somewhat on topic - meeting a mate in the city to watch the Friday night game - any suggestions on where would be good for a drink and a beer with a big screen? somewhere walking distance of trains

Planning on having an Oktober Fest event at my place; basically the plan is to get the Mrs to make giant pretzels and I'm going to make bratwurst. And then somewhere amongst that I'm going to drink German beers until I black out.

So far have got these tasty treats from Mane:

And 5 out if the 10 or so Weihenstephaner varieties - hoping to find some Festbier and a few others. A trip to what used to be The International Beer Shop in Leederville likely on the cards for some obscure Kraut beers.

Man that Rothaus pils is outrageously tasty. Might have to have a gander at the other ones

Of all the ones I bought the dude was very bullish about that one.
Last year mane had those 5 litre mini kegs of it at xmas time. I went through two before they sold out. Honestly one of the best pilsners I've ever had. Apparently the importer doesn't bring them in anymore though.... sad times

All this Pilsner talk had me feeling randy. Picked this up today and it’s ****ing crazy good! I mean at the end of the day it’s still a Pilsner, just has a mean hoppy bitterness to it. I’m all about it. I kinda look at the beer I drink these days and feel like I’m coming full circle or gone completely back to my hay days. Instead of going for big ass 8/9/10% hazy IPAs anymore, I’m finding myself grabbing 5% pales or decent lagers or shit like that and grabbing more than one to properly enjoy it. I guess I just love piss (and pussys)

I've tried but I can't find the article - think I posted it in the Homebrew thread - but it's about changing of a person's taste in beer styles and how most start with European lagers then move to pale ales, then get a bit more adventurous with the range of IPAs, then heavier beers including stouts and then sours. But in the end it goes full circle and though you still enjoy all those other styles you settle back on lagers. For me apart from the shitty commercial stuff I initially got serious about beers with German and Belgian stuff and after a few years of trying as much craft variety as possible I've been back at ze Germans for about 6 months. I still like the other stuff on occasion but it's getting a bit saturated and boring and I just want something smooth and easy.

Yeah that resonates with me hard! I still enjoy a hazy ipa but **** me man, every hazy ipa is starting to mould into one. It makes me appreciate a real good lager so much more. Cold weather, I’ll still enjoy a stout, but **** me gimme 7 lagers in a row and I’ll enjoy that a lot more

Last time I went to Dan Murphy's to buy a bottle legit felt overwhelmed with the ridiculous selection available these days, this will take the decision out of it and have it delivered too.

The Old Young’s one, or a different one?
