The Arrogance is really starting to grind my gears

I consider people that barrack for teams that aren't Geelong to be arrogant. How dare they! I can remember my first awareness of it at primary school as a little tyke. I'd heard my Dad talk about teams like Collingwood, Richmond, Essendon. But I thought they were just there for Geelong to play against. I didn't realize anyone actually supported them.

Not sure why you are worried. Insecure? Most neutral experts including coaches & captains of Collingwood's most hated rivals including Chris Judd view Collingwood as the benchmark. I'm certain that any club that had lost 2 games in their last 26 games including a premiership would be confident of their standing in the game.

Speaking of arrogance, did anyone see the article about Swan getting woken up again at 6am for a drug test this morning then complaining about it on twitter?

Well if he stopped his smart arsed tweets about the drug testers not being able to catch him, maybe they might leave him alone - but alas he tweeted again today that he is "too clever" for them to catch him.

Tool.

Yeah I am not sure too many of us are worried to be honest.

But then again, you would think that supporters any team that boast only 14 losses from their last 100 games including 2 flags from 3 attempts would be arrogant too...... :D

As would a team that has lost just 14 of its last 108 games, wouldn't you say?

Most footy 'experts' refer to "Collingwood and Geelong" in the same breath as both teams are clearly the benchmark at this point in time.

Ross Lyon, Leigh Matthews, Paul Roos, Chris Judd, James Hird, John Worsfold & co (there are many more) have stated in the last few weeks that Collingwood soley are the benchmark. No mention of Geelong. Even your own coach has stated that Collingwood is the benchmark, not sure why you are insecure about it.

I'm not insecure. I'm perfectly comfortable with the fact that my team is 12-0 and on top of the ladder, despite being underdogs and having already defeated Collingwood this season.

Dont waste your breath mate, its falling on deaf ears......

:thumbsu:

Too true, just ask yourself this:
Dt is accusing geelong Fans of being insecure yet he is the one who is scouring the geelong board for something that may be denigrating to Collingwood Mmm. Further to this he already has the info of who reckons Collingwood are the benchmark (various media personalities and coaches).

Could be insecure or maybe just had this info anyway.
for what it's worth i actually think the pies are slightly ahead, but hey benchmark or pacesetter, out and out favourite doesn't get you across the line.
truth is there are three maybe four teams who wouldn't surprise this year and i have a feeling we are right in it up to our necks.

P.S. It was only a couple of years ago pies fans kept telling anyone who wanted to listen, they were the only team who could beat the Cats.
I think now they are genuinely worried about this bunch from Corio bay.

Come on people have we not learned that if you discuss other teams on our board in this fashion you don't get the intelligent opposition supporters of which there are many! you only get the trolls and the knobs.

That is why I only discuss football with unbiased football supporters who actually know a bit about the game. Some of my closest mates (Geelong fans included) I refuse to discuss football with them.
For too long I have been sucked in to Geelong haters and tall poppies bagging Geelong at every opportunity, and have taken the bait and bagged back to the determent of my football knowledge.
At the moment Collingwood are the benchmark until somebody takes that premiership cup away from them.

Their are certain supporters that wear poo and wee colours that feel the need to get on any football related website and mention 2008. Now, I don't understand, I have never felt the need to look backwards and have a go at Port supporters or Saints supporters. I enjoy what this club has done over the last 5 years, but personally would rather look forward rather than backwards. Maybe they think their club has no future?

:Dexcellent opinion 97...am pretty surprised he's feeling a little targeted at the moment considering some of his away tweets recently.
You wouldn't be surprised at all if Eddie comes out sometime soon and waves his magic finger and declares "Thou shalt not awake my players before 6am!"

You can rest assured no more drug tests will apply at Collingwood. Collingwood suggest Swan is really out of form but one can argue it is largely due to the improvement of Ball, Thomas and Pendlebury whom are finding the ball before he is. Can't all have a 35+ game, only gotta look at us and take away one gun midfielder before it eventually evens up again.

hate Dale Thomas  skinny mid sized runt will cop a fairly heavy knock sometime soon because of his fixation for sherrin throwing at a players head. The manor in which he celebrates a goal & eventual overzealous celebration to the opposition he just did it too (aka the Didak swagger), and the somewhat irritable manor he conducts himself in believing he's quite the looker too the ladies:p

Ahh'... hopefully Selwood can again prove himself to these type of players come September.

Yeah exactly - everyone knows if you kick a hornets nest you eventually will get stung.
I wonder if they have found something in his tests which is another reason for why they keep re-testing him.....

I think it's standard practise for them to drug test a player upto 3 times in the space of a week? I guess if they get tested as soon as they get back they think they're clear to pump it through thinking no more tests. Sounds like the AFL suspect some players have tested and they are now going about making sure they keep an eye on things, not suggesting Collingwood at all but wonder why some teams have so far been getting a heap of tests

This is true, but having supporters continuesly comming out and saying "We are only in second gear" and "We expected to be 7-4 or 8-3 at this stage because it's been planned all along to peak at round 16 +" with "No one will get near us in september, yes we are that good and better than Geelong ever were" thrown in for good measure, it gets very annoying after a while.

I personally think Geelong are travelling better at the moment. We have has tough hard wins against very good opposition. Have they?? Winning tough close games makes you better for finals.

It shits me to tears when they say "we are only in second gear". You can't just flick a switch when the finals come around. Teams don't have gears anyway, it's the intensity and pressure that opposition teams apply and don't apply. When a team comes out and plays 2 quaters of high pressure high intensity football and the game is close, and all of a sudden that drops off in the third, then a good team will see that drop off and go in for the kill. It's not a "super gear".

Lets see if Collingwood can get out of "second gear" against a team that applys pressure for 4 quarters. A team like Geelong...

I agree. I remember actually sticking up for Port supporters in the Bay in the week after the grand final when they were copping crap from Crow fans. I think the reason we don't hang crap on Saints or Power fans is because it wasn't that long ago that we were in their shoes, so we can understand what they're feeling to an extent.

I don't really think Pies fans, on the whole, are as bad as Hawks fans were post-2008. I find it strange that whenever a Hawks fan posts something and a Geelong fan disagrees with it, in the Hawks fan's mind, it's because the Geelong fan isn't over 2008. Great logic that.

Had to laugh too when reading the Hawks board after the game a fortnight ago when someone suggested that the Hawks put the cue in the rack at three quarter time because they knew they had our measure and they felt they could take us should we meet in September. Funny, but I thought they'd want to prove that we weren't getting inside their heads by going on and burying us. They like thinking that they have our measure in finals. However, when you look at the last 7 times we've played them, more often than not we've been able to absorb their best and still come out on top. We weren't able to do that in 2008, and because Hawthorn haven't been good enough to hang around long enough in September to face us, we're unable to tell whether our H&A form against them since will be able to stand up against them in September. Hopefully we get to prove it this year, because that's probably the only way we'll get to shut them up.

You just know that we met them in a PF/SF/QF and won they would say we still couldn't beat them when it "counts".
Apparently the only games that "count" against Hawthorn are the ones they win!

I think pies fans are no worse than essendon or carlton fans at the game (Please, someone explain "Ball" and "prior opportunity". (I.E. When our players break a tackle and handballs, that is not holding the ball.), but I think hawks supporters are by far worse when they get behind a computer and onto herald sun online.

Or next time they bring up 2008 we bring up 1963?
