I think it's hard to judge individuals on that game. We were under so much pressure that no one played well.

I think a lot can be learnt from hawthorns hand balling. The minute they got the ball the hand pass was almost immediate. Was very hard to stop.

My concern next week is if we have no Walters or Mayne. Pav will be alone up there with ballas and they will triple team him like always. Normally it would be ok as Fyfe and Barlow would float through there

I think bringing a Hannath or tabs into the forward line just brings in a passenger as they get towelled up.

Would love to see the freo pressure back as that can beat anyone. Bugger the extra 2 goals

Rock, Paper, Scissors

Rock - Geelong hard at it for a number of years smashing through teams again and again.
Paper - Fremantle.... completely smother opposition and envelope the rock of geelong .
Scissors - Hawthorn... precise kicking cuts through opposition like butter and shreds Fremantle paper.... but gets smashed on the rock of geelong.

Time for a change. Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock and we're Spock.

Im having flashbacks to my Year 12 footy days. Everyone was too crap to follow a game plan so the coach told us to do the only thing we could understand.

Problem with man on man is 1 weak link in the chain gets exposed - Jack Hannaths lack of pace comes to mind if the ball went over the back of a 1-1 contest

I agree but we have to do something with our Game Plan at the GEE. It is too wide for our rolling zone and it gets cut straight through. Reminds me of the Eagles 2011 and their forward press. Worked on every ground except the MCG and it got found out.

we need a strategy rethink against hawthorn. How many times did they just stroll into space all along the wing with no one from Fremantle manning them up and then they just chip it along. They wont be able to do that later in the year at subiaco and their game plan will go to shit. But it's the mcg that matters in the end and we need a different plan for that ground.

The new stadium will help as it's almost exactly the same dimensions as the mcg intentionally but we're a few years away from that.

Sheridan,Neale and Crosier cant all play in the midfield at the same time
Last night our midfield became run of the mill, undersized, understrength and lacking run.
None of them ran hard enough into defense and attack to help out, something that Fyfe and Barlow excell at
I dont think they took a defensive mark between the 3 of them and Crosier managed a forward mark when the heat was of in the final quarter
They also failed to help out in the forward half making it to easy to cover Balla,Sonny and Mayne
None of them managed to trouble the scorer.
Without Fyfe and Barlow down there with their big bodies helping out it became easy to triple team Pav. De Boer needs to return to a fulltime defensive forward and Crowls needs to go back to full time tagger.
Clancee,Clark,Dawson and Sylvia (if he plays well today) have to come in for Ibbo,Sheridan,Crosier and Hannath
We need their size and strength.

Normally a game plan relies on winning somewhere near 50% of the inside ball.
The ball then moves forward putting pressure in the opposition, causing their structures to falter.

When that doesn't happen and you're constantly under pressure from a team with beautiful footskills, it's difficult.
Take away the glue of the defence (Dawson), the two best ball winning midfielder we have who also happen to be great defensively and we're in strife.

We couldn't get enough ball control, no pressure on them going forward, allowing them to beable to spread and cut us with the footskills

PS how many arsey bouncing along the ground goals can one team kick in a game? i'd reckon the Hawks kicked 5-6 goals like that last night. Some times its just not your day.
Yep. No impact on the game but every little bloody bounce went their way! When it rains it pours.

I might try a different drinking game today - I'll go read the MB matchday thread and every time I see a gloating post from a smug Hawthorn supporter I'll have a beer.

I've informed my family where I would like my body to be buried, just in case.

Don't read the Hawthorn board or your liver will assplode in about 10 minutes.

The problem is in the midfield.

De Boer - unreliable, goes missing

Suban - unreliable, goes missing.

Sheridan and Crozier - both no impact (to be expected to some degree).

Mzungu - reliant on inside grunt, see: (De Boer, Suban et al).

Hannath is just not very good - a young player who needs more experience and a better football brain. Is below Clarke and Griffin in the pecking order.

ETC ETC

The whole team besides Hill + Pav is having a stinker. Neale is playing decent too, if you consider his team-mates are getting thrashed.

Look at our draw from now on. We need to fix these problems fast. Essendon next week, a team we have not played well against (and Lyon has never beaten here or at St Kilda IRRC). Then Sydney, North + WC.
We need big, experienced bodies who can accumulate possessions. Sylvia better be ready by next week.

Lets get one thing straight due to suspension and injury the A Team wasn't there accepted but we were killed because of the fumbling ,missed targets by hand and foot as well as SPEED .
Hawthorn played as good a brand of footy we have seen ,second to none and we are left with questions .
Answers will be found but lesson must be learnt or we gain nothing .
The new game in town is clean and precise in disposal and spread to get clear off your opponent thus creating space in the forward line .
Last night Hawthorns outside runners were faster than ours ,there skill was of a higher quality than ours and there spread made us look slow .
Their backs gave our forwards a lesson in swarming defence and we have to work out how to combat their tactics or no matter how many games we win we will not have a premiership flag this season or any other season .

Ross was given a lesson last night but he will learn from it and not make the same mistake again . That's why I like the guy so much , he is willing to undergo the same scrutiny as the players and he will make changes to the list and the tactics .

Wow isn't it interesting how quick West Coast fans forget.

One of the many from their board :

"Comical how over rated Freo are. Absolute spuds on every line, zero depth and an inbred culture of utter pathetic failure"

Their going to be very cocky until they play a real team next week. Then they will go back to being their usual selves. "Sack Woosha, Why isn't Hutchings getting a game, Bring on Shred etc....?"

They can only play so many bottom 8 sides for so long and then they get found out.

Have a good look at the team last night, forward line and midfield were lacking. Pavlich needs another Tall partner to mark, help bring the ball
to ground for our smalls to crumb. Midfield lacked size, skill, speed.
We were up against a quality, hardened unified team, then add X factor with their indigenous stars.
Improving our team? Sylvia, Clarke, C Pearce, Griffen, Keplar, Moro, Silva, and I would like to see Simpson as the sub sometime soon.
If Hawthorn can turn Lake around, why cant we do the same with Silvagni? Swingman written all over him.

The club just posted pictures from their Vic members function up on Facebook. The boys all seem relaxed and happy. Hopefully that means that have moved on from last night.

In the back line yes, he wont take Dawson's spot, but he can play forward/back, and will give a contest, try his guts out, something that was
missing last night.

Silvagni has been tried in the forward line with dismal results. He is a depth backliner and a good, solid WAFL player.

Way, way overrated by some on here.
