Ginbey himself has written himself off as a midfielder and that's from his own mouth. Mini has him training as a defender.

Doesn't have the smarts/craft and who cares because more than happy with him back there, looks way more natural.
I thought that the comment was for the coming season not for good.

Besides, when Ginbey went back in the second part of the 2024, he looked so much more comfortable and confident. He reminded me a lot about Yeo. When Yeo came across from Brisbane (where he had been playing hbf), he was older yet still took another 2-3 season to start to look good as a midfielder.

Can't say I'm liking this talk about Berry.

Small forward isn't "a glaring need" despite what that dumb article thinks.

Schlong, Ryan, Dewar, Cripps, Brockman, Rawlinson, Champion, as well as Baker if we really want... Then there's Wes Walley next year we well.

Ditto Hannaford, although that's at least easier to stomach if it's with our 2nd selection.

100% this DS you beautiful campaigner you.
We have a midfield that needs some serious Mr Sheen.
Let's not dilute the pick by taking a cherry on top small forward. Please BOND 007. Tell Duane no thanks.

Berry is more of a high half forward than just being described as a small forward.

So in essence a half forward who provides run, carry and a link from the midfield kicking inside the forward 50 and also kicks goals.

And Hannaford is of the same ilk. Not just a small forward.

Yep. The Yeo comparison is apt. Ginbey will still find his way to the midfield but playing him behind the ball should give his him a better foundation than what he has had to date (which he has done remarkably well with given he was thrown to the wolves from day 1).

We would be better off taking Shanahan if there are no decent mids left, or trading the pick

After reading some of the views around Ginbey you'd think we bought a second hand car with doctored mileage. The kid's played two seasons, just turned twenty, built like a brick shi*house, loves a contest and is coming on in leaps and bounds......backline or midfield, just play him, could be anything in a couple of years.

Ginbey doesn't even need to make it as a mid if Hewett comes on and we draft this year and next year accordingly, it's just the unknown of the Hewett lost development that's piling the anxiety layers on hardcore.

FWIW, I see Ginbey as being a career HB who will rotate through the middle at times as needed.

If Travaglia, Lindsay and Allan are gone at our first pick, I’d be trading it to North for their future first.

Would then just use the Hawks future first and our future second to get back into the latter stages of the first round, we could still potentially land Murphy Reid or Taj Hotton by doing that.

Would give us an incredible hand next year in a super strong top end. Would be weary of Sydney asking for both firsts if we pursue Warner but hopefully we’re smart enough to just offer one.

I’m more comfortable with moving Barnett or Reid down back then even thinking of a KPD this year. If we draft a KPD we may as well delist Jamieson and take Prior as DFA at this stage
Is prior really that good ?
With all Brisbane's injuries to HBFers last season he didn't even get a look in .

I think he is a decent state league player at best .

We don't have too bad list of distributors from defence if you move maric back and it looks like who ever we draft at 12 TT /X Lindsay/Bo Allen will cut their teeth off the HBF .

B cole Hedwards Hough
HB duggan Gov Ginbey

Pick12

Rotating yeo maric Hunt .

We may even have chesser move back also

Baker has been bought in and coach has said he will play there also.

Didn’t realise I’d need to specify that cost is crucial in player acquisition and if it’s too high that I’d rather the player not be at the club. Be great to have Bontempelli, Daicos and Cripps in our midfield but we can’t afford them all can we.

Baker DID actually say he’s not coming unless Richmond are well compensated. Also poor that he didn’t show up to training after the club moved heaven and earth to get him in, particularly when Richmond’s season ended when ours did. His B&F performance also didn’t scream quality, I don’t care how many beers he had.

Thoroughly unimpressed so far regardless of price. Even more unimpressed when cost is factored in, as it should be with any player acquisition.
Any decent person who has spent time at a club could and might say something similar. He was always leaving like TB was.

I agree and enjoy your posts generally, but your take on this one is playing the man and not the ball.

Correct, to say Berry is a just a small fwd is wrong. He has some similar traits to Lecras. Hopefully if we pick him he ends up somewhere near the Frenchman’s levels.

Murphy Reid would be the best available mid left at our pick.
If he's gone (or we don't rate him) and Lindsay is also gone, we'd be stuck between selecting the next best available in Shanahan, Berry and Hotton, unless we trade down/split the pick.
Slow mids often slide, so not a surprise if Murphy is the only one left without big question marks injury wise (Hotton).
Hynes and Moraes would be considered too big a reach at our 1st pick. Would happily take either in the 20's if we split.

Worrying times...

If Clancy had run he’d be under that, but that’s still a bloody good time for a 197cm KPP. Didn’t realise he was that strong of a runner. What do you think of his defensive craft? Can’t see us developing him in the forward line.
My understanding is every club is looking at him as a defender
He is a good field kick but a weak set shot at goal and that's his major weakness
as a forward

For a Jack Billings type no less as well. It's really hard to say who's going to excel at that role at AFL level.

Not getting a game for the AFL premiers isnt really a knock if you ask me.

I also wouldnt pigeon hole him as a HB. Would be happy to try him off a wing knowing he would be more prepared and up for it then say Clay Hall who we had play it for a bit....
