Tbh if we keep them they disappear really turning them into F2s would be good and allow us flexibility for next year or even Keys proposal sounds like a fair exchange

Well then you are never going to see it. Until other kids gets the opportunity to develop.

We are in development mode. Not play every best player in their best position and win at all costs. We simply are not at that stage.

And if we dont expose the kids to AFL level and develop them we wont get there.

I mean its the same as people putting Oscar as a KPD, or Ryan at half back. It might be a reasonable suggestion and it might be a better fit, but I still dont see it happening in 2025

Go and see what the media will shriek about all year if we dont improve, itll be all about how we took nothing in the draft and sold it all for Baker. Is that the narrative we want the average fan to be hearing all year? Does the club want that?

Yes we know its not that simple, but thats what the headlines will say and thats what your average fan will see

I would think the media would report positively really if we end up with 4 f1s in a draft featuring multiple top level WA prospects, particularly if we work with Essendon on the Kako stuff and come away with another 2nd rounder in this draft, and especially if it turns out Allen goes before 12.

Not that the club care particularly what fans think or the media say about them. It's a non issue, most reporting I saw was fairly forgiving about the Baker situation and criticised the fans more for melting about it more than they did the club for doing it.

My friend less than 1 in a thousand Eagles '"fans" know any of those names you just said. They already know we used pick 3 on Liam Baker. And the really keen observers might have a vague idea of who Bo Allan is and expect us to take him. If he's gone by our pick and we live trade 12 and can say we have 4 first rounders next year that's 1000% more marketable to the punter than drafting Lindsey or whoever its going to be. Likely the biggest name the media focus on with this years draft hand regardless of who we pick in the main draft is going to be Malakai Champion, and he's a given no matter what we do with our draft hand from here.

But EVERY West Coast fan will understand and ask " How the hell are we rebuilding finishing 3rd last but dont even have a 1st round pick this year? Are we stupid?"

From what I took from the conversation he doesn't care if he goes to WCE or Fremantle. He will go to the team that pays him more money.

I just saw you added more here.

We are a very young side who probably doesnt have the capacity to bring in several first year players into the side at once. Half the squad is only in their first few seasons as it is.

Its a lot easier to trickle in a couple of kids each year than coming to 2026 and having potentially 3-4 new first year players who are good enough to be selected round 1.


I dont know what youre trying to say here, its a bit all over the place.
An extra 12 months into Moraes/Oliver is worth something, its not insignificant. We want to be competitive now and into the future, not just in 3 years time.

How is trading pick 12 for something suddenly equating to not trickling players through? If we take 4 players this year and 5 players next year, or 5 players this year and 4 players next year none of them are going to be getting opportunities in the firsts like we've seen for the 21-23 recruits. And that's a good thing. Some sort of effort will be made to debut them, one or two of them could get a block of games somewhere if we are decimated by injury or once finals is mathematically impossible. But for the most part we will be going back to a system of letting draftee's [even first rounders] develop in the WAFL, which is the way the system is supposed to work.

You are missing the point on Moraes/Oliver. Of course having them 12 months sooner is worth something, but all things being equal the top end of the 2025 draft is going to be a cut above pick 12. And from 2028-2035 when these things can actually be judged, having next years pick 5 in the side is most likely a better pickup than having this years pick 12 with an extra 12 months of WAFL development under his belt.

I think like a lot of people, you are just over invested in this draft and want to see your idea's for pick 12 validated. It was the same as with pick 3, endless debate about the pro's and con's of particular players in that draft range completely wasted when we swapped the pick. If we part with 12 its probably going to be a net positive in the overall scheme of the rebuild [or else why would you do it] and missing out on whatever player people like there is a non issue if we draft well with picks later in this draft and/or earlier in next years draft.

Based on absolutely nothing but a vague feeling of how these types have gone in the past (no research undertaken), Hynes sounds like a bust to me.

The versatile big-bodied mid-fwd types, if they are going to make it at AFL, are standouts at U18 level.

Although I'm sort of expecting sometime to point out the error of my argument with a few choice examples.

Here's me thinking, why would anyone say anything about last years draft once the season is underway? If we win a few home games and avoid thrashings away I'd expect Don Pyke has a statue erected at MR Park by May. Glass half full I guess.

From an article about Murphy Reid, I’m sure some of you will still claim you have sources that say he doesn’t want to go interstate and blah blah blah but I don’t get that vibe from him and I think it’s incredibly unfair to label a kid as a flight risk based on something you heard from a poster on Big Footy, lol.

“I’d embrace going anywhere really, I’d just love an opportunity. If a team is prepared to put the time and resources in to picking me, then I’d be so grateful for that and would do everything to try and make it work out. I’m happy to go anywhere,” he said.

If Hough transitions to a wing then picking up a def/mid such as Tobie Travaglia or Bo Allan makes sense. Could also use Chesser or Hunt down back or pick up Prior to fill the gap.

Hough, Graham, Hutchison and Hall to fill the wing positions.

Forward line of

Ryan - Waterman - Owies
Cripps - Allen - Brockman/Long/Hewett

with Kelly, Harley and Yeo rotating forward certainly gives us options.

Maric as Def/Mid/Fwd on the bench also gives us options to play taller forward or back.

Gives us some good options for our 2nd pick whether we go tall or small or best available. I'd still be happy to have a few more picks in the 25 to 40 range as it'd allow us to cut some dead wood next year in Sheed, Petrucelle and Cole along with those I don't think are going to make it in the longer term in Rawlinson, Dewar, Barnett/Livingstone and Johnston.

This year we had two players in the Top 5 in Finn O'Sullivan and Jagga Smith who both said they would've loved to play with Harley. Missed opportunity perhaps but we move on.

Ten of the first eleven picks are owned by 5 Melbourne based clubs - it’s not like he’s particularly at risk of having to move very far from home

That said, if he’s still undrafted when Richmond’s picks 10 and 11 roll around it might be squeaky bum time for him if he’s keen on staying home - the next 5 picks are all non-vic clubs

If he was there at our pick, I wouldn’t be upset if we took him. Back ourselves in to make him comfortable over his 3 year contract

And he’s another Reid with a surname for a first name - Harley, Archer, Murphy
