he has a great kick, it's easy to get mesmerized by one or two good plays then forget about his overall performance. Occasionally he puts in a 4 quarter game, but I don't think he has ever reached anything close to 30 possessions, and no more than 25 recently.

He often goes missing.

Verbatim De Boer. Gets destroyed often in his defensive forward role (birchall killed him down in Tasmania last year IRRC). No real attacking skills and not an accumulator.
Suban will probably get 25 and 3 next week, then get subbed out before half time against the Swans. One of the more frustrating players in our lineup.

I should clarify that I was just hoping for MORE. I don't think de Boer played badly - he was probably one of our best tacklers like he usually is. It's just that with Fyfe and Micky out, I thought they would get more of the ball and show something in the middle.

Who was De Boer playing on?

Does anyone know his role for tonight?

I heard Lyon say pre-game that he was expecting him to "roll through the midfield" IE he was playing an attacking, possession gathering role. Well he didn't get many possessions if so. Neither did Mundy but Mundy has credit to escape criticism: De Boer however, has big question makes over his future role (if there is one). He needed to perform.

Both, in the face of a pretty serious injury list themselves they were awesome. Scary how impotent our forwards looked against what is a pretty shitting looking defence ON PAPER. Mayne has had a shocking start to the season.
But with a longer break and no travel the personnel is not as important.

Only watched two and a half quarters. Deboer was in the middle early on. I think Mundy had a tag so we needed the others to step up.

It really does beg the question if we have the cattle & the gameplan to take the Hawks at the G. They have much better players to bring too.

The game plan was off l reckon for this game, the structure was off. We definitely have the cattle.

Honestly, we'd need a full list to choose from, as few players as possible carrying niggles with the rest full fit, a good start against them for once and a fair bit of luck mixed in. Hope it's not too pessimistic an outlook but this year at least I feel we'll need everything to go our way to win against them.

To make it worse we only have one more game at the G, and if we make the granny again it'll very likely be the last game until then too.

I was really looking forward to seeing our full team vs theirs to expose any structural weaknesses. Now we'll never know if this was a result of personnel or structural weaknesses in our team. Luckily we play them twice this year before any potential finals match.

Hopefully this was just the perfect storm where everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, went wrong.

That one aberration each season that all teams seem to have. And it won't, or couldn't possibly, happen again.

Fly home; dust ourselves off; rehab; move on; win next week.

If Mayne and Walters are added to the injury list as well as Ibbo we start to have some serious personnel issues.

Especially quality ones. Walters looked like he was going to have a breakout year access Barlow :(

All with the toughest part of our draw in the next few weeks.

Will be a tough ride

Lyon said in the presser that this game was similar to the Round 14 game against Geelong last year. Interesting, very interesting.

Ross Lyon game plan relies on pressuring the ball carrier to effect the kick.

It just doesn't work against Hawthorn. Their kicking is too good.

The pressure just wasn't there tonight though, especially when you consider pressure starts in the midfield.

We applied the pressure in the GF though and could easily have won. It wasn't the gameplan that let us down that day.

Meanwhile they remain the only team we have never beaten under Ross Lyon.

Chill out guys, you were average yes, but ANY team missing their best 2 midfielders in fyfe and Barlow were always going to be average. Write this game off and look towards the future. I have no doubt that the return bout in subi and September will give a much better indication where both teams are at.

Forget and move on, on a Plus side camel toe and hill were both great.

See you guys when it matters ;)

hang on.

You don't know who he played on or where he played, but you can still bag the shit out of him?

Interesting.

Well, it should have been obvious during the first quarter that we weren't playing our game plan. RTB obviously not giving anything away as to how far we have progressed against the real main competition this year. You could easily tell by the half-arsed pressure and chasing that occurred.

Hopefully we will return to full pressure footy next week, and Hawks become extremely complacent. But alas we do have another game against them during the H&A, R21 - our position on the ladder will dictate how we approach that game. Til then bring back our pressure (Fyfe and Barlow at some point would be nice too).
