And now they're ****ed for at least the next 4 years.

Good luck developing/keeping players in a system where you're forced to play the kids ahead of time and they get smashed week after week, year after year, especially when they're playing in an empty MCG.

We've seen how quickly their supporters drop off when they go bad

They'll be jerkin' the gherkin over this draft and trade period but it's going to take half a decade, and likely multiple head coaches, to turn that turd around.
If Richmond are ****ed for the next 4 years even considering their crop of young talent is 3x what ours is then how long as we ****ed for?

Did hanging on to all of our old and overpaid players over the last 4 years do anything to turbo charge the development of our early draft picks like Chesser, Ginbey, Barnett, Burgiel etc?

What Richmond have done pretty much guarantees they will come out of this on otherside of the next 3 - 4 years primed for a new period of success, as opposed to what we have done which has condemned us to a likely decade with no finals by the time we finally get back into the 8 again.

Sounds like there's enough interest in drafting back in between Essendon & Geelong that we could still get seat on this ride.
Anything that involves a F1 in & an F2 out, plus a small slide back in this year's draft would be massive.
3 x 1 rounders next year gives us a crack at Warner + Freddy, particularly given we can also use 2026 1st in trade.
And 2027 1st too remember. 2 yrs in advance future trading starts next year. That's why I'd prefer to trade into this year's draft and take maximum value.

With both Jack Whitlock and Shanahan available and Doggies looking set for Moraes, IF Tigers bail out and sell to the Drug Rats, will the Cats come a crawling to us?

They will likely offer up their F1 and they hold picks 42, 50 and 70. I would take Cats F1 + 42 for 30. Would they want Hawks F3? Maybe and I might relent.

I would go for GWS 36 and offer Hawks F2 and 68 to cover Logan points.

Leaves us with:
36 42 44 and Champion - covers Nicholls/O'Farrell plus Boxshall/Johnson/Hayes plus Barrat/Ough

Next year 3 x F1 and 1 x F2 and 2 x F3

We get the KPP in Cody Curtin next year with one of Hawks or Cats R1 (after we get Rodriguez or equivalent top end with our R1)

So in the end we got...

Pretty good haul overall.

So.. pick 3 got us
Bo Allan
Liam Baker
Matt Owies
Tom Gross

Not bad... :thumbsu:

Pretty incredible haul given the circumstances, ending up with 4 recognised talents.
Allan
Shanahan
Gross
Davis
(Champion)
And also maybe a hidden gem in Grego.

Also a pretty massive relief that no one bid on Champion.
Allowed us to have the option of a train on player.
We came in with only 2 decent picks and a late one to potentially use to match Champion, and came out with 5 players + Champion.

What I really enjoyed about the draft and what really kinda took away the sting of trading back from pick 3 is all our picks besides Grego were all picks that should've been gone long before we got them. Gross at 46 when Fox had him ranked 33, Davis at 65 when he was ranked 30, Shanahan 30 when ranked 19 and Allen at 16 when people had phantom drafts of him going anywhere between 7 and early teens.

Overall a very good outing, obviously doesn't guarantee anything but I'm just glad with a new coach and a fresh coat of paint we can finally start moving forward.

Not bad from the Eagles... Got a good mix of players with power and athletic ability.

Not super skillful... But hopefully skills and composure can be taught..

The Davis pick is probably the best for night 2... seems a gun... Shanahan ok(not really a list requirement though)

It does none of those things.

Their 'marquee' signing(Balta) finished 11th in their BnF and 3 of their top 5, including the winner, all left the club.

The rest of their decent senior players are pretty much all either approaching 30, or the wrong side of it.

There's also zero guarantee this draft hall will set them up for anything, considering they had something similar in the draft they took Tambling over Franklin.

Started with picks 3,23,63 plus a bunch of picks from R5 and beyond (before FA compo picks)

Traded out Barrass and Darling along with our F3 and F4 picks

Brought in -
Jack Graham (FA)
Liam Baker
Matt Owies
Bo Allan
Jobe Shanahan
Tom Gross
Lucca Grego
Hamish Davis

The decision to trade pick 3 will forever be controversial as will the trade of pick 14 for Baker but our draft haul has gone a long way to balancing that ledger

And we have the 2025 R1,2&3 picks belonging to Hawthorn who we get to death ride next year

Well done WCE_phil BOND 007 and company
