my best 22

F: Byrnes/Podsiadly/Johnson
HF: Chapman/Mooney/Rooke
C: Corey/Ling/Bartel
R: Ottens/Ablett/Selwood
HB: Enright/Taylor/Mackie
B: J.Hunt/Scarlett/Milburn
INT: Hawkins/Kelly/Wojcinski/Stokes

Very Very Unlucky

Lonergan: We dont need him as a third tall come finals time because it makes us to top heavy when milburn and mackie can also play taller than they are.

Blake: Is a good tap ruckman but offers absolutely nothing else has improved this year but it was either him or Hawkins and Hawkins offers more around the ground and can also play forward and maybe even fill a hole in defence all stuff Blake cannot do ATM.

Varcoe: It was between him and Stokes and i think Stokes is a slightly better over head mark. I really couldnt choose between these two.

If max rooke doesnt get back in time we will just slot varcoe into his spot. God i hope Rooke gets back because he is our X factor and hard man.

I agree on Blake although it's dependent on how fit Ottens and Hawkins are.

Lonergan on form deserves a gig ahead of Mackie...I'd only drop him if we were playing against a really quick forward line.

Varcoe for me is safe, and Byrnes and Stokes are fighting for the one spot. I'm not sure which I'd prefer.

I am firmly in the Tom Lonergan corner. He and Taylor are forming a formidable pairing and i think the tactic of allowing Scarlett freedom is going to pay off in the long run. Lonners is a classical backman who plays in front and has a great ability to spoil against the big men....really really confident in him and considering our main opposition - St Kilda, Hawthorn, and Collingwood he is vital in being able to take a big forward. A certain starter.

I think Stokes is showing that he is rediscovering his 07' promise, but i like Byrnes in the side purely for his pace (which was prominent in the final quarter of the 09' granny). So probably Stokes will be unlikey to keep his place...

Can't leave out Wojack, he is having a cracker of a season.

Blake is just too valuable in being able to ruck out a whole game, so you would have to say that Hawkins won't be able to get the gig in the ruck, which leaves him in a battle with Pods and Mooney. I am sure we will rest Pods soon and see hows Hawkins form is....maybe Mooney might find himself unlucky?

I would say that injuries will probably dictate our final 22, but either way it is a fantastic problem to have.

Personally I would think about leaving Hawk out, while he is our future, a fit and firing Pods (once we've freshened him up for the finals) just offers so much more to us and will be so critical in winning a final I believe.

Having said this, I know Bomber loves Hawk so if Pods gets rested this week and Hawk plays well in the one's I fully expect Pods to find it hard to get back in.

Stokes and Byrnes I also reckon are battling for a spot, and while Stoker has played well this year, I could still see Byrnes getting the spot.

I'm not a Blake lover by any means, but can admit he's been great and should probably keep his spot.

On form yes, because Hawk and Pods have played as well as, if not better than him across the year. But he won't be dropped, Bomber's not going to send someone into retirement that way. That's why I said Pods, Hawk and Blake are playing ring a ringa rosey, and the way Lonners is playing he'll probably stay, which means one of Hawk, Blake or Pods has to miss out IMO.

I still think Mackie should be vulnerable unless he plays a good month from here, but he'll stay.

I think Hawkins needs to be in our best 22....if fit!

Don't think we can play both Mooney and Pods as our main targets as they can both loose the work rate at times. Hawkins second efforts are paramount to our best footy - especially without Rooke in the forward 50. Very very difficult....but i think Hawkins when fit and in form certainly needs to be in the 22. Could just be that Mooney makes way....

Very confusing

Have to disagree. Varcoe is probably in our top 10 most important players, and certainly the most important one we need to sign up for the future. He is a CERTAIN starter. Stokes or Byrnes is the tricky one. And Varcoe is a better OH mark than Stokes-Stokes sometimes is just too vertically challenged

Blake is always fit, always available, dependable, and deserves a top 22 spot. And he is contributing.

Lonergan has improved a lot this year, and will be rewarded for his efforts.

Solution- I don't have one. Just going on GF form is unfair as these guys have all matured. But Max was quiet in 07, poor in 08, and huge in 09.
Varcoe missed 07, poor 08, and useful in 09. His form this year far exceeds anything he did in those years though.
Lonergan-missed 07, poor 08, missed 09. Seems like he is our tall floating 3rd back== Tom Harley.
Byrnes-OK 07, missed 08 & we needed him, good 09. Has speed in finals like Varcoe and Wojo that we need.
Stokes-Good 07, pathetic 08, missed 09 and sadly is my pick to miss .
Hawkins-missed 07, 08, good 09, if FIT is a must.
Pods-great at Geelong, but can he offer anything at MCG against good defences.

Anyway, we still have to play Dogs and Pies who are likely GF candidates along with us and Saints, and these 2 games may tell us what we need to know
