Apparently they've been trialling this in the VFL during the year, firstly with microchipped balls to ensure that the ball behaves the same way with a chip installed. At a couple of games I've been to this year they've had sensors mounted along the boundary which I think was part of the testing phase.

It would have to be pretty unsuccessful in the AFLW to not see it implemented in the mens season next year

I haven't heard of any issues resulting from its use in the VFL, so I can't forsee any issues in the AFLW. Then again this is the first time they'll be incorporating it into the score review (which the VFL doesn't have.)
No transparency with this microchip thing. Cost us a win today
Code Sports reporting the AFL got it wrong and will make a statement tomorrow (from the limited info I've seen).

Why don’t they use videos like they use for AFLM? They video all the games anyway and if it can’t be certain to overturn the decision then they go with umpires call. Very straightforward

The AFL has contacted Collingwood and Gold Coast regarding a score overruled due to new in-ball technology

In other words, it's still in the development phase and not ready for official match use.
The AFL then needs to scrap it if it is not 100% accurate. With this one and then the dodgy one against Carlton in Mackay, it has cost us two wins and we would be higher up the ladder and still a chance for finals instead of dead last.
