Whilst next years draft looks good from a west Aussie perspective, getting Warner could clean us out as far as getting players other than those we have first dibs on.
With this year being so deep we'd be crazy not to try to get back in at any point or split or 2nd rounder

2025 is the draft that sets us up for the 2030's I think. We should be doing everything possible to be getting Cody Curtin [Edwards replacement] and Rodreigez to go with Banfield. This draft is going to mean nothing compared to 22, 23 and 25 in the grand scheme of things. It's just not our draft.

Cody Curtin is essential for us. We badly need a KPD and he's the chosen one. According to watcher he a late first rounder prospect. Number 1 priority.

A haul of either set us up nicely
1. Cody Curtin + Fred R (Pick 2)
2. Cody Curtin + Warner

What gets tricky is if Cody Curtin rises to top 6.

Wouldn't be surprised if Rodreigez slides a bit and Curtin goes top 10, even top 5. Either way we need as many f1s as possible. I'd love Norths somehow but Melbournes for 12 off Essendon would be ok.

Bazzo? 2024 was a right offf but he got back in the final round. He needs a good preseason and game time to develop.

Jamieson the same.

Maric the same.

Harry needs to step up.

How many more tall defenders do we need to trial in 2025? That's 4 plus Gov being the general.

We draft an 18 yr old to add to the production line for tall defenders. Dennis 195cm AA CHB from WA for example. Pick in the 30 to 40 range.

Many have mentioned Barnett as a 200cm CHB.

We have plenty of options to develop. Just need to keep sifting through and find out who is good enough.

“ Write off “ is the correct term to use in that context..
Sometimes I forget to spell too the other day I wrote intermit instead of intimate ..It gets tricky ..

Best thing about Rodriguez, Curtin and Banfield next year is theyre all in positions and attributes where we really lack.

Could draft any of Allan/Travaglia/Lindsay + Oliver/Moraes/Davis + a kpd and all those guys will still be list needs

Don't think Maric needs to chug down protein powder. Wasn't he a little big and put a lot of work into slimming down to be more mobile and play AFL. I think he could naturally bulk up a little if he wanted but how it would impact his game is the question.
Yeah we've got the big bulky guys well accounted for. Marics versatility and mobility are his best attributes

It's crazy to use 2nd round picks on lock down defenders.

That is the position where failed midfielders and quality half backs who weren't quite up to it make a career.

In other words we are hoping Hough has a higher ceiling than being a good lock down defender.
Hough showed in his first season that he could play wing. Great he has made the lock down defender who can play on smalls and talls but we need to remember he has more to his artillery

A guy like Starcevich or Judd McVee coming home would free up Hough. We have just delisted a bunch of our defenders too, I dont think Hough can move up the ground in 2025

Hard to free him up without a replacement

Baker
Johnston
Cole
Duggan
Ginbey
Hunt
Yeo potentially
Chesser

That is 8 players who can all play the small / medium defender role.

We only need 4.

We add a Lindsay and or a Oliver that's two more who will need a spot to develop.

So 10 players other than Hough.

We have the depth to allow Hough to play wing. Rotate with Ginbey off a wing.

You would be wanting more that F1 Melb for 12. I would be asking for Dees F1 plus Dons F2. Or ask for both Dees and Dons F1 giving back our and Hawks F2. Cheeky but worth it.

We would then go into 2025 with 4 x F1 and 2 x F3.

Something about being in a rebuild.

You don't rebuild with 2nd round picks or pushing your 1st rounders into a heavily compromised draft next year.

You wouldn't live trade 12 for 28, 31 and 45 if who we wanted was off the board?

Also how does the compromised draft affect who's available to us in the first round if we have multiple picks there?

It's called 2 years of future picks

Sure, ask. I'd be stoked with 2 f1's for 12. Depends how much Essendon like the options at 12. Melb F1 plus a 2nd for 12 might be more realistic, would definitely offer Hawks F2 to get both F1's though.

At the end of the day we are in no rush, if we can do some more deals to cash in on the discounts you get on future picks then next year you look at the 2024 and 2025 drafts together and having 4 x 1st rounders next year will feel like a major win.

People don't seem to realise that we are going to be in a bit of a holding pattern on the rebuild now for a few years while the best 22 stabilises around our remaining 2018 stars, mature age rookies, mature age trade acquisitions, and the 2021, 2022, 2023 kids. Players drafted this year and next year are coming into a completely different environment and are going to have to bide their time until the next phase of retirements, which is post 2026 for the most part. Filling our boots next year makes more sense than this year despite claims "we're in a rebuild."
