I'm not disputing that at all. Just that clubs wanting a marquee match and assuming it'll instantly be a big hit. It won't. You can't just put a name on a game and suddenly have it take off.

I think it will be a big hit just simply as their is no other game on and the football public have been starved of footy on Good Friday.

Not worried that Port never pushed for it but these melbourne centric stand alone fixtures are pretty tiresome

Has to be a Victorian fixture due to the link with the RCH appeal which is a massive thing in Victoria on Good Friday.

Do the SANFL play matches on Good Friday?

It's all but confirmed for next year. As long as the gimmicks are tossed aside and the game is handled with maturity then all will be well, attaching charities to the game is a nice touch. Mainly, it will be nice to actually do something on Good Friday for once.

It's coming. Nothing surer. Doesn't fuss me either way to be honest. I don't desperately need a game of footy on every public holiday, and it doesn't bother me to play next Friday.

Too many though are wedded to "tradition" - because it was always done a certain way, that somehow makes it a compelling argument. It isn't.

No need too when you get a show down -two team town

NSW and QLD people when was NRL introduced on Good Friday?

Was their an uproar when it happen or were people ok with it?

There are countless ways for the AFL to encorporate & donate to the RCH appeal, to say it has to be a Victorian fixture is debatable

Not sure on the SANFL good friday stance

Edit: I think there is a SANFL game on this Good Friday, not sure how long it's been going on

I can't understand how not doing anything is considered a tradition.

It's more the fact that the RCH appeal affects and dominates every Victorian on Good Friday. 15 hour TV telethon, tin rattlers on every street corner and everyone knows someone who has been in the RCH, they provide great care and the appeal is great.
Harsh...but if the game was in S.A the money raised wouldn't be nowhere near as much as an Etihad/Victorian teams involved game....

Left of field idea......could we do a double header at Etihad on Good Friday or is that biting off more then we could chew?

Blues v North
then
Dogs v Saints

IMO, religion should have no place in governing any rules, regulations, policies, laws etc. at any level in any organisation - whether that's national, international, state or local level. Protecting someones right to follow a religion is a different story in terms of laws - as is the case if an organisation is inherently religious like Anglicare or something like that when looking at it from a pure policy/rule making point of view.

My point is that no religious group - regardless of its following - should have any influence over when/where/how an event occurs. We live in such a multicultural and diverse country, that deciding on how something happens based on the views of one religion or religious groups is just plain backwards.

Good Friday Football shouldn't be a problem, but then the whole concept of a public holiday designated for one religion seems bizarre to me anyway :thumbsu:

Does it have to be two victorian teams? Does it have to be a stand alone? why can't there be a game on in another state?

Something like this would be good:

Thurs night - 1 game
Friday - 2 games
Sat - 3 games
Sunday - 2 games
Monday - 1 game

Yeah something like that would be ideal. The AFL probably struggle with crowds on Easter Sat & Sun as people are away or visiting family

I think in the past some have suggested an "All stars" or state of origin on Good Friday?

Scheduling wise this would be tough and near possible? players would need to play for their own club that weekend so idea has to be canned

Or Easter becomes a 'bye' round for the clubs.

Too early in the season to have a league wide bye round though.

Easter Tuesday game in Hobart.

North Melbourne v best non Vic side from previous year.

Easter Tuesday what timeslot?

If day game it is great for tassie people but majority of aussies are back at work and would struggle to watch it?
