go for Brisbanes 46/47

30 Shanahan, If Essendon want him it's two F1s and we'll send 2 x F2s back but I want Shanahan badly just far too talented to pass up
44 Dennis/Nicholls
46 Boxshall
47 Ough/Urquart
68 Knobel

Can't solve all our problems at once. Hewett/Johnston will help our run this year and hopefully we can trade back in somewhere and land boxshall and another KPD before taking knobel late, would set us up very nicely to just focus on fixing our mids next year.

If we land Shanahan, I'm fine letting Allen walk to free agency getting us tier 1 compo next year and walk away with Warner, Rodriguez and Swadling from next years draft/trade period and our team suddenly looks very different.

Puts us about 4 years ahead of Norf's rebuild instantly, because we invested in a couple of quality senior players instead of hoping one kid, in an even draft, will take us to the promised land.

Also have a strong hand for the draft + Warner next year too.

Feel much better about things after the misery of trade week.

Couldn't agree more.

Very happy, now to just finish off the draft with a KPD, Midfielder and Champion and job done.

We don't need another tall forward .

We have made maric go back because we have too many .

Sell the shanahan pick 30 to the highest bidder who can give us 2x picks in the mid to late 30s

Like essendon or port
I'd prefer to trade with the lions....Hawks F2 for 46 47.

30 best available - Shanahan I'm not against. Davis. Barrat. Gross.
44 The BOXshall. Ough
46 Dennis. O'farell.
47 Urquhart.

Champion.

Late pick/rookie....Knoble

Some people have lost their minds.

If you guys have to somehow find ways to square it up to pretend to yourselves that all is swell, you guys be you. But I know deep down you have that nagging feeling at the bottom of your soul that, a shit sandwich is indeed, a shit sandwich.

The 45 freebie was a good get. Obviously Port thought someone else was making an offer for that pick.

Talk of trading next year's picks for 28 is batshit insane. If someone else gets a trade in and takes Shanahan, let them. Next year's Hawks F1 should not be on the table. And this talk of getting Moraes, too. Who tf are you people who think you build lists with 2nd rounders? He's a 1 out of 5 chance of being a top 15 player, and a 1 out of 20 of being an A-grader. Every year, some of you guys fall for the same BS. There was a Moraes, last year, the year before that, next year, the year after. Every year there are these players you guys fall in love with and forget there are more of them. Lots more. There's not that many Jagga Smiths and Sid Drapers, though.

Also notice how well Richmond hid Hotton? An ok risk considering their hand, but you can guarantee if Twomey was saying Tigers were hot on Hotton (rather than Allan), there would have been more interest. All the talk of Allan going before our pick was hot air created by Richmond. All of a sudden, we're "Baroogah! We got Bro".

Bro might turn out to be a Dawson or Yeo. But he might turn out to be that guy who gets the footy, but doesn't use it well (this is so many players). That's the difference between Smith and Allan. The chances are that Smith makes it as a Brent Harvey type mid, that every time he gets the ball, you know he's going to use it well. Bro is odds on to be that guy who is pretty good, but just doesn't have that ultimate class. We all know that it's that top end that wins and loses flags.

If Shanahan is there. take him. If someone offers stupids for him, let them, Don't get dragged into coughing up Hawlks F1. Take what we have. Cut the losses. And hope that Allan turns into a Dawson or Yeo, or even Redden type. Take our F1 and Hawks F1 into the draft next year, and only give up one of them for Warner. Maybe even use an F1 instead.

Also: Reid quelled rumours and said he was willing to go anywhere. Body language said different. Massive fllight risk.

You and random260 need to hook up and have a vegan bbq.

While we still need to see how it all works out I think it's further testament to the fact that people who lose their minds before things have played out need to get some perspective.

Honestly from where it stands now it's looking a fantastic offseason. I'm of the brief that Allan could be an elite talent, I like that we get a free hit with the Port pick and we get a couple of proven mature bodies which this club desperately needs to get us back on track and start winning.

The best way to attract and keep talent is to play winning football and I think the outcomes of this trade period is shaping up to deliver that.
I mentioned something along these lines last week. Was bringing in experience with Baker and Graham to raise the floor and increase medium term competitiveness a big part of the Harley Reid retention strategy?

I think the list build is going nicely.

There needs to be a balance of hitting the draft and bringing in seniors. We've seen through GC and North that just loading up on top 10 picks doesn't directly related to wins.

Clarkson and McKenna both went on record this year saying that having talented kids is one thing but having the seniors to teach them to become stars is more critical. Jaidyn Stephenson....cya later

Speaking of losing their mind, if you think our pick 3 trade hasn’t been taken well by our fan base, you should go and look at reaction by north fans to their own F1 trade.

Whitlock better be the 2nd coming of silvagni or Carey.

Especially after being asked to fly across the country for 2 homes games a year...

Correct - although I get the feeling everyone is keen to tank until Tassie come in, trade O.Allen and Harley for a pack of chips and let 22 19 yr olds play footy against men.

Was I the only one sick of watching us get bent over the past 3 years

But it doesn't have to be tomorrow. Otherwise you risk building a list that doesn't have enough firepower to go all the way.

There's a lot of variables in a flag. Good coaches winning flags with great sides. Great coaches winning flags with good sides. Reduce the variables. Build a list with enough firepower for a good coach and a great coach to win a flag.

It's about long term firepower, not winning a few games so we can attract a decent player now. We're West Coast. It's built. They will come.

I'm unsure whether the AFL list managers are aware of this... surely it can't be this simple? So many variables...

So pick 3 landed a total of:

Bo Allan, Liam Baker, Matt Owies and mystery pick 45.

Pick 45 Urquhart or

Gross or

Ough or a

Barret

So four players. For pick 3 being a single player.

How is this not a win?
Devils advocate, but we gave Carlton additional picks for owies did we not?

So the 45 is probably cancelled out. Either way, things are never as melty as they seem

It does have to be now if we want to retain possibly the best player in the league for years to come. This is the year that Harley needs to sign an extension and to do that he needs to see a future at WC and that starts with a winning culture which I think Bakes and Graham will bring. A Draper,TT, FOS etc was unlikely to do that at least in their 1st year.
Harley is 100% the most important asset to our rebuild. He will attract other players, even in his 1st year WC attracted interest from other players reportedly. Its rare for 1 player to make a significant difference but I think HR is that player and it would surprise me if he was not a major consideration when we made that deal.
That is why I put the question to nameless . He has some inside info, you merely have an opinion.

Still would have preferred Smith, Draper, Langford or Travaglia to the showbag.

Still also would have preferred MReid and Allan at 16 and 17 plus 45 (which we still would have got) to the showbag.

Owies and Baker are role players, not game winners.

Im sure in the future SOMEONE picked at 3 or later will become a great player.

However 4 players output of the quality we have got plus 45 likely trumps the single player we would have selected.

Bo Allan is a very good selection. I can see him having a similar impact as Draper or Landford.

It's not quite that though is it.

That's assuming players couldn't have been gotten for other picks. So lets say Baker comes for pick 30 (originally pick 23? we should have been able to make that happen) and Owies for late picks.

Pick 3 (Jagga / Draper)
v
Bo Allan / Pick 30 / Mystery pick 45

Principle would be the same.

Splitting pick 3 for multiple options.

Which option is a better outcome for us? A single player or multiole players in an even deep draft?
