It's not quite that though is it.

That's assuming players couldn't have been gotten for other picks. So lets say Baker comes for pick 30 (originally pick 23? we should have been able to make that happen) and Owies for late picks.

Pick 3 (Jagga / Draper)
v
Bo Allan / Pick 30 / Mystery pick 45
It is that. That was the deal, not what could have been. We could have walked Baker to the PSD too but that didnt happen.
Freo had 3 picks before that 23 that they were prepared to put on the table for Baker so I doubt very much that 23 was going to get the job done.

Im sure in the future SOMEONE picked at 3 or later will become a great player.

However 4 players output of the quality we have got plus 45 likely trumps the single player we would have selected.

Bo Allan is a very good selection. I can see him having a similar impact as Draper or Landford.
Hindsight’s going to settle this argument but for the record I would have kept the pick and taken Smith at 3. We also could have had Allan, Reid and 45 had we not traded for the old blokes and told Port we were taking Berry.

Would you rather Murphy Reid, pick 55 and 63 or Baker and Owies? That’s what it’s washed out as.

I know you rate the Allan selection but I don’t, I don’t think he’l get anywhere near Draper or Langford but I’d love to be proven wrong. I see him having an impact somewhere between Ginbey and Chesser off a HBF which we are well stocked in for his type of player. I’m with Phil I don’t see him cutting it as a mid especially with such awful disposal, I would have taken MReid.

You mean pick 63 and 68. Woweee

That is reaching.

The player at 45 wouldnt be there 20 picks later at pick 63. So no they dont cancel out.
Not completely cancelling out then, but where do you draw the line? Picks lower than 46 get included in the comparison but not those above?

Richmond linked to Shanahan prior to the draft you would think they take him.
Who weren’t Richmond linked with?

They were also heavily linked with J Whitlock, Dodson, Gross, ….

We will have a very good player today at pick 30 - or find another Norf deal

Still would have preferred Smith, Draper, Langford or Travaglia to the showbag.

Still also would have preferred MReid and Allan at 16 and 17 plus 45 (which we still would have got) to the showbag.

Owies and Baker are role players, not game winners.

Would you have preferred to have traded our F1st for the Giants single pick 16?

No you would be melting. And I would join you all.

North offered their future 1st for every selection from pick 8. They got a taker at 28 plus a F2nd. So 2 pick 30s practically for a future top 5 pick.

That was the market setting the price.

As for downplaying the value of Baker and Owies. I look forward to those guys proving the doubters totally wrong.

There's a legit draft strategy to continually trade in futures for a premium year on year. Sure you may take a bath in the first year but theoretically you will improve your draft hand every year.

Draft points are now the new top 5 picks.

If we can hold onto all our 2025 picks we have great flexibukity to trade up or down depending on our NGA kids and where they land.

Future 2nd and 3rd rounders are what you what multiple picks of. And once you build up a handful you can keep retaining them and do more deals.

Draft points are becoming much more valuable.

Makes sense for Essendon needing the KPP.
Not coming to the Eagles then .
I don’t think either of those teams above us take that deal. I think Tigers will be keen on Dodson and possibly Alger and Dogs have had their eyes on Moraes for a while.

I won’t say who my two favourite players left on the board are because last time they were both gone within 5 minutes of my post.

Richmond don't need more picks this draft either .

Essendon have offered Pick 37, 39, F2 for 28(RICH)/29(WBD)/30(WCE) and F3 to take Shanahan provided he’s available.
If we slide from 30 to 37 we will miss a target.

I'd be taking Shanahan at 30. Everyone saying we don't need another key forward, but I disagree.

Gov has a year or 2 left.
O. Allen is one injury away from missing half a season (he doesn't get niggles).
A.Reid is unknown yet.
Jamerson is shit.
H.Edwards still has to prove he can replace barrass. Maric could be good down back.
B.Williams is meh
Bazzo has to come from a long way back, big
Barnett we are now trying to turn into a defender BC he can't ruck.

I think we need one key forward and one key back this draft. Don't care if they play wafl for a year and push past the above list the year later.

2 of Shanahan, Barrett, o'farrell, Dennis, Whitlock, gerreyn.

WC better bloody take James Barratt that's all I'm saying!

Agree with all of this, deal would have to include a F1. I’d also go after 49 from Brisbane in that deal.

I'd like to take davis with next pick. The high half forward is such a critical role these days & he seems perfect for it as seems to know the right spot to run to, & isn't allergic to the goals either. Perhaps a little different in style from Cripps, but could fill that void.
There will be CHB options at 45 given Mraz, O'Farrell, Nicholls, Barrat & dennis remain.
Shanahan sounds good but unless he has the potential to play back I don't see the point.
Yeah i don't like all the shanahan talk. We're already going to try to turn bo into a mid. Just draft a backman ffs.
But hoping we get moraes, ough or davis next

For the love of god we need an accumulation midfielder, take moraes

He’s not the only decent midfielder left. I expect the Dogs to take him, but we’ll still have options, maybe even at our next pick. That plus a KPD would be perfect. Or Shanahan (best available).

Speaking of losing their mind, if you think our pick 3 trade hasn’t been taken well by our fan base, you should go and look at reaction by north fans to their own F1 trade.

Whitlock better be the 2nd coming of silvagni or Carey.
Potential top 5 pick for mid to late 20s ( lots of fs and academy picks next year and 27 I’d be loosing my mind as well
