AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Great post as I am also not only concerned about lack of talent in SANFL team but in 2 games I saw their game plan if not awful then the team does not know how to play it , with more intent of getting into spaces or going for tackle than attacking the ball or creating positive attacks.
Yes a lack of talent occurred due to all your points in 1 and we kept players should not have kept.
Porps - L Thompson - McKernan -- Johnston.- Graham. How ordinary have they been.
Plus kids we selected as rookies have not become players we expected apart from Charlie and play like 1 st year rookies, and low selections over last 2 years
Atkins -- Siggins and Knight have shown why they were low draft picks and offered very little .
Looks like Port picked up a lot better extra players that nobody else required .
I agree. I don't think the rookies and draftees are the issue. In fact I'd have to say that having watched all of the Reserves games, the supposedly experienced players haven't pulled their load. They seem too focused on their own game to bring those younger players into it. Seems to be a major case of lack of leadership. They just don't play as a team.Bit tough on a couple of players there in Luke Thompson who has been playing good footy in the Snaffle and also did alright last year when he came in for an injured Talia, Atkins is showing enough in the SANFL this year to suggest he's at least a chance and FFS Riley Knight is a first year player...and for that matter young Jake Kelly and Battersby have been good too!! Even Spina has shown glimpses.
Hopefully Crouchy goes back and racks up 35+
I'm hoping for 65 touches. Too much?
Hes capable of itNot fit enough. Won't be able to lift him arms.
Not fit enough. Won't be able to lift him arms.
Hes capable of it
Slower pace will suit him nicely. It's not his arms that get tired anyway. Leg cramps remember.
I suspected, sorry you haven't done much joking recentlyIt was a joke.
It could have easily been the Crows.Yep Port have gone from junk to powerhouse by luck
Not too sure if posters alone (myself included) are the final word on this. The facts are there is only 1 SANFL player in our squad (Callinan) where as port have substantially more than this.Nah. That has been misproven by posters from both sides.
Sounds as if Port have gelled as a team more, or perhaps quicker, than the Crows reserves and we've had a good run with injuries.
On top of that it doesn't look as if there is a standout side in the SANFL this year.
One thingamajig does not a summer make and a handful of rounds is not long enough to say that a model is or isn't good.
What will happen once a number of very good SANFL players are let go by both Port and the Crows?
Take a few of those away from the Magpies and suddenly everything changes. That could be as soon as this year.
For mine it's got nothing to do with models as sometimes things just are and shouldn't be over analysed.
I'm not comparing to the Crows, that's not my point. Port are good this year because of the system not because you are Port. Port without this leg up were shit.It could have easily been the Crows.
Three or four years back we would have been struggling to get enough players on the pitch because of our injuries. What will happen if say Renouf and Logan retire, Heath, Stewart and More ask to be traded for better opportunities and we have a couple of injuries? I am sure you could do a similar scenario for the Crows.
It will take more than a year or two to see what sort of impact the AFL teams have on the SANFL. From an AFL perspective both teams need their reserves in one team and the old system put both of our teams at a disadvantage Vs Geelong, Hawthorn and the other AFL teams.
Not true! Look at the AFLIts not our fault per se...... but its obvious people dont want to support a competition that is compromised.
I think you need some of the earlier posts regarding top up players as what you have posted is not quite correct, also this is the first year and it's way too early to know what the best long term arrangements will be.Not too sure if posters alone (myself included) are the final word on this. The facts are there is only 1 SANFL player in our squad (Callinan) where as port have substantially more than this.
How many amateurs do you have playing this week? 6 have been named for the Crows with 1 dropping out to make way for our emergency.
Also I wouldn't think our injury count is currently too high (5) so for us this is par for the course.
