Boxshall sounds like another Clay Hall type?
Not saying its an issue at all, we probably want at least 1 mid of that type to end up best 22 in a couple of years.

Could we get 2 picks later on? Split 26 for 2 picks in the 30s? Get Boxshall + Dennis with these 2 picks
Or what if we use a f2 to get a couple of picks in the 35-45 range. Get Dennis + Boxshall along with Lindsay + Clarke/Oliver/whoever?

I want us to be in a position where mids are requesting trades cause they can't get a game.....we never seem to be a club that has too much of anything that forces those not getting opportunity to seek greener pastures. I don't care if we have 4 inside mids fighting for 2/3 spots. Our tall brigade is about to go through this phase. We need multiple mids competing for spots.

I'm very harsh on Venables because he took jake waterman spot in 2018

Venables was not good player. In fact I go as far as saying he was trajectory was worse then chesser.

Chessser shows dash and kicking and some aggression that Venables showed nothing off. They are both equal in terms of amount of ball they find.

Venables was projecting to be a dud of a pick

Essendon might need that pick 40 depending where a Kako bid comes, but we could always wait for someone to bid on Kako before doing it to make sure.

If the Bombers need pick 40 then the 2x f2s for 28+31, then swap back 26 for ess f2+f3. End result wcef2+hawf2+26 for essf2+essf3+28+31
If they dont need 40 then something like what you described would be absolutely ideal imo.

Take Lindsay, Clarke, Barrat/Nicholls, Boxshall or something
If we like Dennis we could even split the Barrat pick for pick 40ish+a future pick, id be happy with Barrat though

You can’t use Venables as a “cooked” First Round pick. He was a very good player whose career was ended by injury. That has absolutely zero relation to our drafting/picking him.

Agreed you can’t call him a dud or anything, but very good player is a ridiculous stretch, he never had over 20 touches at any level of football.

He was a good pressure player who could’ve grown into something but that was far from guaranteed seeing how much he struggled to find the pill.

We probably dont want all 3 of those picks from the bombers unless they want to trade back with us, we have 6 list spots and we probably want a SSP + Champion, leaving 4 picks to use.

Getting any 2 of those picks from the bombers would be great. Clarke is probably there at 28 or 31 it doesnt matter which, and we could get a KPD with any of those picks

People struggle to understand that Perth is a bit of a shithole compared to Melbourne and Sydney especially, and even struggles against Brisbane.

Its got the best weather and lifestyle but I do wonder what the insane housing market has done for players considering a move west, for a young fringe player they'd be no chance of breaking into the housing market on an afl basic wage. Kinda crazy, few years ago it'd of been a smart move coming over here and setting up shop but nowadays might as well just continue to rent in Melbourne.

You would think the essendon swap would be our future 2nd for 28 + 31 then after they take Kako we trade them 26 for their future 2nd .

We then live trade hawks future 3rd for a 40s pick that way we don't lose it to a champion bid .

Leave us with 12 28 31 40s pick and champion

Then next season our 1st , hawks 1st , ess 2nd , hawks 2nd , our 3rd

Judging by what Harley has said over a number of pods sounds like Gilbee is a bit of a nightmare housemate, seems like BSD Harley is basically his mum. Might just of been time for Harley to end his teenage share house phase and get himself his own digs, sending the Milk Man back to his own mum in country Victoria. I'm sure they had a blast for 12 months but seems Harley's a bit of a neat freak and those kinds like to have their own space. Wouldn't read too much into it so far as prospects of Harley staying or going, could easily be a positive for us.

And I can unequivocally say that you couldn't pay me enough to ever live in Sydney again. During my time in Sydney I lived in double bay, Maroubra, Lidcombe and oatley. There were days where it took me longer to get from Maroubra into the city than it did from Oatley to Lidcombe. As far as dysfunctioning rat races go with unfriendly 'look at me look at me kimmy' people it's one of - if not the worst of the 34 cities I've lived in.

As for Perth, you just can't beat it. There isn't a city on the planet that offers the lifestyle that Perth does. A few kind of come close, San Diego, Miami, and Rio de jenero spring to mind, except for the muggings drugs, cartels and shootings!!

Luckless West Coast midfielder Elijah Hewett is set for day one of pre-season after his 2024 season was ruined by a serious feet injury.

Hewett, 20, did not play at all this year after he had surgery on a sesamoiditis injury in March, before being ruled out just before his expected return in July with a minor bone stress in his foot.

It was a blow for the developing Eagles, with Hewett one of the bright sparks of a dismal 2023 season when he played 14 promising games having been drafted with pick No.14 in 2022.

Hewett battled sesamoiditis — a pre-existing injury he had before he was drafted — for much of the pre-season and even went to Melbourne to consult a specialist physiotherapist at the Australian Ballet before the Eagles’ bit the bullet and put him in for surgery.

The Swan Districts product is one of several West Coast players who have been working with strength and conditioning coach Corey Green out of the Athletic Institute in Wangara.

Hewett’s expected return is an early positive for the start of the Andrew McQualter

era which officially begins at West Coast on Monday when the new coach is joined by the young Eagles at first day of pre-season on Monday.

McQualter will front he media for only the second time as the Eagles’ seventh full-time coach after being appointed as the successor for Adam Simpson in late September.

The former Richmond caretaker coach will have the next generation of West Coast on the track with No.1 draftee Harley Reid to begin his first full pre-season at Mineral Resources Park.

It could give a strong glimpse into the Eagles’ future with Reid and Hewett set to be a strong part of the rebuild under McQualter who has already indicated he wants to build a gameplan based on pace which both aren’t short of.

Reid had an incredible first 20 games in the AFL off a shortened pre-season and will return from Victoria where he spent the off-season as an ambassador for Victorian racing.

The pair of explosive midfielders will be joined by fourth-year midfielder Campbell Chesser who is out of contract and looking for a big season.

Chesser, 21, played a career-best 18 games last season but was subbed out three time and averaged only 11 disposals with a season-best of 16 against Greater Western Sydney in round three.

A first-round draftee in 2021, injury and form has restricted the midfielder in his first three seasons but will want to be a crucial part of the midfield under McQualter.

Midfielder Coby Burgiel is set to be a train-on at the Eagles after he was delisted having not played an AFL game in two seasons because of persistent hamstring injuries.

Sources told The West Australian that Burgiel — who was drafted with pick 29 in 2022 — is a strong chance to be redrafted either as a rookie or through the pre-season supplemental selection period.

Definitely not outside the top 10. Hindsighting the 2009 draft, Fyfe, Gunston, Duncan and Gawn would go before him but Morabito, Trengrove, Cunnington and probably Scully would be lower.

Venners ceiling was nowhere near that of Shuey but he was on a slow burn to a 10 year, 200 game, solid best 15 career.

I never really thought he was ever considered slow, maybe doesn't have elite speed but he's zippy enough and has good agility. He'll always find space.

Big difference between "ready for pre season" and making it through an actual pre season.

Stoked for Hewett but I'm definitely running on low expectations. We've heard he's turned corners with his injuries before and then vanished off the face of the planet.

Pre seasons and staying on the park injury free can't be any more important for all our young players.
