The Arrogance is really starting to grind my gears

Or next time they bring up 2008 we bring up 1963?

Honestly Im ready to give up on every football related board except this one; it just gets dumber and dumber out there, and I'm finding myself sinking to that level unfortunately. Hence why I get a little pissy when the trolls are let loose here. Its a shame really because I like to talk/learn more about footy than just the Cats.

This is true, but having supporters continuesly comming out and saying "We are only in second gear" and "We expected to be 7-4 or 8-3 at this stage because it's been planned all along to peak at round 16 +" with "No one will get near us in september, yes we are that good and better than Geelong ever were" thrown in for good measure, it gets very annoying after a while.

I personally think Geelong are travelling better at the moment. We have has tough hard wins against very good opposition. Have they?? Winning tough close games makes you better for finals.

It shits me to tears when they say "we are only in second gear". You can't just flick a switch when the finals come around. Teams don't have gears anyway, it's the intensity and pressure that opposition teams apply and don't apply. When a team comes out and plays 2 quaters of high pressure high intensity football and the game is close, and all of a sudden that drops off in the third, then a good team will see that drop off and go in for the kill. It's not a "super gear".

Lets see if Collingwood can get out of "second gear" against a team that applys pressure for 4 quarters. A team like Geelong...

What was the name of that idiodic Collingwood poster that was on our board posting on the Cats Pies pre game thread last year?
You know, the one that would break down every sentance you wrote and reply individually to it?

Anyhoo, that was a point I was trying to make to them.
All of 09 and a great chunk of 2010 it looked like we played in "second gear" as opposed to playing our best - and look what happened then!!
I think its a load of BS talking about "gears" to be honest.
Look at us in 07 and 08 - The cats were on it and there wasnt any "gear" but full steam ahead and we demolished teams week in week out.
But in 09/10 it seemed to drop off and resulted in us just scraping through for another flag and then dropping right off(compared to our best) the next year.

Point is, Collingwood are not anywhere near their form last year, and if they are stupid enough to flirt with form and only play in "second gear" it will definately cost them come finals time when the real stuff starts.
That I highly doubt though because Malthouse isnt a stupid man by any stretch!!

But I think the real picture is that they arent as good as what they were last year and it has Pies supporters shitting themselves at the prospect that they may have been wrong in thinking they already had the premiership won in march.

Time will tell, but I can see a lot of similarities in Collingwoods form this year to ours in 09/10 - only they dont have a grand final loss or tight game wins to pull them over the line when it counts.....

Only thing that really annoys me is the lack acknowledgement that is happening because Collingwood have have come good.

We are still continuing the greatest H&A run in VFL/AFL history and have won 2 Premierships and been in 3 GF in 4 and a bit seasons.

But all the talk is about Collingwood. Yes they deserve a fair bit of attention but given our run we should really be overshadowing Collingwood in the press more than we are.

It is like our run and style of play is not of as much consequence as the Pies at present.

Bigger picture guys and if were able to win this year's GF - that would suddenly undo all Collingwood's last 2 seasons of hype - and then maybe more people would realise just what a great job the GFC has done and IS still doing.

At what point do the other AFL clubs like us say that enough is enough? We are all to blame for chasing the dollars that an MCG "home" game against Collingwood brings, but I suspect it's somewhat of a self-fulfilled prophecy. Collingwood rightly argue that they are the most "popular" club but if you're on TV and in the press and playing blockbusters as often as they are over a number of years of course you are!
They will always be a well supported club and good on 'em, but it's getting to the point of ridiculousness with the favourable draw scenario. Again....not Collingwood's fault, before all the Magpie lurkers leap in.
I suspect that if Collingwood win the flag this year, questions will be raised.

wouldn't bother worrying about it mate.............we're talking about the AFL who handed & guaranteed the Brisbane Lions an era of success on a platter plate and again done so for the Gold Coast Suns. If money is the number 1 priority then Collingwood will forever have the most favourable draw in the league.

True. Personally I don't lose a lot of sleep over it. I'm more concerned with the other clubs virtually perpetuating the "Collingwood are the biggest club" mythology and by default helping it to be true. Beat them in the finals this year and we could play it on Mars for all I care.
